I almost didn't get that one. But that's no big surprise, I kept thinking today was Monday. :o)
My answer was, "A blind man really doesn't need sunglasses."
It's kind of funny. I work in an ophthalmology office, so I meet blind people all the time. Usually if they want sunglasses, they ask for them.
BTW, the definition of legal blindness is best corrected vision of 20/200. People with 20/200 or 20/400 vision (the big E on the eye chart) can still read, albeit with difficulty. They may use special low-vision equipment, or a simple magnifying glass to help them. Most people who are blind can still see to somewhat.
As far as blind people needing sunglasses, you might (or might not) be surprised. Some people who are blind, are very sensitive to light (i.e. aniridia). Other may just want to look cool, like Ray Charles :)
My brain must have fried in the heat wave last weekend... I kept thinking, "what a dolt! why on earth would he have to make a gesture for sunglasses?? can't he just ask for them?" but my fried brain wouldn't let me think that was the right answer, so I gave up. Can you say, "DUH"?
BTW, my beloved maternal grandfather was completely blind - he had glass eyes, so he definitely couldn't see any light whatsoever. (http://www.miscellaneous.ca/lairdkrouse - my tribute website to him.) He wore sunglasses every day. I think it was because he didn't want to make people uncomfortable with his glass eyes. It makes him easy to pick out in old family photos too.
I've seen this one before so I already knew the answer. :(
