ZIPLOC VERSES VELCRO

So I got to thinking... between the two technologies (for lack of a better word), which has had a more profound impact, Velcro or the Ziploc bag?

Truth be known, I'm a big fan of the Ziploc bag. Just the other day, while at the grocery store, I found myself expressly choosing products just because they were packaged in the Ziploc format. At the same time I've gone eight straight years using Velcro on a daily basis (it keeps a watch on my right wrist). If pressed to move forward in life with only one of the two, I think I'd choose the Ziploc bag.

You?

Ooh, that's a tough one. But I think I'd choose Velcro, only because there are situations where it's almost irreplaceable. But if Ziploc bags didn't exist, we'd still be able to manage -- remember twist-ties?

This from the woman who owns Ziploc bags in virtually every size -- tiny snack to giant 2.5 gallon! So, I think we can rest assured that Ziploc will never die. :)

Beth brings up a good point... I totally spaced on the whole "twisty-tie" thing. Nowadays, the only time I ever see the twisty-tie is when I pick up my dry cleaning. The dry cleaner uses them to keep the hangars together. And, now that I think of it, at the grocery store -- when I buy fresh produce -- I always tie off the bag. I don't even think to look for the twisty-tie. Thanks, Beth. No more tying off for me... I'm going back to the twisty-tie, for my produce, that is. Or, I suppose I could always bring my recycled ziploc bags and use those instead. Oh my, all the options and choices.

Velcro all the way! After all, I was able to put on my tennis shoes faster when I was a kid. Saved time for more play.

While I agree with Christina -- that when I was a kid, Velcro tennis shoes were all the rage -- the trend seemed to last only a few years. Velcro became very un-hip very quickly, if I remember correctly.

Hip or no hip...you're on crack if you think that ZipLoc (R) is the technology to keep, of the two. Velcro has far better uses. From watches worn on the wrong arm, in your case, to sport cuffs for those nights when you need to securely fasten someone to your bed quickly, and comfortably. Velcro is the way to go. Always fast, never slow. Velcro closes my windflap and keeps me warm from snow. Mr ZipLoc boy, you may think you're in the know. But...no...no...no, you're mind must be slow. Do you remember the velcro tab that kept your pants out of your chain? What about the velcro on umbrellas, which keep us dry from rain? Vecro is a magnificient invention of the brain. So jump now, onto the the Velcro train. Come on ride this train, and ride it, who, who.

I will also vote for velcro, for the simple reason that velcro is popular all over the world, while Ziploc is nonexistent in the Asian countries like China and India. Most of us here in India have never heard of Ziploc, let alone using it, while Velcro (at least the concept, if not the brand) is everywhere. So Velcro has a greater global reach.

Yep...I don't remember Ziploc in Germany. Of course, Germans aren't big on storage in the first place.

I'm willing to go out on a limb and get shot by Mikal.

Mikal, is this part of the American anti-France movement?

I'm assuming that you are aware that a french inventor is responsible for dreaming up velcro. If not, you should take a look at 'hitchhikers', those little green buggers you get from hiking (remember hiking???), because those things are what gave the dude the 'hook-and-loop' idea.

Now, it is probable that you were not aware of the origins of velcro, but ignorance of the law is no excuse when committing crimes, and ignorance of invention is no excuse when blogging...Yes, Mikal, I've thrown down the gloves on the velcro issue. Put down your stick, cause we gonna roll.

Matty... be careful... I may have to take away your French whips and French chains!
