FOUR FOR FRIDAY (ONE DAY EARLY)

NOTE: I'll be unavailable Friday, without access to my computer or the Internet... so, since I don't have anything in particular to post for today (Thursday), I'm posting this weekís Four For Friday one day early. Feel free to wait till tomorrow to answer, or not :-) In any event, enjoy the rest of your week -- Mikal.

Q: Would you rather receive free gasoline for your car for one year, or free meals for a year at your favorite restaurant?

Q: Do you think it's hypocritical for SUV drivers to display environmentally-focused bumper stickers on their vehicles?

Q: If you could be any cartoon character for a day or two, which one would you be, and why?

Q: For how long can you hold your breath? Not sure; that's okay... give it try, right now!

1. Free gasoline. Too much of one restaurant would make it not my favorite anymore.
2. Speaking as a former SUV owner, some people have to drive them. With a 6'11" husband and 3 boys 6'4", 6'5" and 6'8" and one daughter, also tall, we didn't have a lot of choice. We had to have a big vehicle. As an empty nester I drive a Passat.
3. Mickey Mouse or the Road Runner. Mickey Mouse because he can fly. The Road Runner... I love his spirit.. do you notice there aren't any really great female characters. Oh, maybe Betty Boop... boop boop e doop!
4. Don't know, don't care.. don't want to start the day with a headache.
Have a great weekend, Mikal.

Q1. Free gasoline. It costs $35 to fill my Jeep, I have to fill-up on average every 5 days, so free gas for a year would save me $2,555.00... assuming my calculations are correct.

Q2. Bumper stickers are tacky on any vehicle, despite the cause.

Q3. I would be Kim Possible. She fights crime, saves the world, and still looks good in her cheerleading outfit.

Q4. 45 seconds.

1. I'd go for the free gasoline. That would save me some cash, that I could put towards buying a condo. If I ate at my favorite restaurante everyday, I imagine I'd get tired of it after a while, and would gain many lbs.

2. No, because it isn't very nice to judge people. It might make me chuckle, but who knows, maybe it's their second car that they only use when going camping or carpooling.

3. Pepe Le Pew. He is one happy skunk. No matter how many times people mock him, tease him, or run from him, it never gets him down....and he can sing really well too :-)

4. I'm not sure how long, but I'm guessing about a minute. Of course, any time a movie has a scene where someone is struggling to survive while holding their breath, I immediately hold mine to see if this situation is realistic! (Yeah I know.. how wierd is THAT!)

1. Definitely free gas for a year. Especially since it's gotten so expensive these last few months and with my commute, I could use some free gas.

2. I've had this discussion with a friend of mine, and I still think driving an SUV uses MORE gasoline than my Honda. Of course, the person driving the SUV may be environmentally conscious and conserve in other ways, and that's great, but they're still using an automobile that consumes a lot of gas. Not only are they consuming more gas, they also have to spend more to fill up the tank each week. And yes, we all pollute the air when we drive our cars, unless you have an low emissions vehicle, but in this day and age a car is necessary in for most people.

3. I'd be Daphne from "Scooby-Doo" because who woouldn't want to solve mysteries wearing a mini-skirt and go-go boots? Plus, I'd get to hang out with Shaggy. He's a cool dude.

4. I have no idea. Not gonna try it. :o)

1. Free gas. I don't like eating out at restaurants.

2. Yes, but then I think that displaying an environmentally-focused bumper sticker on any car is hypocritical.

3. I'm not sure. This probably makes me sound like a dud, but I don't want to be a cartoon character.

4. 1 minute. Is this normal?

1. I'd take the free gasoline. My favorite restaurant is a Ben & Jerry's scoop shop, which would only spell trouble for me!

2. I do not feel it's hypocritical. Missy said it best... "...the person driving the SUV may be environmentally conscious and conserve in other ways..."

3. Road Runner. Like Cindra said, he's got great spirit, and that speed is just way to crazy of a tool to pass on.

4. I once held my breath for One Minute and 10 Seconds. Just now, when I tried again, I lasted 28 seconds. I must be getting old!

1 - Free gas

2 - Hell, yes...and they are even more pathetic when they try to rationalize it. Vans have more interior space, and station wagons haul as much groceries and children, and both are subject to the environmental laws that SUVs escape. An SUV is about status.

3 - Bugs Bunny

4 - Who cares?

Posted by: Bluestocking at May 21, 2004 9:35 AM

1) Meals. I'm clinging to the hope that fuel prices will drop a bit ... within a YEAR. ??

2) Silly maybe but not hypocritical... after all the plate does donate something to an environmental cause right?

3) Hmmm... Bugs Bunny. He's the Gregory Peck of the cartoon world. :)

4) Depends... if my life depended on it I could hold my breath for the rest of my life. ;)

1. Being in real estate which means a LOT of driving...I would take free Gas.
2. I think the bumper sticker is kind of funny actually. We do have an SUV...we also have a sedan. The way I look at it, if you want to point the finger at SUV drivers...then you better as hell be living in Amish country with no electricity and only an outhouse, riding a horse for transportation, making your own cotton for your own clothes, and growing your own food....(I can keep going on) Because everything in modern day technologies basically destroys the environment in some shape or form. Besides my little tyrant...there are functional reasons why some people have an SUV...horses pulling a buggy full of items just doesn't get to destinations quite fast enough.
3. Betty Boop - Ms. Sex Kitten herself! However, I wouldn't be against being one of the Wonder Twins..or Wonder Woman
4. I can hold my breath for approx. 1-2 minutes. Just depends on how relaxed I am.

1. I fill up my SUV about once a week so eating out every day makes more financial sense to me. Besides, it could lead to something big... just ask Jared Fogel of Subway who did just that.

2. Although I think bumper stickers are silly and I don't have any on my car, I do get a chuckle out of them on other cars. One peeve of mine is the folks that can't seem to put the stickers on straight. As for the hypocrisy, I say big deal. Everyone is hypocritical about something or another.

3. Krusty the Clown.

4. Just tried it and got to 45 seconds. I'm either too old or too slack to go any longer.

1. free sushi anyday, no question!
2. well it is more annoying for the bigass suvs to park in all of the parking places marked COMPACT!
3. Daria, please do I have to explain!
4. about one minute. that's enough time to be with oxygen!

1. Free meals. I drive about 12,000 miles per year. At 20 mpg (I do a little better than that, but I don't feel like reaching for a calculator) that's 600 gallons, a whopping 1200 dollars per year. It didn't say how often we get to eat at our favorite restaurant, but only one meal a week would cost almost that much. Interesting note: if the price of gas had kept up with inflation since 1950, it would now be $2.80 per gallon.

2. As someone else said, unless you're walking everywhere, the hypocrisy is just a matter of degree. I still won't drive 'em though - they don't hold much more stuff than my Subaru, they drive like a truck, they get lousy mileage, and they cost a lot. What's to like?

3. Well, Spiderman was my childhood hero of choice, so I guess I'll stay loyal to him.

4. There are lots of things I'm not holding my breath for, and this question is one of them!
