FOUR FOR FRIDAY
Q: Earlier this week the University of Colorado placed its head football coach, Gary Barnett, on paid administrative leave for comments he made to reporters about the school's first and only female football player (who just so happens to have alleged that while she was enrolled at the school and playing for the team, she was raped by another team member): "It was obvious Katie was not very good. She was awful," Barnett said. "Katie was not only a girl, she was terrible. OK? There's no other way to say it." Despite what you do or do not know about the wide array of accusations regarding CU football team members, do you feel Barnett's comments warranted his being placed on administrative leave?
Q: Which of the following do you think would have had a bigger impact on society had it NOT happened: The assassination of President Kennedy or the birth of Bill Gates?
Q: If you were offered a spot on the reality TV show your choice, would you accept? If so, which show would you choose to be on?
Q: What household chore do you dislike the most?

1. Actually, I have been following the UC story for quite awhile because I am so opposed to "anything goes for the athlete." I'm not sure it was just the comments that have gotten him put on leave. He's not very bright to make comments such as he has with his program under the close scrutiny it has been. I think it was probably the "last straw." I suppose I agree with it because I think the program is a mess and sends a bad message about the university.
2. The assassination of President Kennedy. In technology there is always someone else waiting in the wings.
3. I hate reality shows, so I would have to say I would choose Trading Spaces. I know, it's not a reality show... but, it's real people, real houses... I hate the others, and I'm too old for American Idol, but I can sing "She bangs" better than that little guy that is singing it everywhere now.
4. I hate household chores. There is a reason it is called chores.
1. I suppose I'm not surprised, but it does sound like a messy situation.
2. The Kennedy assassination, for the same reason as the poster above.
3. No.
4. Cleaning the bathroom.
1. I don't know the whole story... only read the headlines and looked at the pictures. My thoughts are: Educators should be above the language their students use. If the man insulted(especially in public)that woman(or any student) he should be reprimanded and cinctured. All educators are examples for their students. If he should be allowed to do what ever, then students will follow. We have enough hate in this world as it is. Poor mouthed educators should be dumped. I.U. kept Knight on way to long for my bubbling over blood.
2. Gates was in the right place at the right time and had good PR and other brains around him. He still does, he is alive and kicking. JFK is not. The world definitely would be different today if he had lived. I am not sure which direction we would be going. The Cuban Missile Crisis was a bummer, Marilyn was and the USSR was poised and ready to take him on. Interesting to ponder, but we will never know; except it would be different.
3. I don't watch much TV. But a show like the bachalorette... where I could have 20-30 men to choice from and go on exotic dates...that sounds uhhh awesome. (hint-hint) ;-)
4. Clean Da-Toilets! Boys will be boys!
1. Absolutely. Not only that, he should not be on Paid administrative leave. I worked as an assistant to the football team in college and these allegations are not surprising to me at all. There is an encouraged, accepted atmosphere of sexual harassment in the testerone-driven, all male world of college football. Not once did these guys ever speak of women in a respectful, equitable manner. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been if I had been a player, threatening their secure "we're doing something women still can't do" world.
2. Birth of bill gates. The guy was a visionary. My daily life would be affected much more by his absence than by the continued life of jfk.
3. Never. I am fascinated by certain reality shows but would never allow myself to be exploited by them.
4. Putting away my husband's clothes. I will happily do the washing, folding, hanging, and sorting into neat piles on the bed just waiting to be put into the right spot. But putting it all away makes me feel like the magical "laundry fairy", or worse, like a maid or his mother.
1) Yes, he should have been placed on leave. The coach is responsible for his team and should always be supportive of each members needs. After all, he wouldn't have a job without the team. Whether or not she was raped, the coach should do his damn best to protect her and to get all the facts. As he should if something happened to one of the guys on the team. Yeah, and maybe if more girls were "allowed" to play on the football team, they'd be better players. That coach needs to apologize to her and the rest of team for being such a chauvinist.
2) The Kennedy assassination. Who knows what he could have done in following years; he may have even been re-elected. I think there would have been another "Bill Gates".
3) I most definitely would NOT be on a reality show; I like my privacy too much. (I know it sounds cheesy, but I'd do "The Bachelorette" if it wasn't televised...imagine, 25 men all for me)! *daydreaming, sorry*
4) My least favorite household chore is cleaning the shower/tub/sink/toilet. Otherwise, I don't mind cleaning.
1 - He slanders one of his own players, who was possibly the victim of a crime committed by another of his players, he does this to the national press, and he gets a paid vacation during the off-season? Where is the punishment?
2 - Bill Gates was one of several people doing roughly the same type of research and is getting the credit for lots of other people's work. The best thing that happened for Kennedy's political career was probably his assasination. The Cuban Missile Crisis was a direct result of the Bay of Pigs, he was escalating the Vietnam War (against the advice of his predecessor, ironically), and he did very little in the direction of Civil Rights for African American or women, let alone any other minority status group. This is a stupid question. History seldom hinges on a single person...at least not on these two.
3 - Go on one? No. Now, ask if I would edit one.
4 - Pick only one? Laundry. It wins only due to the constant quest for quarters.
Since Barnett was answering the question,"What did the players think of Katie?" when he said she couldn't kick, I don't think it was an inappropriate answer. Instead of putting him on leave, I think they should give him a press secretary, though. Mary Keenan has littered the airwaves with charges of rape when she never brought charges against specific people.
Birth of Gates
No!
Putting dishes away.
