FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1: When eating in a sit-down restaurant, do you refer back to your menu when a waiter or waitress comes back to take your order? In other words, after you've closed your menu (which for most people is a way of indicating to the waitstaff that they're ready to order), do you reopen and refer back to your menu when ordering, or do you not need to do that?

Q2: Do you read more, less, or the about same amount blog-related content today as you did one year ago?

Q3: What's the temperature like in your office/place of work? If you're not comfortable with the temperature, what have you done--or what could you try to do--to do something about it, or does indoor temperature not matter all that much to you?

Q4: Have you ever placed a classified advertisement in a newspaper? If so, what did you advertise?

1. Sometimes I refer back to the menu. It really depends on the level of language sophistication used in naming the item I've chosen to order. That can also be said another way, if the item is in another languge, you betcha!

2. I read a bit less b/c I have less time available for blog reading. My schedule has also become more 'typical,' meaning that my 7a-8a work start time doesn't afford me the long breakfasts and reading sessions I used to take when I could show up at 11a.

3. I would say it is reasonable for the most part. In the afternoons it tends to warm up more than I'd like. My temperature regulation has thus far only been in the form of rolling up my sleeves.

4. I've never placed a classsified ad in the newspaper, but I have on Craigslist. I've placed furniture and personal ads.

(1) I close the menu (to indicate that I'm ready to order), and re-open it when the server comes, because I have forgotten what I ordered. Sometimes, I will so completely forget what I ordered that I will have to open the menu and remake my decision over the course of a couple of seconds.

(2) With Bloglines, I read more widely, but not as deeply. I don't comment as much as I used to, the sine qua non of a true blogger.

(3) I'm cold more than I'm warm, but I don't have a portable heater, as some of my colleagues do. I'm satisfied. However, the man who has forgotten more about this building than I'll ever know is retiring soon, so my answer might change radically.

(4) I must have at some point, but I can't remember it right now.

1. I reopen my menu. I’m always afraid that I’m going to forget or order the wrong thing.

2. More.

3. For the first time in 15 years, I’m very comfortable in my office. This is the 7th office I’ve had at my current workplace. All the others were either too cold or too hot.

4.Yes. Garage sales. A car.

1. I usually re-open the menu, but not if it's at a place where I often eat and order the same thing.

2. I think I read more blogs now, than I did one year ago.

3. My office is ICE COLD. The air is constantly blowing out of the vents and the temperature can only be switched by the "maintenance man". The thermostat has a locked box covering. I always bring a sweater because I am always cold. It's the middle of summer, so that means the air must be blasted to Arctic temps. I hate to be cold in the summer.

4. Yes. Twice during high school and college, I placed an ad for a summer job as a babysitter. I got a lot of calls.

Fun questions. My responses are on my blog.

1. It depends. What language is the menu in?

2. More. Lots more. Lots, lots more.

3. If freaking freezing where I work. But when I complain I get told to either 1) put on a sweater, 2) gain some weight like the rest of us, or 3) stop complaining and get back to butshering that dead cow. Just kidding about number 3. Really, I have low blood pressure and I'm always cold. But really, my one manager is having hot flashes and keeps the place like an ice box.

4. Yes. A free washing machine. It was gone before the paper ever came out. Someone in the classifieds department came and took it. She didn't charge me for the ad.

Holy cow...my spelling stinks. That's "butchering"...I guess the joke is over now.

1. I refer back to the menu, and sometimes change my order. Weird.
2. Unfortunately, less, because of time constraints.
3. At work it is consistently too warm for me. Fortunate for me I can telework many of the days.
4. I think I did once, MANY years ago, but I don't remember what I was selling. Probably something from the basement.

Q1: I try not to refer back to the menu, but when the waitstaff takes an unusually long time to come back for the order, sometimes I have no choice (at my age, short-term memory isn't what it used to be :-)

Q2: One year ago today, almost all of my reading was done via blogs. Now-a-days, I'd say I read about half as much blog-related content.

Q3: Since I currently work from home, the temperature isn't an issue. In the past, I've worked in offices that were both overly cold and hot, and in each case it took a pretty big effort to get everyone on the same page.

Q4: I've placed classified advertisements in the paper for rooms I had available for rent in my condo back in Boulder.
