FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1: Would you be willing to cut off all communication with everyone in your immediate family for one year if it meant by doing so you'd be saving the lives of 10 innocent people whom you do not know? If your answer is no, what if the scenario changed, and instead of 10 people, your action would save the lives of 100 of 1,000 complete strangers?

Q2: How often do you wash your hair?

Q3: Last night, in a nationally-televised address carried by all four major television networks here in the U.S., President George W. Bush promised a massive federal effort aimed at rebuilding the lives, levees, and communities along Louisiana's, Mississippi's, and Alabama's Gulf Coast. In your opinion, should the city of New Orleans be rebuilt in its current location?

Q4: What, if anything, is on the outside of your refrigerator?

If it only involved not communicating with my family, probably yes. But if it involved moving and job relocation, like a witness protection program, probably not.

Daily

As I mentioned before, I think that they should make it into a national park and just fix up the French Quarter making that into a national historic landmark.
I also think that all along the Gulf coast they should make that into a national seashore like they are doing on Cape Cod. There you can transfer the property in your family but you can only sell it to the government.

A whole mess of magnets holding appointment cards, post-it reminders, a calendar and MOST importantly, the phone numbers to the local take-out reataurants.

1. I don't think so. A year in the life of a 4 year old and a 2 year old make a big difference. I could not give up a year with my kids for 10 strangers. 1000? Tougher to say no, but the answer would still be yes. Now, if my kids were older, it would be a different ballgame and my answer might well be different. It would depend on my relationship with my kids.

2. Every other day.

3. No; not in the same location. In times of such massive deficits, you have to make tough choices. We have to spend money to finish reconstructing Iraq -- to desert them now would be highly irresponsible, immoral, and have dire consequences in the future. We obviously also have to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina; but to rebuild below sea level just isn't smart. I think Diana's suggestions are GREAT, and was glad to see someone thinking of alternatives that preserve some of the flavor of New Orleans, and they great diversity, rich cultural history that was born and bread there.

4. Pictures, pictures, and more pictures. Magnets.
A drawing my daughter made.

Ugh. I meant, "bred" there. Not bread. Sheesh.

1. No, I don't think so. An aging parent and various other relatives as well as young nieces and nephews pretty much seal the deal for me.

2. Daily.

3. Of curse they should rebuild. They should first take a trip to The Netherlands to see how they've managed to build their levees to hold back storms that can be every bit as fierce as Katrina. Little George probably won't though. It would be a blow to his fragile manhood to take advice from... europeans!

4. lots of magnets, a few pictures from my nephew Jack, and a set of Christmas-themed potholders (don't laugh, they're the only ones I own).

1. Yes, as long as my family knows ahead of time that they won't be hearing from me for a while.

2. At least every other day.

3. Rebuild the entire city at the same location? I don't think so. But definitely save the historic places.

4. Some refrigerator magnets.

I got my answers up.

1) What a strange question. I would do it, although I would like the chance beforehand to tell my family what's up. However, if it wasn't an option, I like to think I would do it

2) Daily.

3) I can't think of moving an entire city - a major city - so I think it should be rebuilt where it is. I do think they should work on a better levee system, maybe like the Zuiderzee works in Holland.

4) The rest of my apartment? Magnets, a bottle opener, and a couple of recipes.

1. I think it would be extremely hard to cut off communication with the people I love. I'm not sure I could do it. I'd like to save those other people's lives, but it's a tough decision. A lot can happen in a family over a year, I wouldn't want to miss that part of MY life.

2. Every other day. It doesn't need washing everyday.

3. I don't see how it can't be rebuilt in it's original location-otherwise it wouldn't be New Orleans. If there is some way they can rebuild so homes and businesses and roads can be protected against another flood/hurricane, that would be ideal. I'm sure the city will return to it's former glory, just a bit changed.

4. Magnets, coupons, family photos, a list.
