GUEST BLOGGER (LEE MCD): - REMEMBER THE 80'S?
I have grown nostalgic for the 80ís as I watch ìI Love the 80ísî on VH1. Itís a year-by-year chronicle of events, personalities, trends, fashion, and music of the decade of greed. Each segment, which focuses on a single year, has a ìMr. & Ms.î feature narrated by Andrew Dice Clay, and a ìMake-Out Songsî section given by Lionel Richie. Seeing Pac-Man, soap opera queens, the GoGosí raunchy home video, and early cell phones makes me long for the roaring high times of my adolescence. I became a teenager in 1983 and lived in a small rural town in Missouri. All this big-city and other stuff seemed both very cool and very weird.
Wow! What a difference a decade or two can make. Watching snippets of the hedonistic era of Wall Street, Reaganism, and all manners of excess is a fun and a decent way to spend half an hour. Plus, it has that funky 80ís electronic voice in the title theme song. It seems like episodes are on all the time, so check it out and itíll probably jog some dormant memories and stories just dying to be shared for a laugh or two. Like, OK? Wax on. Wax off. Greed is good. Itís so popular that a 70ís version is planned for August. What do you think?

I remember BIG mall bangs! I had Tiffany hair...eek!
I was too young to participate in the 80's, but I remember that Reagan was my hero, before I knew any better. I also know that 80's New Wave music is arguably the best dance music EVER! I truly miss my college days when I would attend New Wave night weekly. I miss dancing all night to Erasure, Bowie, Flock of Seagulls, The Cure, Peter Schilling, Bronski Beat...obviously this list goes on. I just wish I could find a New Wave night in Denver...ugh, the good 'ol college days (mid & late 90's).
How about the shoulder pad diet? Big shoulder pads made your butt look smaller! Man, I miss that one.
Leigh, did they make my butt look smaller??? And, how did you know that I had a big ass?
Matt, from your previous posting, I was under the impression that you were in diapers in the '80s. The padding, therefore, would have been a bit further south than the shoulders. Otherwise, I haven't had the pleasure of sizing up your posterior!
I was out of diapers by 1980, as I was born in 1977. However, I do have a large ass. Thanks for explaining the diaper reference, cause I was getting self conscious.
You are a man of your time, then, Matt, since big booties are fashionable in whatever the heck we are calling this decade. Just wait 'til VH-1 has an "I Love the 00s": they won't pass you by.
Isnt every decade the decade of Greed ?
80's was the decade of greed.
90's were the decade of greed.
00's looks like another decade of greed...
