FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1 - Pay E-mail: Starting in April, AOL will charge companies about 1/4 of a cent to send e-mail messages to its users that will bypass the company's filters. E-mails from paying companies will go straight to a user's inbox, while e-mails from non-paying companies will go through a gauntlet of filters that could divert them to a junk-mail folder or strip them of images and links, even if they're not spam. How do you feel about this? Should companies like AOL be able to put policies like these into place because they protect its customers, or pay E-mail a bad idea because it doesn't account for bulk messages sent by not-for-profits or other legitimate groups who cannot afford to pay the price to bypass the system?

Q2 - Weather: Do you check your weather report on a daily basis? Regardless of how often you check, where do you go for information about the weather... newspaper, television, radio, or do you receive your weather reports via the Internet?

Q3 - Sold: What's the last thing you sold (both personally and professionally)?

Q4 - Footwear: How many different pairs of shoes do you own verses how many you actually wear on a regular basis?

Q1 - Pay E-mail: No, I donít think that it is a good idea. It will just be profit for them and there is a way that will not cost us anything. Just have the email address checked, kind of like a return receipt, your computer will ask the senders server, ědid you really send this, do you have an account for this email address?î
Q2 ń Weather: Yes, I mainly get the weather from the local TV stations. If I am traveling then I use the internet, Accuwaether or Weatherunderground.
Q3 - Sold: I canít remember the last time I sold something.
Q4 - Footwear: AhÖ. I think I have over a dozen or so pair of shoes. I wear three or four pairs regularly.

AOL is a boil on the buttocks of humanity! This is just another example of how AOL is out to make money and not serve their customers.

Q2 - Weather: Do you check your weather report on a daily basis? Regardless of how often you check, where do you go for information about the weather... Newspaper, television, radio, or do you receive your weather reports via the Internet?
Typically I hear the weather report on the morning news. Depending on what is going on, I might check it on the Internet.

Q3 - Sold: What's the last thing you sold (both personally and professionally)?
Personally, the last thing I've sold was my last house. Professionally, I think I sell a bit of my soul each day!

Q4 - Footwear: How many different pairs of shoes do you own verses how many you actually wear on a regular basis?
I'm not going to go into my closet and count but I'm sure it's dozens and dozens that I own. I've been weeding them out so I have a lot less than I used to. I have summer shoes and winter shoes. I have work shoes and personal-time shoes. So depending on the season and occasion, I wear different shoes.

1. I think it's a horrible idea. It doesn't protect customers at all, just exposes them to unwanted mail that they are forced to receive by the ISP who's service the customer is paying for. To look at it another way, would it be a good idea for your telephone company to force you to take telemarketing calls if the telemarketer has a similar agreement with your phone carrier? As to non profits or legitimate groups who couldn't afford the charge? If it's a group you're interested in, you can alter filters to ALLOW them. You wouldnt be able to filter out the e-mails that are paid for. Bottom line? If my ISP started doing that, I'd cancel it the next day, which, I imagine, will happen to AOL.

2. I hardly ever check the weather report, but if I do, it's usually over the radio.

3. Personally? Some tea cups on ebay. Professionally? Myself at my last job interview.

4. Regularly wear? Four pair. Own? Eight pair.

Q1- I don't like the idea, personally. I don't think they are trying to protect their customers as much as they are trying to make a quick buck...

Q2- I check the weather everyday. First thing in the morning, I turn the TV on and flip to the Weather Channel for the local report (on the 8's). I just HAVE to have the weekly weather report (even though I am convinced they have little idea of what it will be like past today, and virtually no idea whatsoever beyond two days out.) I also like weather.com.

Q3- I can't remember what I sold last personally, probably old furniture. Professionally, I sell my services as a Virtual Assistant.

Q4- I have 21 pairs of shoes, not counting houseshoes/slippers, etc. I usually get "attached" to two or three pairs and wear them until they can take no more... Except for in the summer. I love sandals, so I wear everything I have in that category.

I posted my answers.

Q1 - Pay E-mail: I don't think any service should be able to charge a fee for e-mail, but I do think that junk mail (from businesses or individuals) should have to carry some sort of indicator that the message is junk, so individuals can readily block unsolicited messages. We should have several classes of e-mail. Something like Advertisement, Chain Letter, Joke, Personal, Business, so individuals can have more control over what they receive.

Q2 - Weather: I check the weather daily by looking out the window and then check it once or twice a week for the 5-day forecast. Usually use the newspaper or weather.com but sometimes I catch the report on TV.

Q3 - Sold: My house.

Q4 - Footwear: I own about 5 pairs of shoes--two pairs for dressing up, two pairs for running (one pair is near retirement), and a pair of hiking boots.

1. Ahhh, AOL. AOL's existence and success reminds me of the quote "Let us be thankful for the fools, but for them none of us could succeed". Sounds like bribary but really I don't think their policy is significant.
2.I mostly monitor the weather by what I see out my window or when I walk outside. Weather reports are common on t.v. and radio so I hear tidbits from those channels as well.
3.Sold...I cannot recall the last thing. I have sold vintage bicycles on E-Bay and other items there.
4. I count 16 pairs of shoes and 4 pairs of flippers.
