DO FISH EAT BREAD?
The other day I overheard a young child ask one of her parents, "Do fish eat bread?" And while I didn't quite catch the answer, nor did I get to see what the parents looked like or thought of the Phish song that was playing on someone's distant radio, had they been asked that question today they might have answered, "Not after this summer, sweetie; no!"
Phish, the popular four-man band that played around with countless musical genres, and whose throngs of fans made them a modern day version of the Grateful Dead, announced yesterday that it's breaking up. The group's leader, Trey Anastasio, made the announcement on the band's website, just weeks before Phish is scheduled to releases its new, and I would imagine final, album.
According to numerous reports in the media this morning, the quartet is still planning on starting its Summer 2004 Tour on June 17th in New York City, and ending with a two-day festival, August 14th and 15th, in Coventry, Vermont. While I myself am not a huge Phish fan, I am particularly fond of one of their songs... Heavy Things, from the Farmhouse album. How about any of you... anyone else got a favorite Phish song or memory?

Yes Virginia, fish do eat bread. Actually, if you roll a mixture of bread and Cornflakes into tiny balls, it works really well as bait for freshwater fish... no squirmy worms necessary. I donít know anything about Phish.
Divided Sky is probably my favorite Phish Song. In close second would be You Enjoy Myself. My heart was broken when they made that announcement yesterday. I knew they couldn't continue on forever. Just sad to hear it is over now. I do have tix to both nights at Deer Creek. And with the announcement last night I purchased tix to the festival in Coventry Vermont! Very excited to get to see the last shows.
Good. I hated that band. A bunch of weirdos strung out on drugs. The sad thing about it is once they all realize that aren't that good they come back together to make a reunion tour to feed themselves.
My fish (named Barbie) enjoys a delicious course of fish pellets and flakes every morning. She recently had baby fish, and the two surviving babies enjoy fish flakes. Not sure if they'd like bread.
That's all I have to say about Fish or Phish.
:-)
I'm sure you figured I'd chime in on this one Belicove. I love this band and the many memories I have of traveling to over 90 shows between 94-present. I have plans to see the shows at Deer Creek, IN (my favorite venue of all time for Phish shows) and Alpine Valley. This will be my last run on "tour" 4 shows and way to many miles to count and a few more experiences that I will cherish for a long time.
Now to memories...some are a little clouded, but my Tee Shirt business was fun, OBEY MAKISUPA! 'The Great Went and Lemon Wheel' were fun. Lastly, I'll never forget New Years 1998, NYC and the Mad Scientist.
Favorite Tunes...Heart Break Hotel (oldie), Makisupa Policman, Ghost, and Haloween 97 Dark Side of the Moon!
Thanks Phish...
