FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1: Are you concerned about identity theft? If so, what do you do today to protect yourself that you didn't do just a few years ago?

Q2: The summer of 2005 is shaping up to be one of the best on record for potentially blockbuster-level movies. The 40 Year Old Virgin, The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl, Batman Begins, Bewitched, The Brothers Grimm, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo, The Dukes of Hazzard, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Kingdom of Heaven, The Longest Yard, Monster-in-Law, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, Triple X: State of The Union, War of the Worlds, and Wedding Crashers. Which movies are you most looking forward to seeing this summer?

Q3: At the same time that the U.S. Department of Defense is failing to meet recruitment goals and is forcing some soldiers to stay in Iraq longer than they had signed up for, soldiers are being forced out of the military because they are gay. In light of these facts, or not, how do you feel about the U.S. military's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy?

Q4: What are your favorite sections of a bookstore?

Comments:

1. I'm not really all that concerned, although I likely should be. However, I do shred things like credit card apps that have tons of my information on them.

2. First and foremost, I hadn't realized that many movies were coming out this summer...guess I've been hiding in a call center. I'll likely see The Brothers Grimm, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo (when it hits DVD), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, and War of the Worlds. The Dukes of Hazzard (why is this coming back, and why as a movie. Loved the original as a kid, hated the new cousins). Kingdom of Heaven (huh? Is this a follow up to that sadistic Passion movie?). The Longest Yard (if this has anything to do with football, I'll watch it on DVD). Monster-in-Law (sounds stupid, but I haven't seen a trailer or heard a premise). Triple X: State of The Union (this screams DVD and drinking game). Wedding Crashers (is this some stupid Matthew Perry - he was the one in Friends right? - movie with some stupid sidekick, go get the girl before she gets married movie?) I've really been out of it, apparently, as I have not heard of most of these movies.

3. Why kick out people that are perfect willing to be draped in the stars in stripes when they fly back in a pine box? We don't care about their religious affiliation, and that seems like a far more subversive or potentially volatile way of being than someone that shacks up with the same sex. At the end of the day, they are Americans willing to give up their Bill of Rights, in order to fight for 'our country.'

4. I like the Sexuality and Technology areas.

Yes, I do take special precautions now when I enter personal data on the web and I shred all my documents. I campaigned at work to take off the Social Security number and bank account number of our paychecks stubs that they mail us. I just try to use common sense and think before I give out personal data.

Iím not a big fan of the going to the movies, the only ones that interest me are Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and maybe the War of the Worlds. But, I will wait until the crowds die down.

I think they should be allowed. I believed that all of the NATO countries but us allow them in the military. Itís a great waste of training and resources.

Three guesses, if you guessed SiFi youíll be right. I usually make beeline first thing when I enter the store to see if there any new releases. Oh, one other I do is check out the publishers on line for new releases After that my next favorite section is the biography section.

1. I'm always paranoid of identity theft. I try only to give out the least amount of info required and only use credit cards when necessary.

2. The best? Your taste, I guess. I don't go to movies much and I'm not going to start going more often any time soon.

3. That's a stupid policy. If people want to serve in the military then they should be allowed to regardless of belief and orientation (which has no bearing on the ability to serve anyway).

4. I typically look at new releases, sci-fi/fantasy, science non-fiction, and the bargains.

1. I never give out any information about myself to telemarketers, internet companies, or anyone I don't trust and I don't carry my SS card. I'm a private person anyway, so I'm not about to share much with people I don't know.

2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

3. I don't think it should matter if one is gay or not. If they want to join the military then they shouldn't be turned away or forced out. It doesn't have anything to do with the ability to be a "soldier", just homophobia and right-wing christian fundamentalism.

4. I usually check out the Native American section or the magazine racks. But, it usually depends on what I'm looking for when I go to the book store. I also like the bargain books section, I usually find some good stuff for cheap.

1. The other day I received an e-mail that warned about this very subject. I posted the hints that were provided. They made me think how easy it might be to steal my identity. So I guess I worry more now than I did.
2. I don't go to movies much. We rent. The BIG screen is BIG treat. I am glad for the list. Looks like there are some kid-shows out soon. I can hear the kids clapping in the background. How nice. Hummm so many choices. Tanks for the list.
3. I don't have an informed comment on this topic. I have never been in the military, don't think I am going to go. Not sure sexual preference should matter, since it is your choice to sign up.
4. New Titles/Best Sellers... Technology and Science.

Great ?s again Mikal. You are getting quite good at this. I am looking forward to your answers per usual. :-}

1. I'm not very worried, but I do have a paper shredder and I shred almost everything now.

2. I want to see Batman Returns, Bewitched, and Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. I have to admit I haven't heard of a lot of the movies on your list. I'll go see Star Wars just to put an end to that whole mess; War of the Worlds looks good but I loathe Tom Cruise.

3. It's a stupid policy and I've heard from reliable sources that it's arbitrarily (at best) enforced.

4. New releases (fiction), cooking, and art/photography

1. I'm not really too concerned. Let's face it, they'rescraping the bottom of the barrel if they're trying to steal my identity. That being said, I do shred or burn credit card statements and the like.

2. Of those listed, I'd have to go with Kingdom of Heaven and Hitchhiker's Guide. I've loved all 5 books in the guide trilogy since I read them in Junior High.

3. I've always figured that Don't Ask, Don't Tell was a weasly cop-out. Now that retired generals and conservative congresspeople are coming out against it, I'm hoping that the policy, and the ban on gays in the military in general will go away.

4. Social Sciences, travel, general fiction

Q1: I've been concerned about identity theft for quite some time. For as long as I can remember, whenever I've been at an ATM machine, I've always shielded my hand movements; whenever I give someone my debit card information via the phone, I talk extra softly (and request that if they are going to repeat it back to me that they do the same); and whenever I sign a debit card receipt at a restaurant or store, I always fold up the receipt and place it directly into the hand of someone who works at the establishment. I never throw away receipts without first shredding them, and I also shred--before throwing them away--all offers that come in the mail.

Q2: I want to see Bewitched, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Longest Yard, and Wedding Crashers. I know I'll end up seeing the others too, but probably on DVD or when they make their way onto cable television.

Q3: I believe that a person's sexual orientation has nothing whatsoever to do with their ability to serve their country, in any capacity, including military service. The U.S. policy of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' is as flawed today as it was right from the get-go, in my opinion.

Q4: Psychology, Sexuality/Relationships, Humor, Graphic Novels, and the magazine section (mmmm... magazines).

Q1.Not overly concerned...although one thing i never do is put my details on the net...

Q2.Bewitched,charlie and the chocolate factory(so i can see if it even comes close to the original),and dukes of hazards.

Q3.I think like Australia they should pull their heads in...do gay people not serve their country as well as straight people???i think so...
Q4.I simply can not go past the history section(damn wish i would have listened in skool!!)

Q1: Take advantage of the do not call and do not mail opt-out lists and shred almost everything. I found a list of good suggestions at http://www.demartek.com/identitytheft200504.html.

Q2: Revenge of the Sith, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Q3: It's disruptive.

Q4: Technology and history.
