FOUR FOR FRIDAY

What was your favorite childhood toy?

My favorite childhood toy was the handheld Blip. I whined and moaned for almost a three months before my mom broke down and bought me one. To this day itís still my most favorite childhood toy.

What's your favorite line to quote from a movie?

From the 1987 hit movie, The Princess Bride:

Miracle Max: Have fun stormin' da castle!
Valerie: Think it'll work?
Miracle Max: It would take a miracle.

If you were invisible, where would you go and what would you do?

Like many people, I would hop on a plane to Washington D.C., make my way into the White House, and follow the President around for a little while to see what really goes on in the day of a life of a world leader. Iíd also do stuff to help children who canít help themselves and are intentionally suffering at the hands of others.

Have you ever purchased something from a TV infomercial or from a spam e-mail message?

Letís seeÖ there was that buckwheat-pellet pillow that I bought back in 1997 (bad moveÖ I think it withstood my tossing and turning for something like a week before rupturing what looked rabbit pellets all over my bedroom), and then there was that set of video tapes that purported to teach me 101 of the best magic tricks ever (needless to say, I canít perform magic to save my own life), and that of course was preceded by that crappy Home Shopping Network stereo that broke three weeks later and that I was too lazy and poor at the time (probably from paying way too much for the stupid thing in the first place) to pay for it to be shipped back to HSN to be repaired (it ended up in storage for five years before I gave it to a friend who said he could fix anything).

1. My favorite toy was probably doll house furniture, dominoes and chessmen. I would use the dominoes to create the walls and layout of the house, fill it with dollhouse furniture and use the chessmen as people and play for hours. I was constantly remodeling and perfecting the house.
2. "We aren't in Kansas anymore." I don't know if that is a correct quote, but I like to use it when things aren't as they should be. I don't actually quote movies... can't remember the lines.
3. There might be a lot of places I might like to go, but it wouldn't work for me. I would ruin it by talking. I guess I would want to be somewhere watching someone creating something that I wouldn't be allowed to watch. Maybe an artist of some sort, but I would probably move someone aside so I could get a closer look or ask a question and then... that blows my cover!!
4. NO, hate those things. Especially the carpet guy with the annoying voice. I just know they are going to syndicate him to email.

Q1: LEGO'S and string/tape/pop-cicle sticks

Q2: I try to consciously avoid quoting movies, but, invariably, it creeps in.

Q3: Deep inside the Chinese government, to see and hear what is really going on. I might also just sit in a park and watch human nature.

Q4: Never have, but I love that Miracle Knife. I always cut stone in my kitchen!!

1. My Lite-Brite and Etch-a-Sketch

2. "The new phone books are here! The new phone books are here!... My name in print! Things are gonna start happening to me now." Steven Martin, The Jerk

Also pretty much any other line from that movie. I can be kind of obnoxious about it.

3. I would stand inside the Oval Office and watch George string paper clips together.

4. Nope, but I was tempted by the George Foreman grill, which I got as soon as it appeared at Sears. I wait till its available in stores.

1. A red Lincoln toy metal car with a white top. Nothing special about it, but it was my favorite.
2. "I realize that . . . now." Lt. Frank Dreben, The Naked Gun. Or just about any other line from that series. And because I quote a LOT of lines from a LOT of movies, any of these: "the red pill or the blue pill" The Matrix; any of Hannibal Lecter's lines - the census taker, Starling's cheap shoes & good bag, all the way to the FBI; clean animals - pigs - Pulp Fiction. Also, from Tales from the City, A. Maupin - Mona's line: "I approve of everything."
3. If I could go back in time, I'd find out who, finally & really, killed JFK or what really happened on JFK, Jr.'s final flight.
4. No.

1."Easy Bake Oven" Nobody ate the stuff I fixed!(the beginning of the GREAT chief I am today(LMAO) It was fun to try to get my
brothers to "Taste Test". Looking back... I am amazed we all did not die that winter after Christmas. I mean really how good can food be cooked under a light bulb from a package of freeze dried: "What is that"!
2."I will have what she is having" and change the "She" to a "He".
3.To "unmentionables"
4.Are you kiddin' me?

Posted by: Sallie at October 17, 2003 11:40 AM

1. A green dragon that my mom made with a jig saw that was suspended from our 14 ft. ceilings with springs that we would climb a ladder to get to and ride like a horse.

2. "Inconceivable" - Princess Bride

3. If I were invisible, I would follow G. W. around and pull his pants down during his next speech to the UN Security Council.

4. Yes, I bought 3 episodes of the Muppet Show for $8.99 - I couldn't pass up that once in a lifetime opportunity!

Oh, my! Poor George! It's a good thing we can't be invisible. He wouldn't even have a private moment in the bathroom! Welcome to motherhood, George!!!

1) 2 items - when I was really young, I had a plush toy Snoopy. He was my favorite toy for many years, faithfully serving as someone to interchangably hug, punch, throw, use as a pillow, and verbally and physically animate as only a 4 yr. old can. Also, I had a "Bucky the Wonder Horse" - The plastic horse suspended by springs that you could actually ride and rock back and forth. I would put on my Chaps and my Pistoleros and my hat, and ride for hours. Eventually I also got a real log cabin fort, from which I Dispatched legions of Indiginous humans. I'm a lot nicer these days, for sure.

2)"Surely you can't be serious!"
"I am serious - And Don't Call me Shirley. . ."

-another Naked Gun line uttered by Leslie Nielsen's character Frank.

3)Everywhere. I'd camp out in the Oval Office to find out the truth. I'd go to the sets of my favorite TV Shows to see behind the scenes. I'd visit the lockerrooms of all my favorite teams. I'd see all the movies for free. Then when the novelty wore off, and it wasn't cool anymore, I'd use my powers to Visualize Whirled Peas, eradicate poverty and disease, and make a positive contribution to society.

4) Yes - Here's a Hint - "Hey man, is that Freedom Rock??? Well Turn it up!!!"
