FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1 - Holiday: Thanksgiving in the United States is traditionally celebrated with a large meal shared among family and friends. In both Canada and the U.S., it's an important family gathering, with many people often choosing to travel long distances to be with loved ones for the celebration. What did you do on Thanksgiving Day, and, what was on the menu for the big meal?

Q2 - Religion: I keep seeing this bumper sticker that reads, "Jesus Is The Answer!" What do you think the question is?

Q3 - Innovation: What's one invention that would dramatically change your life for the better?

Q4 - Shopping: Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is historically one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year. Many consider Black Friday the "official" beginning to the holiday shopping season. The "black" in the name comes from the accounting practice of using red ink to denote negative values (losses) and black ink to denote positive values (profits). Black Friday is the day when retailers traditionally get back "in the black" after operating "in the red" for the previous months, often by cutting prices considerably. How much of your holiday shopping do you get done on Black Friday? How much do you save for what could be considered 'last minute'?

1. I've typically worked through the T-Day holiday, for the additional money. This year, I don't have anyone to manage, I didn't have the chance to go home to Florida, and I thought that I was going to be picking up my truck from Ft Smith, AR...so, I didn't make any plans and ended up alone smelling my dog's nasty poopwind.

2. The fanatics feel that they need to advertise to get converts. They think that Jesus is the answer to EVERYTHING. What they don't realize is that their faith is the key. They could have faith in cheese, and be just as well off.

3. If I knew, then I would start developing it. Unfortunately, I don't realize a good thing until it is on the market.

4. I've been making holiday presents the last few years, since I've been watching my spending. So...very little gets done on Black Friday. I will typically pick up a few things last minute, however.

1. Weeeellllll....since my youngest daughter came down with the chicken pox (yes, it still happens) we stayed home and I whipped together a dinner of toast, popcorn and jelly beans. Just kidding...a little joke for all you Peanuts fans. No...I happened to have had a large delivery of organic produce the day before and wasto the brim with potatoes, sweet potatoes and all the fixin's. I just had to go out and buy a chicken (you know...to appease the pox gods. And no way were we eating a 14 lb. turkey by ourselves.)

2. Who is Felipe and Matty Alou's brother?

3. A soundproof plexiglass wall between the front and back seats of my minivan.

4. Ahhhh...Black Friday. Current topic on Halushki (scroll down). No, I rarely to never go out on Black Friday unless it's to buy whiskey.

There's something other than last minute shopping?

1. Had dinner at home, it was delicious. And the company was great!

2. No question needed.

3. Teleportation.

4. I confess, I did go out today to shop, but I only went into one store and got what I needed. I'm not done with gift buying, but I got half of it done. Every weekend is going to be nuts from now until 12/24. I think the secret is to shop weeknights between 7:00-9:00 pm while everyone else is at home.

Q1 - Holiday: In addition completing a 5k run/walk benefiting a local charity, I had a nice meal at home with my GF. We had Pumpkin Soup, Salad, Green Beans, Corn, Mashed Potatoes, Tofurkey, and a yummy Coconut Cream Pudding.

Q2 - Religion: While the doubting Thomas in me wants to say "The Opiod of the Masses", I think itís fairer to say "A Guide".

Q3 - Innovation: There are so many un-invented innovations that would dramatically change my life for the better. Two which immediately come to mind are a food replicator (just like the one on The Jetson's), and a tele-transporter (like the one on Star Trek). The food replicator would of course have to be pre-set to prepare healthy foods only (no trans fats, and no partially-hydrogenated oils allowed), while the tele-transporter would make going to and from the gym a snap.

Q4 - Shopping: I have never shopped on Black Friday. All of the media hype surrounding the crowds has prompted me to stay as far away as possible. This year though, for the first time ever, I've started paying more attention to those 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. BF deals, and I don't know if it's that the sales are a lot better this year than in the past, but man oh man, were there some screaming to deals to be had this Black Friday or what!? Next year, depending on where I live, I may just have to get up early and participate in the madness. As for how much I save for the last minute, I'd say about 10 percent.

1. I traveled two hours south to have dinner with family. Turkey and ham were on the menu.

2. Who is the most exploited and misunderstood man in history?

3. A machine which would make me the first successful alchemist.

4. None. Shopping season for me begins on December 23rd.

I skip that day, to many crowds.
