FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q: If when you got to work today, someone told you that you and all of your co-workers had been given a mandatory day off, what would you do with your day?

Q: The Super Bowl will be on CBS this coming Sunday afternoon/evening. Which are you most looking forward toÖ the game itself, the half-time show, the commercials, or back-to-back episodes of Queer Eye For The Straight Guy on NBC?

Q: Do you plan to participate in any sort of competitive events this year, e.g., foot race (5K, 10K, Half-Marathon, etc.), cooking contest, tennis tournament, softball or volleyball league, competitive choir, writing contest, art contest, etc.?

Q: If you could be any animal on earth for 24 hours, which animal do you think youíd choose to be?

Comments:

1. Itíd be great to just hangout with a co-worker/friendÖ hit the gym first, grab some lunch, catch a movie, and grab some hot chocolate afterwards. Iíd be perfectly happy just doing that.

2. This yearís game holds little interest for me. The Coltís and Broncoís are out of the running, so Iíll be tuning in mostly for the commercials.

3. Iím planning on running a 5K race (yes, I said ërunningí), walking two half-marathons, and competing in two tennis tournaments. I'd also like to see my blog compete for some awards in design, content, and readership, but I'm not into doing that whole self-nomination thing... so if anyone else (hint, hint, wink, wink) hears of a contest that they like to enter this blog into, go for it :-)

4. Tough one, but I think Iíd be a Cheetah. Cheetahs move so gracefully AND fast. Iíd just run around all day chasing Gazelles (but I wouldn't actually catch any).

1.) Mikals day off sounds very nice, I would be happy doing that too, except I would have said "hot chocolate with marshmallows!"

2.) The Coltís are out, so I wonít be watching this year. I will probably go shopping for some new gym clothes on Sunday instead.

3.) I am competing in a weight loss challenge as of last week. If I can reach my set goal, I may enter a fitness contest in the fall.

4.) A puppy, everyone loves puppies. I would spend my 24 hours, just hanging out, snuggled up in the lap of someone who loves me.

1. Had one this week and I finished a quilt called "Chasing away the winter blahs! Probably sewing and watching movies on TV while drinking faux coffee.
2. My son TJ, who lives in Charlotte, is going to the Superbowl, so I will probably scour the crowds for his face. *Right! That will happen.* I am looking forward to the commercials.
3. Nothing competititive at the moment. Maybe some artsy type stuff.
4. I would love to be an Eagle or Falcon. Flying and soaring protected through the sky.

1. I would probably go to a movie or out to lunch with a friend, and then do some shopping. Or hang out with my nieces.

2. I never watch the Super Bowl.

3. Right now I don't have anything planned. I'm not a competitive person, but if something interesting came up, I'd do it.

4. An eagle. I'd love to be able to just get up and fly wherever I wanted to go.

1. I would go to the DMV to pay for the transfer of my tags from my old truck to my new truck. I would then head over to the condo to do a walkthrough to position my outlets for cable and my network. Then I would clean my room, which has become a completely disorganized mess. After cleaning my room, I'd move on to the rest of the apartment.

2. I most looking forward to finding out whether or not CBS does the right thing by allowing the "Bush in 30 Seconds" ad from MoveOn.Org.

3. No

4. That's really tough...so I'm going to split it up. If I could fly, I'd be a peregrin falcon. If I were based underwater, I'd be a bottlenose dolphin. If I had to be land-based, I'd be a cheetah.

1. Easy. Cross-country skiing. We've got great weather for it right now, and I'm not likely to get another chance this year. I'd drag a reluctant friend out of her cozy office, bundle up, and hit the Eagle Creek ski trails for a few hours. Then I'd drive over to Panera for a bowl of hot black bean soup and finish up with a movie and a cup of coffee.
2. Not planning on any TV watching this Sunday at all. Too much to do!
3. I think I might do a couple of 5-10Ks this summer. Maybe I'll follow Mikal's example and train to run a 5K.
4. Definitely some kind of bird-- probably an eagle.

1. I would be completely and decadently lazy because I cannot be that way on the weekends and it's cold. I would do yoga, then take a nap then watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
2. What's the Superbowl?
3. Yes. The Mini-Marathon in May, and the Eagle Creek Sprint Distance triathlon in June. Ugh.
4. One of my cats, because they are spoiled and have a fun life of catnip, tuna, playing and sleeping.

A#1. I'd hit the gym, have a fruit smoothly with a coworker, then go for a trail run... finished off by a good book at the coffee house.

A#2. Completely agree with Matt Holzmann on the hope of seeing the "Bush in 30 seconds" ad.

A#3. Ran the St. Louis Marathon in the fall. Next fall, September 2004, I'm running/walking in the Gobi March... a 150 mile race across the Gobi Desert in northern China, southern Mongolia.

A#4: Snow Leopard!

1) I'd go have a nice cigar and take a nap.

2) For the game, followed by the commercials in a close second.

3) No.. but maybe I should!

4) Hmmm... An Eagle.

1. Wow, after I took a 2 month leave of absence last June, I have not gone back to my corporate job. I have been working on my mind, body and spirit. I would do things that do those things.
2. Being in Houston; I feel guilty for not being interested. If the weather is nice, I will be at Brazos Bend State Park (45 minutes from H-town) watching migrating birds or going to see Big Fish.
3. Way to go Mikal..tennis tournaments. Well, I am thinking of trying out some mini tri-athlons (sp) I have to learn to spell it first! I am taking classes and would like the highest grade in each..is that a competition?
4. I would be a Cheetah; but, since Mikal chose that one, then, I would rather be whatever pet Jennifer Lopez has.

1. I would like to say that I would go to a museum or an art gallery. But I would most likely end up working around the house, doing all the chores that I put off.

2. I will be curled up in front of the woodstove reading a book.

3. I would like to go to Provincetown Ma. to the annual GLBT Poetry Contest if they are having it this spring, but I am afraid that my poems are not that good.

4. An eagle to soar above the earth and look at life from a different perspective.

Posted by: Diana at January 30, 2004 7:39 PM

1. Sleep in.

2. I don't watch TV so this Sunday will just be the usual.

3. Maybe a writing contest, if I find one that I take a liking to.

4. Preferably one that won't get killed by another animal in 10 minutes.

Posted by: sya at January 31, 2004 1:44 PM

1. Schedule 2 blocks of high-end personal therapy, have a quick lunch and a massage, followed by dinner out with some friends.
2. Tough choices for Sunday. Toss-up between the game & the commercials. However, my New England Patriots are vying to make it 2 championships in 3 years. Go Pats! I have 3 superbowl parties to go to, plus, I'll probably tape Queer Eye. What they should do is a Queer Eye makeover as part of the pre-game & half-time activities.
3. Croquet tournament at the McDaniel family reunion.
4. Any pre-historic animal such as a dinosaur, so modern science could examine & study me.

Posted by: Lee McDaniel at January 31, 2004 6:37 PM

1. I would go for a walk, then eat, sleep, get up and geek around. Since it's Friday I would get ready for an interesting night out.

2. A good night's sleep....

3. Hopefully a few 10ks and maybe a half-marathon.

4. Of course it has to be a bird...one that can soar, that is agile and strong, an eagle !
