FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1: Scenario... You're driving your car down the road when you notice a police officer pointing a radar gun at oncoming traffic. Once you pass the police officer, do you blink/flicker your lights at oncoming traffic to warn of the speed trap? Why or why not?

Q2: Do you think the United States will experience another large scale terrorist attack before the 2004 Presidential Election in November?

Q3: If you had the talent to compete for a medal, which Olympic sport(s) -- summer and/or winter -- would you choose to participate in?

Q4: How does this summer compare to previous ones?

Comments:

1. I used to blink my lights but now that I know a number of policemen, I understand that they do this in areas where there is a problem. People need to be aware as drivers. Live and learn.

2. I hope not, but it is entirely possible.

3. Keyboarding. I have very fast fingers. I'm sorry. Was that supposed to be a serious answer? Then it would have to be Crew. Never done it, but it requires strength and teamwork and I might be able to do that. I can't run fast, swim fast, or even do a cartwheel. That doesn't leave much.

4. Weather wise it has been fabulous. It seemed shorter. Every day is going faster and faster.

1. No...actually I didn't know that when people blink their lights that it was a warning of a speed trap.
2. Anything is possible.
3. Either gymnastics, beach volleyball, or swimming...do they have surfing?
4. This has been one of the busiest summer's of my life (planning for a wedding)...I really have not been able to enjoy it and it has been so beautiful outside!

1. I doubt I'd flash my lights to warn other drivers.

2. I pray that we never have to experience anything like that.

3. Triathlon.

4. Pretty damn good!!

1. No. If people are going way over the speed limit, they deserve to be caught. Anyways, I've never seen anyone warn others with blinking lights.

2. I really hope not.

3. Trampoline jumping. I'd come in dead last, but at least it'll be fun.

4. This summer is much more stressful.

1. Absolutely - I'd want to be warned. Besides, MOST speeding tickets are just a money source (not in all cases); I believe they serve very little public safety purpose.

2. It's definitely possible.

3. I'd choose to participate in a sport that I like the physical results of training on the body; I wouldn't want a gymnast body (the women all look like stunted 12 yr old boys, or even a swimmer body (all the women appear inexplicably 'chunky' while the men look very lean. Perhaps rowing.

4. They keep getting better and better!

1. Yes, I blink my lights. I think that speed control areas are typically silly. I understand their purpose, but I feel that the cops in my area could be spending my tax money more effectively by tracking down 'real' crime.

2. No, but I do believe that we will 'find' Osama Bind Laden before the election.

3. Rowing, as a coxswain.

4. Rainy, very rainy. It has been a wonderfully wet and green summer in Colorado.

1. No. I agree the police are in problem areas and most traffic accidents are caused by speed.

2. I would expect there to be another attack, but am unsure of the timing.

3. Downhill skiing !!

4. It has been a great summer. I'm not a fan of the "normal" Indiana hot and humid summers.

1. I don't usually flick my lights to oncoming traffic. If someone is speeding, then they should get a ticket. I try not to speed--and someone always flicks their lights for me--so maybe if I'm in a good mood, I'll flick back.

2. I certainly hope not! And if there was one, I'd be a bit suspicious of the government. But then again, look what happened in Madrid. I just pray every night that it doesn't happen again.

3. Well, I'm not much into playing sports. But maybe I'd compete in Ice Skating.

4. This has been an awesome summer for me. Lots of good things have come my way. And I've met some really wonderful people. I think it will just keep getting better. Now, if only I could find an amazing job...I'd be set!

Q1: I do flick my headlights on and off when an approaching car is about to enter a speed trap, but now that I think of it, perhaps I shouldn't. I mean, if they're speeding--which creates an unsafe environment for everyone on the road--shouldn't they be stopped and either warned or fined? Ideally, yes, but as we all know, we do not live in an ideal world, and people speed for a variety of reasons, some of which are very appropriate. On the one hand, I'd want others to tip me off to the approaching speed trap, but on the other hand I suppose I could understand if they didn't choose to.

Q2: I do not think the U.S. will be subject to another large-scale terrorist attack before the November elections. I do, however, feel that one will surely come if the current administration is reelected.

Q3: Summer sports: Tennis, Table Tennis, Badminton, Team Handball, Field Hockey (Men's), and the 100, 200, and 400 meter races in Track and Field. Winter sports: Bobsled, Curling, Ski Jumping, Snowboarding, Cross-Country Skiing, and the Men's Downhill events. (Hey, the question stated "if" I had the talent to compete, so 'if' I did, those would be the events I'd want to try :-)

Q4: This summer has flown by faster than any other in my recent memory. I think part of it has to do with the fact that I started a new job in mid-June, coupled along with the fact that the temperature here in Indianapolis hasn't broken 90 once. Hot weather and summer always seem to go together for me, and with trying to get up-to-speed at my new company, I havenít had much outside playtime in between the solstice and equinox. Other than that, itís been a great stretch. My weight is in check, for the most part, and Iíve forged great new friendships. Who could ask for anything more.

Mine Are Up!

A1: No. I don't bother, since I know in short order who ever is speeding (wrecklessly) will eventually get a ticket.

A2: Nope. However...terrorism will presist, despite what any administration says it can or will do. Terrorism by its very nature doesn't go away. It festers, conceals, and can renew its mission at will, and there is very little that military force can accomplish on this front. The sunny-side to this...over time the mission may loose support, and so the terrorism transforms.

A3: Time Trial Cycling, Swimming, Pole Vault, Marathon, Downhill Skiing, Cross Country Skiing

A4: Summers have been comparatively the same...fun, full of climbing, work, travel, and study.

Posted by: Brad at August 28, 2004 9:44 PM

1 - Hell, yes. It's good speeding karma.

2 - Isn't the election sort of a terrorist attack, depending on who wins, their agenda, and your interest group affiliation?

3 - Oooh, skating or gymnastics.

4 - HELL YEAH!!!!!
