'EITHER OR AND WHY' #1
"Choice", we're told, is the mental side of the thinking that goes into the process of judging the merits of multiple options, and then selecting one or more for action. A simple example can involve deciding whether to get up in the morning or go back to sleep, while a more complicated one is deciding what to order at The Cheesecake Factory (have you seen the size of that menu).
Most people generally regard having choices as a good thing, which is exactly what I'm hoping you'll think. Once a week I'll do my best to post ten or so 'either ors' for you to choose from. I've been playing a spontaneous version of "either or?" in the car, in restaurants, and before the start of movies for years. If you decide to join in on the fun, you have two options:
Option One: Post your answers here on my site by clicking on the 'comments' button below. Anonymous submissions always welcomed.
Option Two: Copy and paste the code that appears at the end of this post to your own blog. If choosing this option, please credit Belicove.com as the originator.
You choose... Either Or And Why?
- Cats or Dogs?
- Beer or Wine?
- Sunday Paper: In bed or On the couch?
- Baked Potatoes or Mashed Potatoes?
- Target or Wal-Mart?
- Rain or Snow?
- Board Games or Computer Games?
- Friday Nights or Saturday Mornings?
- Land Line or Cell Phone?
- Elevators or Escalators?
If you would like to post this week's 'Either Or And Why' on your own blog, simply copy and paste the following code into your blog's content management system (with an appropriate reference/credit back to Belicove.com):

Very nice!
I've posted my answers here:

1. Cats. Easier to leave at home when you leave home.
2. Wine, generally, but it really depends on the beer and the wine and how I feel at the time. I prefer beer on hot days after I've been working or working out. I like wine with meals.
3. Sunday Paper at the kitchen table or a table on the deck. Gotta have a table.
4. BakerÖ portion control.
5. WalmartÖ the cheaper, the better.
6. RainÖ means the temps are warmer. Rain cleanses. Snow gets dirty.
7. Board games. Preferably just put the game away and talk.
8. Friday NightsÖ the prospect of freedom on Saturday morning is liberating.
9. Land lineÖ and if I'm on a land line and the signal is breaking up, you have about a half second to correct the problem before I hang up.
10. Elevators going up, escalators going down. When an elevator is going down, I feel as though it's sucking the soul right out of me.
Cats because I have the bestest cat ever.
Wine because I don't like beer.
Sunday Paper On the couch so I can curl up more comfortably.
Mashed Potatoes because of the gravy.
Target because of politics. Also better selection and higher-quality merchandise.
Snow because it's pretty when it falls.
Board Games because I like the in-person banter.
Saturday Mornings because they have so much potential.
Land Line because I don't have to worry about how many minutes I've used.
Escalators because you usually don't have to wait and it's like being on a little train or something.
Cats or Dogs: Dogs (someday I'd like to have seven of them--each a different size and breed-- living with me under one roof). I'd have a large enough house and back yard to make them all very happy pups. I like cats also.
Beer or Wine: Since all beer pretty much tastes the same to me, I'm going to have to go with Wine. I've tasted some exceptional desert wines, so I know there's a lot of variety in this choice. Beer tends to fill me up, while wine just makes me feel good (except the next morning). In either case, I tend to drink little to none of each.
Baked Potatoes or Mashed Potatoes: Mashed (they're way more fun to play with).
Target or Wal-Mart: Boy, this is a touch one. I like both for differing reasons. Target--especially a newer Target--is a fun and inviting store, while Wal-Mart is just dirt cheap across the board. I'm going to have to go with Wal-Mart. The bargain-hunter in me wins out on this one.
Rain or Snow: Snow, snow, snow... let it snow.
Board Games or Computer Games: Board games. There's nothing quite like a challenging game, complete with a real live face to face.
Friday nights or Saturday mornings: It used to be Friday nights, but as I get older, Saturday mornings hold more promise.
Land Line or Cell Phone: Cell phone. I have not had a land line since the spring of 1998.
Elevators or Escalators: Elevators. Weeeeeee!
1. Cats are easier to take care of, but dogs are more fun. Someday I'd like one of each. Or just a couple of cats.
2. If I had to choose, wine. But really, I don't like either one.
3. On the couch, more comfortable. Although, the table is a better option, I can spread out.
4. MASHED! With butter.
5. Target--much nicer stuff, but Wal-Mart has more to choose from and is cheaper.
6. Rain.
7. Board games. Much more fun and interactive.
8. Friday nights--it's the beginning of the weekend and I can look ahead to two full days off from work.
9. Land line. Much better connection and don't have to worry about using up minutes.
10. Escalators, but only for one story, sometimes I feel like I might fall off. Elevators for higher levels.
Cats or Dogs? CATS.
Beer or Wine? BEER, German or Belgian.
Sunday Paper: In bed or On the couch? COUCH.
Baked Potatoes or Mashed Potatoes? MASHED.
Target or Wal-Mart? TARGET.
Rain or Snow? SNOW.
Board Games or Computer Games? BOARD.
Friday Nights or Saturday Mornings? FRIDAY NIGHTS.
Land Line or Cell Phone? LAND.
Elevators or Escalators? ESCALATORS.
Cats are genetically superior.
Wine tastes like bathroom cleaner.
Bed is for s*x and sleep, nothing else.
Mashed allows for mix-ins.
Target doesn't ruin the planet and lie to me.
Snow isn't as wet or annoying.
Board games are more fun and vintage.
Friday nights are full of promise.
Cell phones annoy the f*ck out of me, and I own one and can say that.
Escalators are more vintage.
1. Dogs. I love dogs, they are great companions, and are snuggly on cold nights.
2. Wine. Beer is nasty.
3. Sunday Paper: On the couch, I never read in bed, the dogs would not allow it!
4. Baked Potatoes. They are better for you.
5. Target. It takes too long to find a parking space at WalMart.
6. Snow? Snow, yay!
7. Board Games or Computer Games. Neither, I'm not a big game player.
8. Saturday Mornings. Sleep in!
9. Land Line.
10. Escalators. I am very claustrophobic.
