FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1 - Politics: A recent poll conducted by CNN revealed that Republicans favor former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008, while Democrats are looking toward U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton as their nominee. Looking ahead to 2008, do you feel you will pleased or disappointed with the person elected President of the United States?

Q2 - High School: Who were you in high school: a jock, prep, dork, geek, motor head, nerd, druggie, punk, straightedge, brainiac, suck-up, a/v cart pusher, teacher's pet, slacker, club member, etc.?

Q3 - Roadside Attraction: If you were given free reign to create a roadside attraction, what would you create?

Q4 - 9/11: Do you agree with the oft-repeated line that "9/11 changed everything"?

1. Politics. I'll be disappointed because I have no faith in politicians to actually solve most problems, no matter what party, no matter who.

2. High School. Brainiac. I was a member of the B.A.D. - Burley Academic Decathalon. Enough said.

3. Roadside Attraction. I'd sell Idaho potatoes from the back of my car. Clowns, etc. will be involved.

4. 9/11. Yes I agree with it, because it changed us to a hyper-reactionary country. It made us stupid. Somebody needs to pull their heads out and be smart about stuff.

1. Eh. Whoever they choose, there will always be someone better.

2. A geek and a nerd. Come to think of it, I'm still a geek and a nerd.

3. A zoo of giant bacteria. I'll start with everyone's favorite workhorse E. coli and go from there.

4. No. I mean, sure, the political climate and how things work at an airport changed--but day-to-day life? A lot of things are still the same.

1. I'll be pleased if it's Hillary OR Rudy. I'll campaign for Hillary, though. (Hell, I am already!)
2. I was a brainiac and club member - in a small rural town. My acceptance to Brown made the front page of the weekly paper. I have some high school award plaques on my office wall. (In deference to Mikal, I, too, have a framed copy of a "life's work" letter he wrote to me in 1999.
3. I'd make mini-Smithsonian Museums into roadside attrations. This way, we'd learn a bit more.
4. I do not agree. My answer is an emphatic "No!" Politicians, media & the general public made too much of this for too long. Many more people die every day, week, month, year here in the US and abroad. Catastrophe seems to make death more outrageous. All death is bad, even if it's caused "only" by economic displacement, poverty, malnutrition, or ethnic cleansing.

1. I will be neither pleased nor disappointed. I often feel that the President is a figurehead. We seemed to get along fine when we had no president at all for several months (the Florida ballot fiasco). But as a Republican I favor the moderate conservatives John McCain or Mitt Romney.

2. I guess I was a slacker. Rather than actually do much work, I just worked the system in order to graduate. Maybe I ought to run for president?

3. Undressed monkeys. (tried to use the word that starts with an "n" that means to not have any clothes on, but the naughty filter busted me)

4. For some people it did. For me? I would have boarded a plane the day after without any concern. And had I not been in my motorcycle accident, I probably would have reenlisted. But that's not a change for me.

5. Usually while I'm on the toilet.

Oops! Sorry, didn't see that you deleted question five. Doh!

1) If we nominate Hillary Leiberman, let's just go ahead and sign over the election to the Republicans right now.

2) I was a cool dork club member teachers pet straight edge.

3) I would create a 9 story tall semi-colon; there is always more to say.

4) 9/11 changed only the level hysteria... i don't feel any safer, and much of our energy has been wasted on a narrow agenda... waste of our enormous resources (military, etc). Our reaction abroad has only galvanized the hatred towards us while alienating just about every other country. Meanwhile our ports are a free pass, 50 million uninsured, the gulf coast is still in shambles...

1) Given those choices there's no GOOD solution. :)

2) I dunno... I was friends with ALL those peopel... Perhaps "Choir Boy" :)

3) I'd allow people to gather and watch while a random car is selected from time to time. The driver will be hunted until he either escapes the maze... or dies.

4) Yes. Absolutely.

Q1 - Politics: If Hillary Rodham Clinton is elected, which I highly doubt will happen, I will be very disappointed. I think she's a self-serving, arrogant control freak.

Q2 - High School: Yes, except for the motor head and druggie part. I was also a bit of a Jesus freak.

Q3 - Roadside Attraction: A mosaic, where people could glue tiles to a huge building and various objects strewn about the landscape. I would live in the house with my spouse... a spouse in the house.

Q4 - 9/11: Yeah, now I can't watch TV without hearing about it.

1. As long as it's not another president like the one we have now. I don't know if we'll ever have any one really "good" in the next election. I agree with Jerry, if Hillary is nominated for the Democratic party, the Republicans will win again, unfortunately.

2. I was the quiet, non-trouble-maker, straight-edge. But looking back, I wished I'd been a bit more raucous.

3. A photo tree. Everyone who drives by has to leave their photo on the "tree". And they can be as creative as they want with their photo.

4. I don't know if it changed everything, and I'm sick of hearing about the "wake-up call". As tragic as it was, there are tragedies happening every day in this country that go unnoticed. I don't see anyone saying that Hurricane Katrina's aftermath "changed everything". And that was just as horrible. I agree with Lee on this one.
