FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1 - Law Enforcement: Generally speaking, do you trust the police? How about the police in your town?

Q2 - Equestrian: Have you ever ridden a horse? If so, do you remember his or her name? If not, and if you were asked to name someone else's horse, what would name it?

Q3 - Cameras: Do you think it's a good or bad idea to allow cameras in courtrooms?

Q4 - Break-ins: Has your car or home ever been broken into? If so, what was stolen and was any of it ever recovered?

1. I think most cops are decent and honorable folks who do a decent and honorable job. However, there are cops who, regrettably, are not decent and honorable or who sometimes do not do the decent or honorable thing. I've been arrested a few times and spent time in prison, but my attitude really has not changed over the years even because of this. I do think the law enforcement community plays the adversarial role it is structurally intended to do (for good or bad, probaly more bad than good) along with prosecutors.
2. Yes, I've ridden a number of horses. My favorite was a painted stallion we had in junior high named Blaze.
3. I think cameras in court rooms are a GREAT idea. In fact, it borders on a crime (creating a closed society) not to allow or mandate cameras in all court rooms.
4. Yes, my apartment in Providence was broken into once. All my electronics (and my blender!) were taken. Despite the police report I filed, nothing was recovered.

Q1 - Trust the police? Yes, I do. I usually trust everyone until they give me some reason not to trust them, and I've generally had positive experiences with police. The only trouble I experienced was when I was hitchhiking back in the early '80's. The police were constantly hassling me and often offering to drive me out of their town or county. I didn't mind... hey, a ride's a ride, and they never roughed me up or searched me.

Q2 - Ever ridden a horse? Yep, asked her name, too, but she didn't answer. If I had a horse, I'd name her Wilbur... Thelma if the horse were male.

Q3 - Cameras in courtrooms? Bad idea. You're pretty much already convicted by the general public as soon as you come under suspicion... even without cameras, your name and reputation can be ruined. Cameras would only make it worse by plastering your face all over the news. "Innocent till proven guilty" means to me that your innocence and privacy should be protected as much as possible throughout the trial.

Q4 - Car or home break-ins? I had a radio ripped off when my car was at the dealership for service. The dealer installed a new radio at no charge. Been lucky otherwise. Now, if you're talking vandalism, I have had problems with lawn jobs--kids in cars spinning out on my lawn--but I could never catch the perpetrators in the act. The grass was never recovered, but it did grow back.

1. I don't trust them any less than I trust the average stranger on the street, but I guess that's not saying alot. The ones here in Indianapolis are marginally better than the worthless and lazy cops in my hometown I guess.

2. I've ridden horses when I was a kid at camp, then again in Aruba and Belize, but ti's nto something I do otherwise.

3. Niether good nor bad. It has the potential to sensationalize the proceedings, but as lon as it's not abused, I don't see the problem.

4. My apartment was broken into several years ago. They got a three-week-old computer and peripherals, 500 cd's, some sterling silver and a set of 400 thread count bedsheets. I can only assume that they took them off the bed to haul away the loot. None of it was ever recovered (see the above comment about my hometown police). Thank goodness for renter's insurance is all I can say.

1. In general I'm okay with the police. It's good to know they are around to enforce the law, although there are some "bad" cops out there, over all I'm okay with them. In my town there isn't a lot going on crime-wise (thankfully)so whenever there's an accident, disturbance, or something involving the police - at least 6 cop cars arrive at the scene.

2. No, I have never ridden a horse, nor even sat on one. I'm not sure what I'd name the horse because it depends on what it looks like. But it would have to be a strong name for such a large, beautiful beast.

3. I don't think cameras need to be in the courtroom. Too much sensationalism.

4. My sister's car was broken into about 7 years ago. Somehow they got in and stole the radio - ripped it right out. The next morning I went out to get in the car and I noticed the door wasn't closed all the way. On further inspection I noticed the radio was gone and some things were moved around inside the car. It was such an eerie feeling to be violated like that. THEN I called the POLICE (but only one guy showed up).

Q1 - Law Enforcement: Generally speaking, do you trust the police? How about the police in your town?
I definately trust Police. I live in Australia and I think they're very admirable.
Q2 - Equestrian: Have you ever ridden a horse? If so, do you remember his or her name? If not, and if you were asked to name someone else's horse, what would name it?
Yes I have ridden horses on occasions. I can't remember any of their names. I'd probably name a horse something relating to Lord of the Rings like Arwen or Viggo or Orlando.
Q3 - Cameras: Do you think it's a good or bad idea to allow cameras in courtrooms?
Bad idea, just because it should stay the way it always has been.
Q4 - Break-ins: Has your car or home ever been broken into? If so, what was stolen and was any of it ever recovered?
No, neither thank the Lord.

Hi, Mikal.
I don't have time to answer the questions, but I see you've joined the land of the blogging again. So, where have you been? And, what are you up to? Are you going to post anything about it? Did you get a horse? What's the weather like where you are?
Anyway.
