FOUR FOR FRIDAY + 1
Q1 - Possessions: Do you think that the more stuff you own enhances your life or adds to your burden?
Q2 - Oil: If OPEC decided to turn off the oil spigot, do you think that the United States would have the right to wage war to protect its interests?
Q3 - Movie: Have you seen the movie Ellie Parker with Naomi Watts? If so, would you recommend it to a friend?
Q4 - Birthday: What are the maximum number of days someone should spend celebrating his/her birthday?
Bonus Question...
Q5 - Dancing: How often do you dance... and I don't mean just boogying to your favorite tunes inside your car or in the shower. We're talking real dancing here, with a partner on a dance floor (weddings count).

Q1 - Possessions: The more stuff I own, the less free I feel. All that stuff costs money and requires storage and maintenance, which costs even more time and money. The more stuff I accumulate, the more I begin to feel as though I'm living to be a caretaker of this stuff.
Q2 - Oil: I don't think we'd have the right to wage war, but I do believe that we would find war necessary if a brief attempt at a diplomatic solution didn't work. Our society is so dependent on oil for its survival, that I think we'd all turn into savages without it. Food, water, and heating fuel would all become scarce commodities, and no matter how much we consider ourselves to be civilized, when supplies dry up, the first thing to go is civility.
Q3 - Movie: Ellie Parker is the worst movie I've ever had the displeasure of viewing, and I saw Ishtar.
Q4 - Birthday: One day. Celebrate on your birthday or pick one day near your birthday to celebrate it. I know people who carry on for over a week about their birthdays. Your birthday is no great personal achievement. If anything, it's a personal achievement for your mom, so give your mom a present on your birthday.
Bonus Question...
Q5 - I dance once, maybe twice a year with my wife. She's a great dancer.
1. I have too much stuff and I want to get rid of the things I don't ever use. I feel it weighs me down and "owns" me. But it's hard to let go.
2. I don't think the U.S. should wage war, but find a solution to get it. Not sure the gov't would use peacful means in any event.
3. No, haven't seen it.
4. Celebrate your birthday however you want to. It's good to celebrate your life, everyday. I agree, we should recognize our parents on our birthdays, too.
Bonus: Hardly ever. If I'm at a wedding I dance, but I haven't been to one in years.
1. Possessions. Both enhances and detracts. I take comfort in stuff, but then I feel suffocated by all the things on places. Where did my surfaces go?
2. OPEC war: I fall into a coma thinking about it.
3. Ellie Parker: haven't heard of it or seen it.
4. Birthday celebrations: one day or two if one is the "actual" birthday and a second weekend day is needed to go out and do some fun night-on-the-town bidness.
5. ZERO dancing other than at home in my jammies.
and re last week's question about the book club, (i wasn't able to get in and post an answer last week for reasons i couldn't understand):
I recently enjoyed Jay McInerney's "The Good Life" about fraying relationships in NYC after 9/11. Not everybody's cup of tea but I liked it.
Trackbacks are still down, so head on over to http://senorpez.com/archives/2006/04/28/553/ to see the answers.
1. I don't own much stuff. But, if I did I would have a boat. On that boat I would have a lot of cool stuff. Like a flat screen tv and an x-box 360. But, it would be a huge burden owning that boat. You know storage fees, taxes, staffing a crew etc... So, I guess it would be a burden.
2. The U.S. should just wage war on everyone. That way we won't have any enemies. Yup, that would really make a lot of sense. In all seriousness we should all learn to use less oil as it is. For instance, don't give up buying a super-size fries just to get an extra gallon. Instead, just quit using so much gas and get a super-size fry and a frosty. Does that make sense?
3. No, but Muholland Drive is better.
4. You can celebrate your birthday if no one remembers. But, you get extra days for celebrating milestone birthdays such as your 40th and 16th, 18th and 21st.
5. Electric slide every wedding.
1. To an extent posessions do enhance your life, but at some point the stuff begins to own you and becomes a burden instead. Then again, I've never understood people who live by the motto "The one who dies with the most toys, wins."
2. I don't think we would have the right to wage war. Would we? Yes, especially if the government continues with the mindset of the current administration.
3. Haven't seen it. Haven't heard of it before just now, either.
4. One, but Two is permissable if the celebration needs to be postponed to a weekend.
5. Oh heck... not nearly often enough. I need to get out more.
My answers are posted here: http://dianacorner.blogspot.com/
1. The more I own, the more I have to worry about. The more I have to clean. The more space I need for my stuff.
2. No. No. No. Oh yeah...and no. We've gotten ourselves into this gluttony of oil. We're fat all around. A little literal and figurative walking would be good for the soul and for the planet. Famine happens to be a real downer, but again, who doesn't need a diet?
3. No. I'd recommend a friend watch it and then tell me whether I should spend time seeing it.
4. Who am I to say? 365 for me.
5. Dancing. I don't do it enough. However, my husband has two left feet and I have two left hands, so it's not very pleasing to watch in any event.
