FOUR FOR FRIDAY
Q1 - Actors & Actresses: Will you go out of your way to avoid watching a particular movie just because it features an actor or actress you do not like? What if the movie in question also features an actor or actress you do like?
Q2 - Established Customs: Good habits like bad ones are habit forming. What's one habit you'd like to break?
Q3 - Nuestro Himno: By now, everyone probably knows that "Nuestro Himno" is the Spanish language version of "The Star-Spangled Banner," and that U.S. President George W. Bush recently stated that he feels that the national anthem should be sung in English only. Despite the fact that the U.S. State Department's own web site features four Spanish language versions of "The Star-Spangled Banner," do you feel that the national anthem should be sung in English only?
Q4 - Driving Age: Do you feel your state's age requirement for receiving a driver's licenses is appropriate as is, should be lowered, or should be raised?

Q1 - Actors & Actresses: While there are generally some actors and actresses whose work I do not appreciate (think Leonardo DiCaprio and Fran Drescher), eventually, I'll probably end up seeing their films. My dislike for them however would not keep me out of the theatre if I thought, despite their performances, a flick could be a good one, especially if I know the content or like another performer.
Q2 - Established Customs: I wish I could break this habit I have of falling in love with one shirt, sweater, or pair of pants, and then wearing it death.
Q3 - Nuestro Himno: Let em sing, I say. What difference does it make if it's in English, Spanish, or Swahili. None; none whatsoever, in my humble opinion. "I Love You" means the same thing in any language, and so to do the words to a song, and that goes for any song.
Q4 - Driving Age: Since I chose not to get a driver's license until just four years ago (when I was 36), I'm really not one to talk. But in general, I feel the roads would be a lot less crowded, and alternative forms of transportation which I favor--like bikes and busses--would be put to better use, and I'd be all for that if the minimum age were increased by one, two or three years.
1. I'll see a movie if I'm interested in it. If it stars actors I like, so much the better. I wouldn't refuse to go to a movie just because there was someone I disliked in it.
2. Staying home rather than going out and doing things/meeting people.
3. Well, it's a nightmare of a song for most people to sing in the first place, so I"m rather impressed that anyone would bother translating it. Since we as a country do not have an official language, it's kind of pointless to insist that the anthem has to have a official language, isn't it?
4. I don't think it should be lowered from 16 1/2, but unless it's raised to say, 21, I honestly don't think that the "extra maturity" would make a difference in accident rates and such or change the number of cars on the road. The kids'll swap their bikes, skateboards and bus passes for a car as soon as they're of age, so at least in comparatively low population density midwestern cities the inevitable is just delayed by a couple years.

1. It depends on the movie, if it looks good in previews, I'll watch it. I really don't have a favorite actor.
2. I'd like to break my habit of allowing fear to control some of my decisions.
3. It's hard to say, on one hand this is a country built (taken over) by immigrants, all of whom came from different places with different languages. Being that the official language in the U.S. is English, then yes, the National Anthem should be sung in English. That doesn't mean people can't sing it in Spanish, but overall, I say stick with English.
4. No, it should not be lowered. Right now you have to be 16 to get a drivers license in my state, and I think that's too young. I say raise to 17 or 18, it gives kids more time to mature before they take on such a huge responsibility.
Movies: I do go out of my way to avoid movies with performers I don't care for. Usually part of the not-caring-for-them thing tends to go hand-in-hand with the movie choices those actors make.
Habits: Would like to ixnay drinking.
National anthem: I think the whole discussion is unseemly. Of course people should be allowed to SING, for pete's sakes, whatever they want in whatever language they want. They're singing.
Driver's Licenses: I think the age here is 16 and the 16-year olds around here are pretty much nitwits so I wouldn't mind them needing to wait an additional year and learning to take buses or use their legs or bikes.
1. Yes. The actors and actresses I do like would generally never work with Tom Cruise.
2. Cutting my fingernails too short.
3. I don't have a strong opinion on this either way, but yes, I tend to believe that the National Anthem should be sung in the official language of the U.S. I know this is a nation built by immigrants, but immigrants of the past seemed quicker to learn English. I know that my German and Lithuanian relatives would never speak either language in public, or even at home when guests were over, because they considered it rude.
4. It certainly shouldn't be lowered, but I don't know that raising it by a few years would help, either. It seems to be like a better way to decrease traffic accidents/fatalities would be to make illegal cell phone use and drive-thru windows/eating while driving.
1. I would try to avoid.
2. smoking.
3. could be Spanish too.
4. is appropriate to the holder at least.
