FOUR FOR FRIDAY
Q1: When you shop for groceries, do you go to a traditional supermarket like King Soopers, Kroger, Albertsons, Marsh, Stop & Shop, or Safeway, a deep discounter like Costco or Sam's Club, or do you prefer specialty stores like Trader Joe's, Wild Oats, or Whole Foods? If you shop at a combination of stores, which items do you tend to buy at which stores?
Q2: Not that you would or even want to, but if you did, what image would you choose to have tattooed on your body, and where would it go?
Q3: Do you feel gender or ethnicity should have been a factor in President George W. Bush's nominee to fill Sandra Day O'Connor's spot on the United States Supreme Court? Despite how you may feel about that particular issue, is Judge Roberts, in your mind, a good choice for the Supreme Court?
Q4: At what stage of life do you think it's okay for children to have cell phones?

1. I usually shop at Trader Joe's and Wild Oats. The only time I shop at the big chain grocery stores is when I can't find a particular item at the other two stores. I usually buy fruits, veggies, dairy, etc. at TJ's and cosmetics and other yummy things at WO.
2. I wouldn't get a tattoo, but if I did, probably a symbol like a sun and stars, a tiny heart or small dragon, or the name of someone who is important to me. I'd have it done in a discreet place though.
3. It would have been nice to have another woman fill her place. I don't know enough about the new nominee to give an opinion. He's probably more conservative than Sandra Day O'Connor, but that's to be expected from Bush.
4. I think they should be allowed to have them at 16. That's the usual age kids start driving, and if they are stuck can call for help. Also, they won't be tying up the house phone. I wish they'd been around when I was in high school.
(1) We do most of our shopping at the Super Target on 135, with occasional sallies to Kroger (especially for last-minute alcohol) and O'Malia's (for meat and deli.) In general, we don't have the fancy stores on this side of town.
(2) Probably a non-committal symbol (such as a star), or the Wife's initials somewhere discreet. Probably on my rear, so that I could go swimming without having it seen.
(3) No. Gender should not be a tit-for-tat (no pun intended) issue on the Supreme Court. Women have now been part of the political process for long enough that there are high-ranking female conservative judges and high-ranking female liberal judges. All things considered, I think that Judge Roberts is the best that liberals could hope for with this President -- he's not going to nominate William Kunstler.
(4) Whenever they need one. Of all of the useless things that parents buy their children these days, a cell phone is actually quite practical.
1) I shop at SuperTarget, Kroger and Wild Oats, based on convenience. I used to shop at Marsh (even though I really didn't like them) b/c they were on my way home. Now there's a Kroger right around the corner. When I'm really busy and need to do my shopping on my lunch hour, it's SuperTarget. I like to go to WildOats for their fresh foods (salads, bakery, and whatnot) and my organic vegetables and dairy. THey also carry these awesome frozen "Pizza Popups" that are great for kids.
2: I'd get a tattoo of an elephant, and it would be on my right side, either the low hip or the shoulder blade. I almost did once, but I'm a big chicken when it comes to pain.
3: I agree with Missy, it would have been nice were it a woman, and I don't know enough about Roberts to have a completely educated opinion. However, my basic distrust of the Bush administration leads me to believe he's a miserable candidate. Smart, sure, but apparently doesn't share my values.
4: 17 or 18 -- they've been driving long enough to have experience behind the wheel without something attached to their ear. I like the bumper stickers that say "Hang up and Drive!".
I usually shop at a large national chain store ( A&P ) for the bulk of my grocery shopping, but shop for last minute items at an independent store down the block from me. The prices seem to be cheaper and also a greater selection at the national stores.
I am not a believer in tattoos and but those who want tattoos thatís their choice to make not mine. If, I say ifÖÖ. I ever wanted one it would be a small butterfly on my rear.
I do not think gender or race should be a consideration. Only how well they are qualified and that is the hard part, what should the qualifications be. I believe that they should have a law degree, have been on a judge and a record of using common sense when interpreting the law and realize that the law is fluid.
Itís funny, when the conservatives are in power, they say their judges donít make the law, but only are following the Constitution and when the liberals are in power, they say their judges donít make the law, but only are following the Constitution.
I think once they start driving they should have a cell phone and that they should pay for all calls except calls to their parents.
I was stuck in traffic awhile back and I was watching this car next to me. A teenage girl was talking on the phone for over the twenty minutes while we were creeping along the highway, her passenger was sitting staring out the side window totally ignored. Maybe Iím old fashion, but I think that simple etiquette says you hang up and not ignore your passenger.
1) Since I don't have a car, I usually shop somewhere close, either O'Malia's or Krogers.
2) I have five tattoos already a) small Road Runner on right shoulder b) small Black crucifix on right forearm c) small Hobbes on left shoulder blade d) large crucifix on left shoulder, and e) large tribal dragon on left calf. The last one needs a touch up. I've debated on getting other, too, like a band of tribal elephants around an ankle or some other large-ish design on my back.
3) I think a degree of 'fairness' should be highest priority, though it is an abstract term. I think the most important thing is whether a person would be a good judge/justice. Whether they are a minority is/should be irrelavant, though it would be a good way to score some political brownie points. OTOH, he's a lame duck President who doesn't have to worry about re-election.
4) Not having kids, or a cell phone myself, this is a tough question. I would say that it should be used as a reward. Like the TV and the Internet, it's a priviledge, not a right, so if the kid screws up, take it away. However, I think when kids get older and start dating/hanging out with friends, then maybe it would be a good idea. I don't want a cell phone myself, but if I ever have kids, that would change because I would want them to be able to reach me if they need help.
First time visitor! I posted my response on my blog. Thanks for the good questions.
