FOUR FOR FRIDAY
Q1: Elton John has those colorful glasses. Former U.S. President Ronald Reagan (b.1911 - d.2004) had his Jelly Beans. And former U.S. Senator Paul Simon (b.1928 ñ d.2003) had bow-tiesÖ lots and lots of bow-ties. How about you... do you have any 'signature' or 'trademark' items; things that just scream that it's you because you either always have it on your person, in your car, at your office, etc., and which friends, family, or colleagues universally know you by?
Q2: President Clinton did it in 1998, and President George W. Bush is threatening to do the same in 2004. Do you think an incumbent President seeking reelection should be allowed to bow out of one, two, or any or all of the Presidential Debates sponsored and managed by the Commission on Presidential Debates?
Q3: Which would you prefer... to be rich beyond your wildest imagination... as famous as anyone dead or alive... or as powerful as the most influential person you can think of?
Q4: Do you have reoccurring dreams? If so, and you feel comfortable talking about them, what do yours focus on, and, do you think they actually mean something, or to you are they're just these things you tend to dream up while sleeping which you feel have no baring on anything whatsoever?

Q1: For the last six years or so, my trademark item at work has been a big glass bowl that's almost always filled to the brim with Peanut M&Ms. During my senior year of high school it was a pocket-size super bendy Gumby figure that went everywhere I went.
Q2: I think that the incumbent, along with the official nominee of the opposing party, should be required to participate in all of the Commission on Presidential Debates' events. One of the best chances voters have for making a decision is through watching these televised debates between the candidates themselves. Remove the discourse and you remove an essential part of the decision-making process.
Q3: Fame doesn't interest me nearly as much as power or wealth, and power can be gained--for better or worse--thru the accumulation of wealth, so I'd go for the wealth, which I'd use to do lots and lots of good.
Q4: I used to have a very vivid and reoccurring dream when I was a little kid. Interestingly enough, mine centered around Gulliverís adventure in Lilliput, which is often referred to as a deadpan first-person narrative that rarely shows any signs of self-reflection or deep emotional response! As an adult, my only reoccurring dream, which occurs very infrequently, has me jumping upwards with hang-time that would impress even Michael Jordan.
1. I have a few trademarks...I always have my sunglasses either on my head or eyes day or night. My work trademark is that I always burn a candle. I'm also known as carrying a stockpile of makeup with me wherever I go...just incase I am abandoned somewhere; at least I'll look good!
2. I think it is important that both parties be present...I must agree with Mikal on this one.
3. Money = influence, period. Donald Trump is a prime example...because he is absolutely rich, it then commands influence among his peers.
4. When I was a child I used to have this nightmare of the alphabet and numbers strobing across a yellow background. I would have it almost everyday and my mom and dad would have to calm me down for quite some time. I would also have dreams of elevating. Now that I'm older, I often have nightmares of a panther chasing me and I jump off a high-rise building to get away. The weird thing about it is I feel myself falling and hitting the ground, once I hit the ground, then I am standing looking over my own dead body. Weird I know...
***On a different note, just wanted to say it was nice to meet you Cindra!!!!
--just read over my entry above and realized I cannot seem to spell today! Sorry!
Q1: Really miss the M&Mís MB. I would say my signature trademark is my black clothes, I have always worn head to toe black every since grade school, and no certain reason, I just like how I look in the color.
Q2: I believe all presidential candidates should have to participate in the debates. How else will the voters be able to see what these men are truly made of. It is only under that kind of pressure and scrutiny, that their true character will show. It does not matter how much coaching and prepping theyíve had, or what answers their staff writers are whispering into the microphones in their ear. When the topics become heated, and their insecurities kick-in, this is when we get to see what these guys are all about.
Q3: Fame doesnít interest me in the least, Iíd rather be behind the scenes with my great riches, doing wonderful things for deserving people.
Q4: I have had the same reoccurring dream since early childhood. My entire family is in a car driving through the mountains, and the car veers off of the road and plummets to the bottom of a cliff. I am the only one who survives the crash. But in reality, if my family were to all die, I would just as soon be dead too. Iím not quite sure where this dream came from, or why I have it. Or for that matter, why I canít be cursed with reoccurring dreams of deep passionate kisses and candle lit dinners. I've obviously pissed off the dream fairy at some point, all my dreams suck.
I'm sitting here smiling as I read these responses. I now see faces with names. How wonderful!
1.My trademark has always been sunglasses and camera. My eyes are very sensitive to light...otherwise I tear up. But the camera is the big thing. My youngest son always referred to me as the "warden" and the "paparazzi." It used to drive him nuts until all the kids would gather and go through the pictures and enjoy. If only it was someone else's mom. He likes it now.
2. It's not often that you get to see the two candidates together... I would rather see a debate than the conventions and the commercials.
3. Definitely the money. Like Mikal, I am not interested in being famous, but there are so many places and ways that money could be helpful.
4. Dreams? There was a stretch of time where I was having a dream where I would try and get away from something and I would leap in the air and fly. I could only fly in small spurts, but I somehow would manage to just stay out of reach. It was exhausting. I think it was from working 40 hour weeks and trying to finish my four year degree.
1. Long blond hair.
2. The incumbent should be able to skip one for "presidential" obligations.
3. None of the above. Fame, money, or power hold no real appeal for me.
4. Flying - just spreading my arms and taking off into the sky, gliding and feeling the wind on my face.
1. Not sure there is anything that really defines me, but when I was a little girl, I loved pickles (still do)! One Christmas I got a pickle necklace (it was plastic and had a bite taken out of it)--I loved that necklace! Now, my friends and family probably would say that I always have to take a sweater with me--even in summer--to stay warm (in airconditioning). Otherwise, I can't really think of anything that is my "trademark".
2. Well, I'm not hugely into politics, but I think it's a good idea for all aspects of government to be debated. It gives us, the voters, a better idea about where the candidates stand on issues and how the candidates handle themselves under pressure. I say, have all three debates, especially this year.
3. Well, I never want fame...I'd lose my privacy (okay, maybe, but only if it was for something awesome like finding a cure for some horrible disease or writing the "Great American Novel"). And, I'm not a power-seeker, in the sense of wanting to be President or the first female Pope. One influential person that I've always resepected and admired is/was Mother Teresa. But, if I had to choose--I think I'd like to have the money. While money doesn't solve all problems or make you happy, it sure doesn't hurt. I could do a lot of good with a lot of money--and live a life where I don't have to answer to anyone for my job security. Of course having tons of money gives one some form of power--and hopefully I would use it for good. Just give me the money so I don't have to work for the man!
4. I have two recurring dream themes. One is that I'm back at college and I'm moving into my dorm...for some reason I always end up with someone incompatible and my friends are nowhere to be found--very stressful. Also, tied into the "back at college" theme is that I need to take one more class before I can graduate, and I'm freaking out because I know I've already graduated, so why are they making me take one more class? The second theme is water. I sometimes have these dreams where I am trying to cross a bridge and as soon as I get to the middle, it ends and drops off into the water. It's usually the same body of water (a river by the house where I grew up). Water dreams always have to do with me in water and trying to get out of it or not falling into it. I think both themes occur in my dreams when I am stressed out about something. Maybe they will go away when I finally feel settled in my life and I am no longer worried about what direction it is taking.
1. Shock of hair over my forehead and crooked teeth (in my country, crooked teeth are not considered life threateningly ugly, to the despair of dentists). Am taking care of the hair the natural way...soon there will ne none.:)
2. The more debates the merrier. It is the single best way for voters to judge for themselves who they want running the show the next 4 years.
3. The money...fame and influence follows money automatically.
4. I dream of snakes, thousands and thousands of them regularly. Wherever I look there are snakes, coiled around window grilles, on the floor, even on telephone cables...everywhere! I always wake up in a cold sweat...deadly, huh?
1. Cheepo digital watches.
2. They should attend all debates.
3. Wealth.
4. I don't have recurring dreams, but I do have recurring motifs. Especially mazes.
A1: I've always been "trademarked" by wearing a hat and fleece. Rarely ever am I without one. I also always have a stainless steel coffee mug (for tea usually).
A2: NO! All final ballot candidates, following the primary's, should be required to attend to any debate managed by the Commission on Presidential Debates. Is is one of the few opportunities for rhetorical and practical sparring between the candidates, allowing for the public to gain a snapshot of comparative issues.
A3: None of the above please!
A4: Yes...I have recurring dreams of my father. They don't really have any bearing, but do help me maintain a connection.
Q1: I guess recently it's those damn stickers on my car. Everyone knows it is me. Even people who have never seen my car know it's mine. I started putting them up because I wanted the car to have a bit of my personality rather than simply look like an old man car. It has too many trite political messages, and a few pretty good ones, but I love it for some reason.
Q2: Not unless there is some particular reason having to do with governing the country. Although most voters for this particular election have already decided, it is still important for people to have every opportunity they can to figure out who would be the best representative for them as individuals and for the United States as a nation. I'm confused by the year 1998 cited for Clinton, but I guess 1996 is what is meant here. And I think it was terrible for him to do that, and would not be a good choice for Bush, either.
Q3: Depends upon what kind of influence, I suppose. I'd rather chose greater intelligence than any of these, but I guess influence would be my choice of the three. I would like to have a bit more money, but I don't have too much interest in having tons of it beyond having the ability to assist others with it. That would be lovely. Fame...hmmm...there's too many things you have to trade to keep it up. Having influence for good things is wonderful, and it is a characteristic I desire.
Q4: I rarely have particular dreams that reoccur, but I definitely have types that do, simply with different casts. Most of my dreams revolve around people from my daily life in odd situations, but often have some people I've never met as well. The type of dream I have that recurs the most...goodness, this is so girlie, is a basic romance kind of dream. Unfulfilled romance, really. It's usually the start of something--meeting a new guy or sparking something with someone from my life, whether I am interested in them in real life or not. I guess it's just showing my desire to be loved and wanted, and also how I generally enjoy falling for someone more than being in a relationship. I always loved the adventure of the first few dates, and in my earlier years I would end things once the started getting into a stale relationship routine. That has changed, and I've come to realise that a relationship has more adventures than I had imagined. But I still have those dreams sometimes.
I do think that dreams can have significance, but perhaps not everything in the dreams are significant. I think it is random synapses firing or something of the like, but in this we may also reveal parts of our subconscious, or go through other thoughts from the day. I think that there are very few general dream archetypes, but it's something we have to think through ourselves, and if there is a particular dream that feels significant we should explore it.
1. I am known for my love of nature...not sure if I can place "that" on my desk. If there was an object that might identify me these days would be "sunglasses" and "reading glasses". I can' find them most days{my kids go nuts and so do I when that occurs}. They shield my blue-eyes which over time I have been known for.
2. ALL Candidates should be required to participate in the debates!
3. I would opt for powerful. Perhaps by being a "Good" powerful person positive change might occur. Money means nothing, the intangible of the written word and deed mean the most to me.
4. I don't sleep much... and dream while awake. If I can remember my dreams I think they speak volumes about one's life.
~Great ?s!~
