FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q: What's your favorite bagel, muffin, and/or doughnut (we're talking flavor and/or brand)?

Q: The much-anticipated environmental drama, The Day After Tomorrow, opens today in movie theaters nationwide. According to media accounts, the movie takes a special-effects-filled look at what the world would look like if the greenhouse effect and global warming continued at such levels that they resulted in worldwide catastrophe and disaster, including multiple hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, tidal waves, floods, and the beginning of the next ice age. Do you think that in our lifetime we'll be witness to the sorts of major environmental catastrophes such as the ones depicted in this movie?

Q: Birthday and holiday greeting cards; hand-written letters from friends and loved ones... we've all received them. What do you do with these sorts of things once you've finished reading them... toss them or keep them?

Q: Have you ever used a fire extinguisher? If so, what were the circumstances? If not, do you know how to use one?

Comments:

1. I like the "Everything" bagel from Moe's in Boulder; the Boston Creme Pie muffin from My Favorite Muffin in Indianapolis (as well as the Coffee Cake muffin from Dunkin' Donuts); and a Chocolate Frosted doughnut from just about anywhere!

2. While I know that we'll continue to experience each of these weather-related phenomena on a seasonal and seismographical basis, I do not think we'll see the types of widespread natural disasters that are portrayed in the movies at any point during our lifetime.

3. I have held onto every single card and letter I've received ever since going off to college, and I don't think I'll be able to throw any of them away, ever (and it's not like I go back and reread them on a regular basis either). There's just something special about a card or a handwritten letter.

4. Thankfully, I have never had to use a fire extinguisher. If I had to, I'm pretty sure I could... you just pull the pin and squeeze the trigger while aiming at the bottom of the flame, right??

Raisin cinnamon bagels with lots of cream cheese and then take two Lipitor.

I think that the change will be gradual, more virulent storms. We will see wider temperature swing and especially if the Gulf Stream changes. But, nothing like whatís in the movie.

I keep them in my filing cabinet. Itís more of a habit, it something that my mother always did. When she passed away a couple of years ago, while we were going through her things we found all the old cards that we gave her. It was nice for all of us to be sitting there going through them and remembering when we gave her a particular card.

Yes a car fire at work. A pick-up truck carburetor, those are the things that were used before fuel injectors ;-) caught fire. The jerk came out afterwards madder heck complaining that we ruined the paint with all the yellow powder that was on it, of course the fire blistered the paint on the hood anyway.
We just shrugged and walked away.

1. Thomas' New York Style Bagels, The "Everything" variety is my favorite. Having lived out east for a time, nothing beats their bagels and breads. A number of years ago, there was man on Rangeline Road in Carmel IN that would make homemade donuts. They were to die for. Every Saturday we would drive to get them. It was a tradition sadly missed.
2. NO I do not think that in our lifetime we'll be witness to the sorts of major environmental catastrophes such as the ones depicted in that movie. I think we have to tend to the environment but the movie is a bit over done {from what I have read} and "a movie"!
3. I keep most of them. I am a pack rat and have boxes upon boxes of mementos.
4. Never used one of those devises. There was a time I should have had one. I set my kitchen on fire with a coffee pot and the fire department had to come. It was a mess, fine plastic black soot everywhere. The whole apartment complex quickly leaned who I was. My face was very red! :-)

Q1. I donít much care for bagels or muffins. But I love donuts, chocolate covered with nuts on top, lots of nuts!

Q2. I donít think weíll ever see this in our lifetime, but I am looking forward to the seeing the special effects in the movie.

Q3. I still have my very first. "do you like me, circle yes or no, note" from 1st grade. So yes, I keep all of my cards and letters, and some of the prettier, more special cards I have framed on my wall.

Q4. Fortunately Iíve never had to use one. But I think I could follow the instructions in case of an emergency.

1. Sesame, egg, poppyseed bagels. Corn muffins--hot from the oven. Glazed doughnuts from Dunkin Donuts.

2. I don't really like watching disaster movies. It kind of freaks me out and then I worry that it will actually happen. I hope we don't live to experience any of the disasters mentioned. It's bad enough that it's been raining for a week, I couldn't handle a flood.

3. I keep all letters/notes I receive. I must admit, I do have a box or two in my parent's attic full of old letters and correspondence, even old bills. I just have a hard time throwing stuff out. But to my credit, I did get rid of a lot earlier this year when I was in a cleaning frenzy.

4. Thankfully, I have never had the need to use a fire extinguisher, nor have I ever been in a situation where one was needed. I'm not sure I even know how to use one, eventhough I have one under my sink. Good reminder.

1. My favorite bagel shop is Einstein Bros. I like a toasted wheat bagel with peanut butter (when I'm trying to be good with calories) or a heated blueberry muffin (if I'm not concerned about calories). Add their bottomless cup of Diet Coke and a good book and I'm set for a while.

2. These movies do give me a good scare. They prompt me to ask all kinds of questions about their feasibility. From what I've learned, and what I believe, I don't think we'll be seeing these types of events in our life times.

3. I have love letters from high school and college stashed away, and I tend to save certain cards or other notes that are special to me. I also save the vases that come with flower bouquets. However, I don't save EVERY card.

4. I'm thankful to say, I've never had to use a fire extinguisher. I have a couple in my apartmenet, and I know where they are if needed.

1. My favorite Bagel is Einstein's four cheese with Veggie Cream cheese! My favorite muffin is from a muffin bakery back home in L.A. It was a crumb cake muffin. Favorite donut? Wenchel's donuts (in L.A.) made the best donut holes with white glaze and sprinkles. I used to go at 4:00 a.m. to get them...fresh from the oven. However, there is a GREAT donut shop here in Indy on Keystone and 54th street by Subway. They have great cinnamon twists.

2. I hate these over-produced movies. We already know everything runs in cycles. It may or may not happen in my lifetime... depending on how long my lifetime is.

3. I still have my first love letter from 2nd grade. I keep special notes and cards from family and close friends or just funny things I have received. Every once in a while I will go through them as a good laugh.

4. Yes I have used a fire extinguisher a couple of times... however, it wasn't to put out a fire.

1. Blueberry muffins.

2. Disaster movies are usually way off base.

3. I keep everything.

4. I have a fire extinguisher next to my lab bench. And yes, I know how to use it.

Krispy Kreme anythings.

I think it's more likely we'll be seeing the acceptance of more green ogres who will be bold enough to make themselves known to the world. The message, "It's ok to be fat and ugly if you have some personality" will likely take hold on the planet. My theory is based on the fact that people are leaving "Day After Tomorrow" alone and the box office and flocking to "Shrek". Wide based agreement leads to reality. I would rather have my kids dream of a Shrek future than a DAT future.

Keep the ones with good images. Toss the others.

Never used one. I did learn how but then forgot.
