JOSH BERNSTEIN GOES DIGGING FOR THE TRUTH!

Watch out Indiana Jones... a recent e-mail message from Josh Bernstein proudly announced that he'd been chosen to host a new History Channel show called Digging for the Truth, in which archeological experts take a fresh look at the world's greatest ancient mysteries. Shot in High Definition, Josh and camera crew will travel to some of the most intriguing, remote, and physically challenging locations in the world--including Central America, South America, Egypt, West Africa, the Middle East, parts of Europe, and the Far East--and with the help of select archeological experts, will attempt to solve some of the greatest puzzles from the past.

But just who is this modern day archeologist, and why am I writing about him? Well, first off, Josh is not really an archeologist, but he did study anthropology at Cornell, and he does own an adventure-based traditional living skills school/adventure travel company called the Boulder Outdoor Survival School (BOSS). And chances are that if you knew me while I lived in Boulder from 1993-2002, you also knew, or had at least heard of, the venerable Bernstein.

For the uninitiated, Josh and I met back in 1994 while I was working for the Association for Experiential Education (AEE). At first, Josh was just another eager voice on the other end of the telephone. Like so many other recent college graduates, Josh was Boulder-bound, and he'd called the AEE office ahead of time in search of information about outdoor and experiential education employment opportunities in the local area. A few weeks later, when he left the hustle and bustle of New York City and arrived in Boulder, I was the first person he sought out. The rest, as they say, is history... Josh went on to convince the then owner of BOSS to hire him on spec as the Schoolís director of marketing and administration--a move which paid off big for BOSS because Josh was able to significantly increase the program's exposure and enrollment--and soon thereafter, when AEE had foolishly passed on an opportunity to purchase The Outdoor Network for pennies on the dollar, at my suggestion Josh stepped up to the plate and bought the company from it's founding publishers, Mike Moniz and David Secunda, and later sold the company to me so he could focus his efforts exclusively on BOSS.

For years now, those of us who know Josh have stood by with a certain sense of awe as he garnered media hit upon media hit for both BOSS and himself. I myself even speculated here on the Beli-Blog last August that Josh seemed destined to host some sort of adventure-based reality television show, and from the looks of things, I wasnít that far off. As far as BOSS is concerned, Josh writes that heís not leaving the company, per se. Heíll remain president & CEO, and plans to be as involved as his travels allow, but for now, a chap named Jeff Sanders will be taking over operations at the BOSS base camp in Boulder, Utah.

Josh Bernstein's display of archaeology "like it's never been experienced before" is set to premier in late-2004/early-2005 on The History Channel.

I know Josh has been seeking something like this for some time now. Kudos to Josh for creating his dream job/TV gig!

How old is he? He seems so young to have the job that he has.

Josh Bernstein is either 33- or 34-years-old, I think.

I just watched Digging for the Truth and I have to say Josh immediately caught my attention. Not just his stunning good looks, but how well he presents himself & what an amazing presence he has in front of the camera - like he has been doing this his whole life. I noticed no ring, ladies, and he is about 4.5 years older than I - so, yes about 33. Striking resemblance to Matthew Fox ("Party of 5" & "Lost") HOT!

Posted by: Melissa at March 19, 2005 11:29 PM

Me and my mom love this show! We both think he is great, and we definitely watch every show!!!

Posted by: Grace at March 22, 2005 11:34 PM

I caught the show for the first time today and immediately I was hooked! I had to look up anything else I could find about Josh. I was really amazed to find out he's a double major in anthropolgy and psychology as well as owns his own survival expedition company. Nothing is hotter than a fine man who's intelligent also.

Posted by: Mary at August 13, 2005 4:20 PM

as someone who studies history, I was subtly surpise to discover that Josh did not have any formal history education. you can tell he's very comfortable discussing the issues at hand.

and besides, he so beautiful to look at, i bet if he was dumb as a brick no one would notice. but we all know that the History Channel wouldn't let someone incompitant to host such an interesting show.

Posted by: Laura Sol at August 21, 2005 10:28 PM

Please know he came from money, get some clues people. He has lived in Boulder for some time, and has dated one person that I know. And he likes his image! He is nice though.

I guess He is twice as nice to look at, he has a twin brother.

The show? It is all scripted information & he is a good business man.

Posted by: SuzyQ at September 21, 2005 12:13 PM

I have heard that he can be a bit stand offish. Hopefully not true. I would hate to have my ideal, although unattainble, man have any kind of bad image. Just curiously, what is his "type"?
As for intelligence, he seems to have quite a bit. Nothing more exciting that an intelligent, attractive man.
As for living in Boulder, what one? (I promise I'm not a stalker or anything, just curious about everything.)
In a nutshell, he makes tv interesting!!! About time something good was on to watch.

Josh makes Diggin' for the Truth intersting in the amount of time that he has to talk about a subject. He also very cute. I wouldn't mind spending a day talking to him about some of his adventures. I bet he has alot of.

Posted by: at November 16, 2005 9:25 PM

It is ever so obvious that Josh comes from money. Nonetheless, he seems very down to earth and comfortable with himself. I mean, he has a man purse, perfectly tanned feet for when he wears sandels and day-old growth, always of the perfect scruffiness. He seems perfect and girls, I hear that he is not gay, go figure, he is perfect for the you gals 33 and under ! Yea, who wouldn't want to have dinner and conversation with him.

Posted by: at December 1, 2005 1:31 AM

After watching the program and reading these comments about "Digging For the Truth" (subtitle: "Hot Guy Presents History Lite"), I can only wonder how much of the program's very questionable "history" will be accepted as fact.

I'd be a lot more comfortable with their scripts if they'd include a few more words like "if", "possibly", "theory", "maybe", "alleged", and so on. While I realize Josh is not a credentialed scientist, including a few more of these "wiggle-words" can only add to the program's credibility.

Posted by: at January 11, 2006 9:19 AM

History is one of my Biggest Passions...
...
History Channel is one of my Fave Channels and definitely Josh Bernstein is a Hottie....

Whoever who stays with that guy must be very happy....There's nothing more interesting to be with a Guy who has the honor to know so many things and visit so many places of this world..

Josh is a great guy. I have one question based on what I am reading here: Why do people have to comment on Josh's looks or his orientation? Grow up already! He is happy and doing just fine without a particular woman or man in his life. He is a busy guy and does not have time for a partner. And as far as his orientation is concerned, straights and gays would be unhappy with the truth anyway so get over it! Josh is Josh and he can't be defined. He is one of the most evolved dudes I have ever come across.

Peace

And what exactly IS "the truth" about Josh? Your post seems to imply that you have some sort of knowledge that the rest of us don't.

Posted by: at January 22, 2006 4:56 PM

i thinks he's a cutie. lol i also think that its hard to come across a guy who not only has the looks but the brains. lol after watching his show, for about an hour i was seriously thinking about trying to get my own show! ahhh i love watching his show.... i think that he would get with a girl who is just as intelligent. a person will attract the same kind of person. i mean like if you were smart you wouldnt like to talk to a stupid person! well anyway who ever gets to go out with him is lucky! i wouldnt mind meeting him!

Posted by: Erika at January 22, 2006 9:28 PM

I really don't care about Josh's orientation...the show itself is very interesting, and the travel all over the world doing amazing things! But I won't lie, he is really, REALLY good-looking. And isn't that why we all loved Indiana Jones? He kicked butt digging through temples of doom, speaking fluently in many languages and looking HOT while he did it.

Posted by: Jay at January 23, 2006 8:32 PM

Ok so he's a looker. That's why I tuned in one manic monday. I also have started school recently, so now I tune in for information. Maybe the producers want that. Maybe Josh even want's us to tune in for that reason. I dont know exactly, but I sure as hell wouldnt tune in if Tom Arnold was hosting.

Posted by: Bec at January 25, 2006 6:34 PM

I'm sure I speak for many women- could he be any hotter? And not just his looks. I would give just about anything to date him. Who knows what his type is but, I wish I was his.Yum

It is about time that the History Channel had a show that was not about war! During the past few years most of their programs were about WWII, etc... Now, finally, here is a new show (Digging for the Truth) that I won't miss! I do not like historical programs dealing with war. I definitely enjoy historical programs that dig for the truth!!!!

HELP!!! I'm trying to find pics of Josh to print does anyone know any good sites?

Try www.wireimage.com; www.filmmagic.com or gettyimages.

Posted by: Nina at March 15, 2006 4:31 AM

I enjoy watching Josh Bernstein. He reminds me of my son who at 37 bears a close resemlence to Josh...tall, engaging smile, dark hair, dark eyes and swarthy skin from the sun.

Keep up the good work Josh. Your programs are intelligent and well articulated and informative.

Posted by: bdragona at April 5, 2006 9:06 PM

Can you say EYE CANDY?? I had to LOL at the post from the person that said they wouldn't watch if it was Tom Arnold hosting. Here here. The show is great, but Josh is H*O*T, which is a HUGE incentive to watch! ha ha
Geez, I haven't seen such a looker since, well, Indiana Jones (H. Ford) HA!

Posted by: Avaley at April 6, 2006 7:17 PM

I caught a few reruns of the show one day, I don't exactly remember when, and the first thing I noticed was that he has a very nice voice, he's clear and catches your attention. I sat through two episodes and really got into it, but I couldn't decide how much I actually liked Josh. I mean he's good looking and seems to know what he's talking about, but since it's the highest rated show on the History Channel ever, I figured he was just a gimic to get people to watch. When I read that he was an anthro/psych double major and CEO of BOSS totally fell head over heels in love. I love it when real people do what they love to do, I probably wouldn't watch the show every monday if he were a fake.

I give major props to him for being able to do what he loves. I'm majoring in anthropology and he's doing so many things that I would love to do. Yeah, I'm jealous, but I'm not bitter about it. He's obviously worked really hard to get where he is.

I've been a fan of Josh Bernstein and the show since season one, and I look forward to seeing both of them each and every week.
Josh IS very handsome, but what grabs me is that he is very articulate, intelligent, funny, charming and human.
By human, I mean that he is unafraid of trying new things, making mistakes, and admitting that he doesn't know something and taking it all in stride.
Most hosts of shows, would demand that mistakes or admitted lack of knowledge be edited out so that they can look perfect for their audiance. All they succeed in doing is looking fake. Something Josh will never be. Fake.
What is perfect about Josh is that he, like us, is imperfect and he's not afraid to show it.
That is what makes watching Digging For The Truth such a fun watch. I've learned so much.
Keep up the excellent work, Josh. Here's looking forward to many, many more years of Digging For The Truth.
Keep on realizing the dream!

hi , my grandson who is age 10 has wanted to be an archiologist since he was 5 or 6 years of age, and still does. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help him along in this field, because he would like to get started NOW, is there any way I can get him in a program somewhere to give him a head start on his wanting career?

Posted by: mary L at April 24, 2006 1:18 PM

I know Josh. He is human, flawed, has his foibles like the rest of us. The image is carefully scripted and edited - just like it is for every other "entertainer".

He does not treat dates well - and at 35 has never had a serious and/or long-term romantic relationship. Can't edit that!

Posted by: at May 4, 2006 10:49 PM

The guy's got the best job on the planet. What makes it worse the program probably has the support of academia because of his professional approach to the tasks at hand. I think he really does get to the truth. I hate him.

Posted by: Murray Bishop at May 16, 2006 6:18 PM

Great show.

Posted by: at May 22, 2006 11:00 PM

The show is great man. Informative. In response to some of the previous comments about his looks and orientation...

I'm a guy and yeah, he's a $exy guy, but at least he's not doing the constant crotch shots and endless shirtless episodes. I know most ladies will beg to differ (so do my gay male friends), but Josh is cool and has an informative program. Dig???

Posted by: at May 22, 2006 11:07 PM

I loved josh for his looks, but his looks alone is not going to keep people like me watching week after week. The show itself is accessible enough to attract different spectum of people, with is the point of the show and the reason for its popularity. As for the way josh treats his date, he is not here to defence himself and Frankly none of our business anyway.

Posted by: at May 31, 2006 11:22 PM

Hi Josh. Your a very intellegent archeologist. Your show is very intresting. I hope I can be as good an archeologist as you some day. Achieve all your dreams.

Well, I think that Josh is a wonderful man. I don't care how old he is. I am 34. Maybe he just hasn't found the right woman for him. Many of us women could apply for the job, but only one would prevail. Yes he is attractive. Yes I would love to be his date for the evening. Maybe we would go see a play in New York, or just catch a movie here at home. I am sure he has had problems with women and his looks all his life. Maybe he just wants some quiet love, not associated with his looks, money, fame, etc. Josh if you read this..........Find her, whoever she is, when you are ready not when everyone else wants you too. Do your thing baby those of us who favor education will watch your show when we get the chance and the lustfull ones will reschedule their lives just to watch you on T.V. Keep up the good work darlin'.....Kria

Posted by: Alex at June 26, 2006 12:19 AM

It's funny...I searched for history.com/josh to find more info about the show, and yes he is a presentable and handsome man, but many of these comments put a giggle in my belly. I can't help but think how much of what each show discusses is actually retained. What if our sight was hindered or the host not so romantically rugged? Example: There used to be a show on PBS called "Connections" hosted by a grey/white-haired gentleman named James Burke.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Burke_(science_historian)
Attractive? not in the typical sense. His passion, knowledge, vivacity and care for the information did however make him extremely attractive. In ending - I too find Josh to be quite handsom, but I'm more interested in the history of how humanity got where we are today, which by the way could use some help.

I enjoy the show, but I find Josh's speaking style like fingernails on a chalkboard, and it's because he speaks every single sentence with the exact same cadence. It's so monotonous, I'm surprised none of his peeps have advised him to speak with a more natural effect.
