FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1: None of us, I'm imagining, deliberately chooses to park our car in a handicapped-designated parking spot (unless, of course, we have the right to do so), right? With that thought in mind, have you ever used (or do you deliberately use) the handicapped-designated stall in a private venue/office buidling or public bathroom? Do you think its wrong or inappropriate for non-handicapped people to use handicapped-designated bathroom stalls?

Q2: Do you belong to any professionals membership-based organizations (like a trade association or a professional society)? How about community-based organizations like the PTA or a homeowners association? What about informal social groups like a book or movie club? If not, is there a group you'd like to be a part of, or a group you'd like to start yourself, but just haven't joined or been motivated to do so as of yet?

Q3: Have you ever posed nude for an art class? If so, what was that like. If not, what would it take to get you do it? On the flipside of this question... have you ever been in an art class where you had to sketch a scene which was based on a nude model being present in the room? If so, what was that like? Did it make you uncomfortable?

Q4: Lance Armstrong is expected to win a record sixth straight Tour De France bicycle race this weekend. Where, in your mind at least, does Armstrong's achievements rank him? Is he the greatest athlete ever or just the greatest bicycle racer ever, or do you feel he's neither or something else?

Comments:

1. Yes, when there's no more stalls open and there aren't any handicapped people. I don't think it's wrong to use it if there aren't any handicapped people around.

2. The only groups I've been in recently are writing groups.

3. No, to both being a model or an artist. I've seen naked people in hospital settings, but I don't think that counts.

4. Sorry, I don't follow any bicycling, even if it's the Tour de France.

1. Yes, I often try to get the handicap stall if I can...unless of course there is a handicap person. Mainly because I carry a lot of crap with me and a smaller stall is equiped properly for a sardine! I don't see any problem in using that stall. Womens bathrooms are very different than mens. There are more of us going to the bathroom at the same time and never enough stalls! So to get in and out in the least amount of time you need to use whichever stall is available.
2. I am a lifetime member of Girl Scouts. I would like to get more involved in other social groups such as womens business associations.
3. Nope...I can barely draw a stick and for me to pose...it would take a good plastic surgeon and personal trainer.
4. My buddy Lance. Personally, there really aren't too many words to describe him. For anyone who does not know who he is and just his personal health accomplishments is plain ignorant. You don't need to know what a bike is to know who Lance Armstrong is. The man is amazing in every possible way. A true survivor and athlete. I adore him and often find him as a great motivation for myself. To win the fight against cancer and then to accomplish his many feats...proves to us all that healthy living and a positive attitude go a long way!

1) I never use a handicapped parking spot but I do use the handicapped bathroom stall's. Is that a conflict or what????I have a hard enough time as it is using public restroom facilities.

2) I am about to join the "Teachers Union" (and NO I am not a Democrat). I belong to IFPA (Internationl Fitness Prof. Accoc.)

3) Can't discuss...I'm still in litigation.

4) If Secratariet is considered an athlete, then there is no argument here. Lance could be the greatest athlete of my time. I do not think people realize what Lance has accomplished and he is not even finished yet. Please read "It's not about the Bike".

1 - Handicapped people can wait in line for a toilet like the rest of us...although they should be first up for the handicapped stall, since they don't have as many options as non-handicapped people. As for a parking space, that is different. It isn't like waiting a minute or two for someone to finish using the facilities. People with abulatory problems (rather than the desire not to walk across a parking lot for whatever reason) can't just sit in the parking lot at Wal-Mart until someone decides to finish shopping (which could take hours) and vacate a place.

2 - Professional: only to get into the conferences. Community-based: no. Social: no. Form one: no.

3 - Hahahahahahaha! Never been in either situation. I'd only do it for a decent amount of money and the promise that the students would make me look better than I do. Artistic license, you know.

4 - Yawn.

Mine answers are up. :)

Q1: I try never to use public facilities unless it is absolutely necessary. When I do, I always, go directly to the largest stall because I am claustrophobic. If I am in a hospital, nursing home, or a place where there is likely to be elderly or handicapped persons who may require the larger stall for medical reasons, I usually just hold it until I get home. :)

I would never park in a clearly marked handicapped spot, unless it was very early in the morning and I needed to purchase flowers. Lazy people who parking handicapped spots are evil. This is one of my biggest pet-peeves.

Q2: Iím not big on social situations, so the answer is no, I have never been involved in any organizations other than sports, nor would I like to start and/or be a part of one now. I am however, being forced to join a group therapy class very soon, does that count?! :)

Q3: I would never pose nude. I donít even like to see myself naked. I was however an art student for 5 years, so I have definitely sketched my fair share of nude models (all shapes and sizes). I laughed and giggled from what I guess was uncomfortable embarrassment at first, I was even thrown out of class once until I could "compose myself," but after a while itís like drawing fruit, no big deal. After you realize that bodies are beautiful and intricate because of their differences, you begin to respect them for what they are, miracles created by god.

Q4: Lance rocks! He is obviously the greatest cyclists in our lifetime. And... heís dating Cheryl Crow, how jealous are his bike buddies!!! I really respect and admire what he has done for Cancer Research, too bad heís an atheist.

1. I never park in the handicapped spaces. I admit it, I do use the handicapped stalls in the bathroom, but only if it's the only one available and I gotta go! I don't think it's wrong to use them, especially if it's a restroom with only two stalls, one of which is designated for the handicapped.

2. No, I don't belong to any group or association at the moment. I've always wanted to join a book club or a hiking club.

3. I've never posed nude for an art class and never would want to. What's the point? But, I would probably do it if I was offered a lot of money...I've never had an art class where someone was the nude model. But if I did, it wouldn't bother me at all.

4. I hope Lance wins his 6th Tour de France. It's an amazing accomplishment and the endurance, dicipline and strength one needs to perform, and win, in this sport is tremendous. I wish people would stop accusing him of using drugs to enhance his performance. Why can't he just be a great athlete? Just because he's won so many times, doesn't mean he cheated. I think the people who are suspicious of him are just jealous and don't have the tenacity or will to do what he has done. Anytime one achieves greatness whether in sports or career, there is always someone there to try and rip him down. Instead of bringing him down, they need to lift him up and applaud him for his amazing achievement.

1. I'll use the handicapped restroom if nothing else is available. If I see you park your car in a handicapped spot, you better have the appropriate tag allowing you to do so, or I'll ask you to move your car. You see, my brother-in-law needs one of those spots to enable him to maintain as much as a normal life as possible. Ooopss.. that sounded like a rant.. Don't get me going on this Mikal :-)

2. As much as I read, you'd think I'd be in a book club, but I've never joined one. It could be fun!

3. I don't think I'd ever pose nude for an art class. It would have to be more of an individual setting.. maybe for an artist friend..something like that.

4. LANCE is the greatest, super-duper, outstanding, incredible, celebrated, momentous, stellar, magnificient, superior, world class, pronounced, eye-catching, noteworthy, prominent, brilliant, master, champion in the history of mankind!

I think lance is going for number 7.

Posted by: Doug at July 23, 2004 10:53 AM

1. Yes, but only if there is not someone handicapped in line. I never park in the handicapped parking spots.
2. I belong to and book club, and CIBA, Central Indiana Bicycling Association.
3. Neither on both counts unfortunately :-)
4. Lance is amazing. To recover from very serious cancer, cancer that required his treatment to bring him to the brink of death and back and come back and win the Tour 5 times? And he is so involved in cancer awareness now. Arguably the Tour is one of the most grueling physical challenges. The cyclists have to have IV's every night because they cannot ingest enough food the normal way to offset what they burn. To ride those distances, through the hills day after day is amazing. I'm with those about the doping accusations, ridiculous. Some people are just built different physically and emotionally. Chris Carmichael posts his VO2 and heart rate numbers and he's way above even an athletic average on both. And to the poster about Lance being an athiest, interesting observation. I'm going to throw something a little controversial out here for discussion. I am not an athiest, but I had a close friend who suffered from an agressive form of cancer that eventually took her life. The whole experience really caused her to question her faith, existence of God etc. and I think Lance is atheist for that same reason based on what I read in his books. I think having a disease like cancer can either cause one to develop a stronger faith, or lose it alltogether.

1. I legally use the handicapped parking spaces whenever I go shopping with my father. But I still feel guilty thinking that I could leave him off and go park in a regular space.
As for the handicapped bathroom stall, yes I use it if there is no handicapped person around, but like others have said I think a handicapped person should be first in the queue to use it.

2. Yes, I am in a support group for transgender persons here in Connecticut and I am also the director of it. I am also a member of a speakerís group and we go out to colleges and give talks about transgenderism.

3. No. I can't draw worth beans and the only art class that Iíve taken was in college, Art 101.

4. Lance who? I donít really follow the race, however from what Iíve heard; I think he will win this year also. I rank him high up there on the list of athletes, probably one of the greatest bicycle racers of our time.

posting answers on another blog...
that doesn't seem right.

I hope you're all using the trackback feature.

Q1: Yes I have and see no problem with it. Many restrooms have only one stall anyhoo. Waiting in line is not a privilege.

Q2: Not at the moment. Chambers of Commerce trip my trigger. Iíve thought about doing something locally with Huntingtonís Disease, but Iím not quite ready yet.

Q3: No. Probably wouldnít. No. Probably would.

Q4: Lance Armstrong has got to be ranked among the greatest athletes in the world ever.
