FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1: Have you ever marched in a parade? If so, what was the cause/reason/banner/float you marched under?

Q2: Have you ever had to wear a uniform for a job? If so, what was the job, and how did you feel about the uniform?

Q3: What's your favorite way to enjoy music... Live, at a concert; In the comfort of your own home, on MTV; While driving, listening to your car's radio; While exercising, on an MP3 player or CD player/Walkman; or, At home, on your own stereo?

Q4: If you were to trade your current license plate in for a vanity plate, what letters or word(s) would you choose for your new plate?

1. I was in a summer parade back in high school. I rode in a convertible with a group of highschool girls. We were "batgirls" for the baseball team.
2. The only uniform I ever remember having to wear was a candy striper uniform when I voluteered at the hospital. I was very proud of it and I loved the big deep pockets in the uniform.
3. I don't think I have a favorite way. Each one is favorite at the moment. Least favorite is in the rain or with bugs or mosquitos.
4. I hate our license plates... they are plastic. I would lean toward education plates. I don't care what it says... I just want dimension instead of flat.

Q1: Yes. My dance troop was forced to march in the Lions Club parade every year for four years in our little cheesy, sequenced, dance outfits. I was also in a fall festival pet parade with my bulldog puppy two years ago.

Q2: No, I have been pretty fortunate, Iíve never had to wear a uniform. I would not be happy about it if I did though. I wear my gym clothes to work every day, so in a way, I guess this is my uniform. I have had jobs, where Iíve had to wear a name tag, does that count? :)

Q3: My MP3 player when I am by myself, this way I can listen to specific songs Iíve programmed in depending on my mood. I also enjoy listening to live bands outdoors in small group situations. Large concerts not so much...too many people.

1. I have been in several parades. In Girl Scouts, my troop would decorate a float each year for the Rose Parade. One year I got to be on the float...it was a huge Gorilla. I was also in Drum Corp and marched for Valley Regiment and then later Velvet Knights. We marched in the DCI finals in several states. Also being in the military, one marches in several parades as I was Color Guard.

2.Ugh... yes! I worked at a grocery store and had to wear an ugly uniform (Ralph's Supermarket), then a GCC Movie Theater where you always smell like popcorn. Then I managed a Valet company near LAX Airport..once again a uniform. Lastly... a Veterinarian technition..so I had to wear scrubs. At least they felt like pajama's!

3.Music preference is in a Club such as the Crobar in Chicago or Miami! Otherwise, I enjoy listening in my car with it really loud.

4.VALIGRL... I would have it now, but BMV is outragious in their costs. I used to have the Breast Cancer plate until recently. I will probably renew that next year.

1. When I was in 2nd grade, I marched in the Memorial Day parade as a Brownie. I got to carry one of the flags. Later, in my Freshman year of college, I marched in the local Italian Festival parade. Our town's chapter of the Sons of Italy gave me a scholarship for college and they asked all recipients to be in the parade. I wore a white skirt and shirt and a sash with the colors of the Italian flag.

2. In 10th grade I worked at this fancy ice cream parlor. I had to wear a black skirt and purple or pink polo shirt with the company's name on it. I despised wearing a skirt. The owner I worked for and all my managers were extremely chauvinistic....(and this was before sexual harassment laws).

3. I don't go to as many concerts as I did when I was a teenager. Generally, I like to listen to music when I'm driving or just hanging out at home.

4. My vanity plate would probably be some combination of my name...or a slogan. But we only get six letters/numbers here, so it would have to be something short and/or clever.

1) For three years in the early-mid-'80s I marched in the Alief something-or-other parade at the beginning of October. For two years, because I flunked math on the third and had to abide by the "no pass, no play" rule, I marched in the Foley's Thanksgiving Day parade. That always seemed to be the coldest day of the year in Houston, so I didn't weep too much on that third year when I didn't have to march through wind-tunnel streets in a miniskirt. Both of these were with the high school dance team. I also rode on a float in the Krewe of Zeus at Mardi Gras in college. No one flashed me, but my brother, who rode with me, saw quite a bit of bare bosom. Then, I rode on a float in the Pride Parade in Montrose a few years back. (You would think that dudes would realize that, in a Pride Parade, saying a woman is gorgeous and that he'll give her a kiss would not get you a bunch of beads. Now if they had made the same proposition to the guys.....or the drag queens....wait a minute, you don't think they thought a float full of short-haired women with no make-up were actually drag queens, do you?) Anyways, I love a parade!

2) When I was an usher, we had to wear white tuxedo shirts, black pants or skirts, and a bow tie and cumberbund. The one thing I liked about it was that you did not have to go through the "what am I going to wear today?" routine.

3) Wherever, whenever, however I like at the time. By the way, do they actually play music on MTV anymore?

4) BITE ME. That would be extra cool on a NY plate.

1) Yes many. Growing up I was in marching bands, and my mother was in several elections for city council. (she won)

2) I was a swing manager at McDonalds when I was younger. At least I got a tie instead of the stripped shirt

3) Live music is always the best.

4) Tough call...
I'd go with "N9LTP" (my shortwave callsign)
Or "Holdem" if I ever win enough at poker to buy the car in question. :)

1. Yes. I was in the marching band in high school. The most memorable was in one Christmas parade and the weather was colder than usual. My fingers were frozen stiff by the end of it.

2. Well, if you count volunteering at the hospital a job. I didn't like it. I hate pink.

3. I like live music in a concert. Especially when I'm actually among other musicians. It's more exciting playing the music than sitting and listening passively.

4. NOODLE

1. Yes. I participated in the February 15, 2003 March in downtown San Francisco with 750,000 of my closest friends to protest (at the time) the possibility of invading Iraq.

2. I had to wear a t-shirt for my Aunt and Uncle's Landscaping company for a few summers in high school. They were a cool color with a cool design, so I was down with it.

3. Live in concert, of course. It's the only REAL way to experience music. Dance like nobody is looking!

4. SLIFJAK

Yes, when I was little in the Memorial Day parade with the scouts and now in the Pride parades in Northampton and Hartford. I enjoyed marching back in my scouting days and I also enjoy it now marching the Pride parades. Maybe the girls that kissed Bluestockings were transgendered and identified as lesbians.

If a suit and tie count as a uniform then yes and I hate it. But I only have three more years to go before retirement.

In my college day I enjoyed going to concerts, but now at home or in the car. I rather sit back an enjoy the music, than the hassle of the crowds.

I already have a vanity plate, but if I got another I think it would be ěBIG GALî or something like that.

1. Various parades when I was in the dance/flag corps of my high school band. I think the one that stands out the most was for the Indy 500, as we actually did a lap around the track.

2. For three long days, I endured a job in fast-food at a place called Rax. My job was to keep the salad bar stocked. I hated the brown uniform.. I hated the job...I cried everynight.

3. Depends on the mood and the music.

4. I'd miss my IU plates, but I'd pick something like SuperGirl.... because "Crazy Cat Lady" doesn't exactly fit. ;-)

Q1. Nope
Q2. Nope
Q3. ZZ Top, 80 MPH, Interstate Anywhere.
Q4. RD

Posted by: RD at July 10, 2004 8:22 AM

1. Nope
2. Yes, while working in the Medical Profession{hospital setting}, I wore scrubs and white. I was honored to wear that clothing. It was easy to dress in the morning... I didn't have to think what I was going to wear. :-)
3. Live!
4. speeler or spieler

1. Last year, as a member of Indianapolis Ambassadors, I marched alongside a float in the 500 Festival Parade here in Indianapolis. The parade started right in front of my house, and I got to walk with my friend Beth (who goofed off with me the whole parade route). Next time around I'd like to ride on a float and wave to people.

2. I've waited on tables, snapped holiday photos at a mall, worked security at concerts and a tennis tournament, made burgers at a chain restaurant, and worked behind a hotel front desk,... all of which required that I wear a uniform of one sort or another. All of the uniforms have been sort or of cheesy, and while it's true what other people have said--that wearing a uniform takes the angst out of 'what will I wear today'--the companies and organizations I've worked for have always skimped out on the number of uniforms they allot to each employee. It always seems like your being shortchanged... if they'd just allow you to take a plentiful supply you wouldn't get so bogged down with doing laundry all of the time in order to keep your limited supply of uniform(s) clean and up to management's expectations.

3. I like listening to music while driving. There's just something about the music blaring and the scenery going by that allows for my mind to create unforgettable memories.

4. That's easy: "BELIBLOG" or "BLOGGER" or "MIKAL".
