FOUR FOR FRIDAY
Q1: Do you have any magazine subscriptions, or do you make a point of purchasing certain magazines on a weekly or monthly basis? If so, which ones? If not, are there magazine subscriptions you wish you had?
Q2: Which do you think has a more profound impact in the world... 1. People and institutions operating from a standpoint of fear (meaning, people or organizations doing things for fear of something else happening if they do not); or, 2. Our individual and collective impatience as a society?
Q3: Do you use fabric softener when you do laundry? If so, do you prefer the liquid kind that gets added to the wash, or are you more of the sheet type which gets added to the laundry as it goes into the dryer?
Q4: Are there any foods that are widely held as being common everyday eats which you've never been able to bring yourself to try even once?

Q1: I have two magazine subscriptions, Cooking Light and Muscle and Fitness for Her.
Q2: I may not understand this question. But, I donít believe that anything good comes of fear.
Q3: Liquid fabric softener added in the wash will keep your clothes smelling fresher for a longer period of time, and will keep them from having that mildew smell if you accidentally leave them in the washer overnight. Fabric softener sheets however, are also good to have around. If you put them in your drawers they will keep your clothes smelling April fresh, and they are also good to ward off static cling.
Q4: Humus. Blah! I also have a hard time with sour cream.
1. I have subscriptions to InStyle Magazine, Shape Magazine, and Triathlete Magazine and am thinking of subscribing to "RealSimple" I get lots of others from my mom and sister (Better Homes and Garden, Lifetime, Good Housekeeping, etc). At the bookstore, I'll flip thru Cosmo and Glamour, but typically don't purchase unless there is something spectacular in them.
2. Fear. It means companies waste lots of time ensuring that they do the policially correct thing to ensure they don't get sued.
3. BOTH. Ahh.. soft fluffy towels. My cat loves to jump in the laundry basket.
4. None that I can think of.
1. I subscribe to Organic Style and "O" The Oprah magazine. I used to always subscribe to National Geographic, but I ended up keeping too many of them, I decided to stop subscribing. If I see a good issue of NG on the newsstand, I will get it, but otherwise I just have the two subscriptions above. I love reading magazines, but don't like the idea of the waste...so I recylce them regularly.
2. I think some of our fear as individuals and as a society stem from organizations acting out of fear. Just turn on the news or read a newspaper --it's all sensationalized. The media in particular feeds us fear --terrorism, politics, crime--what would our world be like if we focused more on the positive/good in society?
3. I never use fabric softener. And I try and use only natural, chemical free laundry detergents.
4. Sushi. And I won't eat anything else containing animal meat.
1. The only "magazines" I read on a regular basis is Nature and Science. On a semi-regular basis: Nature Medicine and Molecular Microbiology. If this makes me a boring geek, so be it.
2. Fear makes a profound impact although definitely not a good one.
3. No.
4. I think I've tried most things at least once. I really don't like cottage cheese though.
1. I love magazines! I get so excited like a kid on Christmas when one comes in the mail. We have subscriptions to Indianapolis Monthly, Budget Travel, Shape, Fitness, and Lucky. I will often buy which I am going to start subscribing to is Womens Fitness RX..what a great magazine! I plan to cancel Shape and Fitness because this magazine is more informative. I also get W, Bazaar, Vogue, Star, US, Entertainment, and a bunch of others through my friend. I often am known to buy a Bridal magazine here and there for my wedding!
2. Fear can be both positive and negative. Some people operate out of fear to remain "P.C" which becomes a positive. However, if their end result is not what was expected, then the fear they operate in can then become deception...weird question Mikal...not really sure how to answer...but I think society as whole operates in a f***ked up manner.
3. OOOHHHH....BOTH of course!
4. Sushi, Indian food, and various forms of sea life...such as squid, octopus, eel, etc. Texture is an issue with me.
Q1: I do not have any magazine subscriptions. I tend to stock up on them though when I travel. I like to purchase Time, Newsweek, Men's Health, Sports Illustrated, and the Harvard Business Review. I suppose subscriptions to each wouldn't be such a bad thing, but I have no interest in receiving them each and every week or month. The USA Today is another one I like, along with the Wall Street Journal.
Q2: I think when people operate from a standpoint of fear they create considerable damage to themselves. Our collective impatience as a society and as individuals living within U.S. society... I think that has more of a profound impact on the world. Our impatience as individuals and as society leads to two polar opposites... innovation and war!
Q3: I was always a fan of the fabric sheets, but thanks to my roomie I recently I switched to the liquid. I'm now a big, big fan of the liquid... especially anything organic that smells nice.
Q4: I don't know how common it is, but venison is one that comes to mind. My Mother... she has never once, not once, tasted yogurt!
