THE HELPER

Thanks to something I saw on Christina Rhode's Blog, I visited The Enneagram Institute's website and took an enneagram test. Here's how I scored:

Enneagram

What does all this mean. Well, apparently I'm the caring, interpersonal type. I'm considered empathetic, sincere, and warm-hearted. I am also labeled as friendly, generous, and self-sacrificing, but can also be sentimental, flattering, and people-pleasing. As a "Type 2" I am also cast as being well-meaning and driven to be close to others, but can slip into doing things for others in order to be needed. I also learned that I typically have problems with possessiveness and with acknowledging my own needs. At my best, the Enneagram Institute says I am unselfish and altruistic, and that I have unconditional love for others.

While I generally loathe tests like these (because of the gross generalizations that are often applied as a result), I happen to like this one. Click on the above image to see what the Enneagram has to say about you.

You seem to be the Mother Theresa! I am somehow a combination of Martin Luther King, Jr and Marge Simpson, lol

You knew this about me...but here you go...Type Seven: The Enthusiast; The busy, productive type. Sevens are extroverted, optimistic, versatile, and spontaneous. Playful, high-spirited, and practical, they can also misapply their many talents, becoming over-extended, scattered, and undisciplined.

I'm a 7, followed closely by 2, 3 and 4. Some of the questions were hard to decide (am I focused and intense or spontaneous and fun-loving? I prefer to consider myself intensely spontaneous and focused on loving fun.) while others were so clear-cut they were laughable (like I have usuallly been shy about showing my abilities or liked to let people know what I can do well -- that one didn't even take a split-second of thought.)

I can't imagine the complex scoring mechanism they've got for this. My former employer (Mikal's current employer) used to give everyone a more complicated personality test -- some people swore by it and that always bothered me a bit.

P.S. I also love that they don't tell us what we are at our worst. Nevermind my personality when I'm in a good mood -- what happens when I'm cranky?

(Mikal, feature suggestion: the ability to edit posts for the feeble-minded who forget to include everything in their first posting.)

Looks like I am a type 5 followed by 1 then tie for 6 and 9. Mikal, I only got 1 question under the Type 2. Explains a lot doncha think?

The Enneagram site offers a compatibility assessment! http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/matrix.asp

Beth, I was intrigued by your writing and you're a fellow 7. I've been attracted to and dated women for equally trivial reasons. Most notably, Becky Schultz...that nose was unforgettably cute.

I love that you added a PS; thus shoring up your 7 rating: the high-spirited part of you rushed into adding your words to this community and then the practical part offered a solution (possible or not) to the problem you encountered. How wonderful...and kinda cute.

As for entertaining offers...my offering would be plenty entertaining, ask Belicove.

As for spouses...I don't have any either, so are you suggesing that my personality type explains the lack of a spouse?

I know that's the Bernie Mac defense, "What, you don't know Nato? (Head of State reference)", but I'm sticking to it.

PS: The Comment posting applet does provide a Preview feature, it's the middle button.

I have no doubt of your entertainment value, even before Mikal said a thing.

I blame my postscript on the jetlag -- at the time I posted, I was seven hours ahead and had had five hours of sleep in the previous 36 or so. Normally, I don't have such a good defense for getting my cart before my horse or shooting my mouth off, so I'm taking full advantage of it this time around.

And, by the by, I did preview, but that's completely different from needing to edit something after the fact. My entire life would be on perpetual preview if I couldn't go back to fix my mistakes.

Jet lag is a good story. How's it working for you?

;} A little inside humor for FC and Mikal.
