FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q: Do you have a regular routine for surfing the web... in other words, do you visit certain sites everyday at around the same time (like during lunch if you eat at your desk, or in the morning before you leave for work)? If so, what's your routine... which sites do you visit, and in what order?

Q: These days it seems that more and more scholarship athletes are leaving college early for the professional ranks. Do you think athletes who leave school early should be required to pay back the money that their college or university spent on them?

Q: Do you plan on seeing the new Mel Gibson-directed film, The Passion of the Christ?

Q: Do you have a car of your dreams? If so, what's your dream car?

1. Typically, I check email first (including the NY Times), see who's online, then check personal & corporate banking, belicove.com (yes, it's true), my yahoo group, the Providence Journal, the Joplin Globe, and then any links that have been forwarded.

2. I don't think any scholarship should have to be repaid. I think individuals should be good stewards of their monies (and fortunes) and should remember those who've helped them along the way. That's why I continue to give to my alma mater.

3. Yes I will see the movie. I do so because I want to make informed decisions and because it deals with the last 12 hours of the historical Jesus, upon whom my liberal Protestant Christianity is based. As someone with a degree in Religious Studies, I will follow the story line for accuracy and for composite treatments, particularly with an eye toward any unfair depictions of Jews or others.

4. Not really motivated by cars. I have always like the 700 BMW series, though.

1. I typically start off the morning at work browsing email while enjoying a diet coke. I'll check my "My Way" page, which has news, weather, Pet of the Day, Horoscope, etc. Then, I'll visit belicove.com, maybe ebay, yahoo, just varies day-by-day.

At night, after working out, I'll logon to pay bills, check news, browse a little.

2.Here's a thought... what if we treated scholarships like Company's treat tuition-reimubursement. Take the classes, get good grades, get reimbursed.

3. I'm planning on seeing this film, in fact lots of friends have wanted me to go with various groups. But I really think I want to see this one by myself.

4. I love my new Corolla!! So, for now, I guess it's my dream car.

1. Get into the office, fill up my water bottle with filtered tap water, read work and personal e-mail, surf to my friends' blogs (including Belicove.com, of course), skim Salon for interesting stories, and finish up at the indystar.com. I usually end up on CNN.com or nytimes.com at least twice during the work day because of articles I've been forwarded by colleagues or friends.

2. Hadn't thought about it before, but I love Lori's suggestion. I would alter it slightly, though. Wouldn't make them pay for their classes in advance, but keeping a scholarship would be contingent on maintaining a B average.

3. I do plan on seeing this movie, but I'm uncomfortable with the thought of seeing it in the theater, potentially surrounded by religious zealots. I will probably wait until it comes out on video.

4. Yellow Jaguar. Do they still come in yellow? The old ones did.

1) I usually surf during work. After I get here and settle in I check my work and personal email. Read my horoscope (for fun) and then read the news. After that I read a bunch of blogs, saving the best for last :o) And I usually surf throughout the day, since my job is so boring and I have a lot of free time.

2) No, I don't think they should pay back the money. It's a risk the school takes when they choose the person for the scholarship. But, if that student goes on to make big bucks in a professional league, then it would be a nice gesture to donate some money to the university or set up another scholarship for other athletes.

3) Yes. I want to see what all the fuss is about. Every year at the Passion (Palm) Sunday Mass, The Passion is read aloud to the congregation. It will be interesting to see how Mel Gibson interprets it, and if it will change the way I picture it in my mind when it's being read to me.

4) No, I don't have the car of my dreams. But if I did it would probably be a Porche Boxter or 911 Carrera, or a BMW.

4. Do you have a car of your dreams?

Yes! It gets great mileage (8 miles to the banana) and has several magical properties: Wherever I go, a free parking spot is waiting for me. I shed fat and bond with my community when I use it. It skips to the front of every traffic jam. It also outperforms all other vehicles in the winter, passing SUVs and snowplows with ease, and annual costs (fuel, insurance, maintenance, loan payments) come to about $150. Best of all, if I hit someone or roll over, nobody dies! How I love my car^^^bicycle!

1. I checkout the beliblog first thing every morning after I workout. Then I take a look at my daily horoscope for laughs, while I eat my breakfast!

2. I donít believe so. The few kids who are talented enough to go pro early, are just using college as a springboard into the pros in the first place and everyone knows it. The University recruiters, coaches, and athletic directors all know the risks involved going in if they want a star athlete on their team.

3. Yes. This weekend I will be seeing it with my mother. All of the hype (both positive and negative) has turned me off completely though, so itís pretty much a have-to-see situation now, because mom says so. :)

4. No dream cars. Just happy if I have something safe, to get from point A to point B in.

1. I generally read e-mail, late breaking news, my favorite blogs first thing in the morning. Once I get to work, I keep updated on the news and keep updated on work emails. At night I usually post to my blog and surf a little more.
2. No, and it is too much to wish that something of the big money makers would remember their universities.
3. Yes, I just am not a big one for blood and violence. I may have to wait until I can view it at home and put it on pause when I need to.
4. Cars don't mean that much to me. As long as it runs well. I do like mine... Passat station wagon... comfortable, drives well, runs well and has plenty of storage room.

1. I check my personal e-mail, "Blogline Links"(BeliBlog Linked of coarse), Yahoo mail, News Links:Star, MSNBC, BBC, MyWay News, Google News and News Groups. I work on line so I surf regularly.
2. No Comment... don't know.
3. I have seen it.
4. Z3 Roadster in Green :)

1. Yes, when I'm not traveling or out of the country, I'm a regular web surfer for all things newsy, outdoorsy, intellectual. I do make an effort everyday to visit Belicove.com

2. Being a practioner in academics, I believe academia is here for a singular purpose: to challenge us intellectually. The additional life experiences one garners along the way is just a bonus. Scholarship athletes singular focus on being there to play a sport doesn't add to the fabric of intellectualism. If they truly want to be at a college, the athletics need to play a secondary role. The idea of an athletic scholarship tends to be the catching point here. By the college offering an athletic scholarship, they make the statement to the student that they are valuable as an athletic asset, and not an intellectual asset. Once again, FOCUS on the singular mission of academia: challenge the intellect (thereby allowing for individual growth) in ways that reach and find the passions of the students. Certain athletic programming levels are not compatible with this vision of academia. Should the student be obligated to pay back scholarship money...absolutely not. The intention was to provide opportunity to the student with no contractual obligations.

3. Saw the movie tonight...absolutely wonderfully done! Since I'm Catholic, have an academic background in religious studies and theology, and an interest in the depiction of The Christ to all, I watched intently to try to analyze the historical portrayl. However, that was difficult given the intense emotional energy required throughout those 2 hours. I do want to add that I saw no hint of anti-semetic scene's, dialogue, or actions. What I did see was the tremendous tolerance Christ had for his persecution and open acceptance of his sacrifice for us all, no matter what religion or lack thereof. The brutality was depicted accurately given the times, which were especially brutal and well documented throughout that period of the history of Christianity.

4. hmmm...not really. Guess I would like a morphic, futuristic, AWD, recycled, pollution-free, do-everything fast, utility vehicle...with leather seats and fuzzy dice!

1. I don't have a set time that I surf but generally I check my e-mail and the status of my own blog first. Then I read the blogs, in alphabetical order. And then I read the New York Times.

2. No, because then it'll be very easy for people to say you have to repay academic (or any other kind) scholarships too.

3. No, but that's not because of my beliefs (or lack thereof). I just don't see very many movies these days.

4. Earlier this week I dreamed of a green car. What make or model, I couldn't tell, but I was using it to run away from a giant blob.

1. Yes, when I get into work in the morning while I have my coffee and danish, I checkout the international and national newspaper headlines ( Google News, New York Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, The Globe and Mail, London Times and The Guardian) . Then I check out the tech news ( Wired News, Cnet and Slashdot ). When I get home at night I checkout my e-mail accounts and surf some of the blogs that I follow, like yours. Lastly, I may update online diary if I have anything to add.
2. No, they should not have to pay back the scholarship money. While they were there the school made a lot of money off of them.
3. Nope. I think it is way over hyped.
4. I all ready have it, a Toyota Prius.
