FOUR FOR FRIDAY
Q1 - Jewelry: Aside from an engagement ring and/or wedding band, is there a particular piece of jewelry that you wear all the time or most of the time? If so, what is it, who gave it to you, and how long have you had it?
Q2 - Education: Do you think an undergraduate degree from an elite private college like Harvard, Princeton, or Stanford is worth the cost?
Q3 - Movies: School for Scoundrels, The Science of Sleep, The Guardian, Employee of the Month, Man of the Year, Little Children, Driving Lessons, All the King's Men, The Departed, Marie Antoinette, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, A Good Year, Stranger Than Fiction, Open Season, Fast Food Nation, The Pursuit of Happyness, Deck the Halls, etc. Which movies are you most looking forward to seeing this fall?
Q4 - Music: What's the last song you downloaded from the Internet? If you've never downloaded music, what was the last CD you purchased from a store?

1: In addition to my wedding ring set, I always wear earrings, and I usually forget to change them; gold hoops 90% of the time. If I'm feeling the need to be fashionable and I own jewelry that matches an outfit, I might switch. But that's it.
2: I guess it depends on who the degree is for. I grew up in a working middle-class neighborhood in a small town in Wisconsin, and going to a Big Ten university was great. But if you're coming from wealth, etc. it might be worth it not because of the value of the education but b/c of the value it gives to one's self-worth.
3: I have two small kids. I don't get out to see many movies! If I do, I'd love to see "An Inconvenient Truth" and "Last Kiss" (I'm a big Zach Braff fan.)
4: I think the last song I downloaded was "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree" by KT Tunstall. Either that or "Only One" by James Taylor (kick a$$ love song, right there). But I can definitely tell you the last two CDs I bought, about 4 - 6 weeks ago at the same time: In Between Dreams by Jack Johnson (seriously, this music is awesome), and "Taking the Long Way" by Dixie Chics. Two seriously talented musician (or ensemble in the case of the DC).
1. I don't really wear any jewelry at all. However, for a time I used to wear a highly stylish Brown University watch, which leads me to the 2nd FFF question.
2. As an Ivy League alum, I do believe it is worth it - even if I'm still paying off student debt.
3. I'd like to see "All the King's Men," "Fast Food Nation," and "Marie Antoinette," who famously quoted but not did coin the insular expression, "Let them eat cake!"
4. I buy my Brown alumn friend Lili Haydn's music online all the time and have ever since her 2004 "Light Blue Sky" CD. Her new CD and single, "Memory One," are out this month at www.lilihaydn.com.

Q1 - Jewelry: Why rule out wedding bands? My dad gave me his, and I will treasure it forever. However, I also wear a spin ring--two cores, the outside spins, and I like to spin it, although I must've jammed it, and now it's oblong and doesn't spin quite as freely as it once did. I bought it at the Silver Witch in Fort Myers Beach. Best silver jewelry collection you'll ever see.
Q2 - Education: Yes, because of the high-level connections you can make and because I think you get a more balanced education... not simply job training.
Q3 - Movies: Running with Scissors. Is that due out this fall?
Q4 - Music: Bruce Springsteen's Seeger Collection is incredible, but one of my family members has misplaced the CD... or stolen it. Argggghhhh!
1. I always wear three rings: two on my left middle finger, and one on my right ring finger. One of the first two, I purchased years ago, I think maybe during high school and have never taken it off; the other is a silver band with black inlay with a Hopi design. The third ring is a garnet stone set in silver, which I designed myself and received as a gift from my sister for my 25th birthday. I do take this one and the Hopi ring off each night before bed. I only wear silver jewelry, (and maybe white gold or platinum, someday).
2. I guess if you are into the status of having gone to an Ivy League school, it might be worth it, but really, any decent school will give you a good education. So why pay a zillion dollars if you don't have to? Although, I think Harvard and Yale have some kind of new tuition policy where some kids can go for free. Not sure exactly. I think if you are going to have a big career and the diploma from one of those schools will help further your career, then go for it.
3. Tonight I am going to see "The Last Kiss". Zach Braff is in it, so it will probably be good.
4. Haven't downloaded any music lately, but I did purchase a new CD, something I haven't done in a long time. I got "Continuum", by John Mayer.
Jewelry - I just wear a wedding ring. I used to wear an earring, and I used to wear a watch, but now wearing anything other than a ring just annoys me.
Elite Private Colleges - I think that the networking aspect of any school is among the most important things kids get on graduation day. Doesn't matter if it's USC or Dartmouth or South Dakota State, if you ask me. So, to answer the question, I'd say I guess it's worth it for people who can easily afford it. Not sure if it's worth taking out 25 yrs of debt, though.
Upcoming movies - I've only heard of like 2 of the movies you listed. All I'm excited about is Little Miss Sunshine and I think "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle" may have arrived today from Netflix...
Downloaded music - Buckcherry's "Crazy Bitch" and, I'm sorry to say, Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone" are my most recent iTunes buys.
1 - Jewels: I've never been able to stand wearing jewelry much. My dog tags never bothered me... does that count? Anyway, after getting booted, don't wear that anymore either. At some point, I couldn't handle wearing even my wedding ring anymore.
2 - Edu: Like most things, I suppose it depends on what you make of it. I know two people with graduate degrees from Harvard (MBA). One went to work in an entry level CSR position at eBay, and now does MLM. The other also went to work at eBay... as the CEO.
3 - Moving Pictures: I'm a sucker for war movies, and have been waiting a long time for a new WWI flick... Flyboys for me.
4 - Muzak: How to Save a Life by The Fray.
1. A silver pentagram on a long silver chain. I bought it from capricornslair.com and love it. Also a silver AIDS bracelet from "Until There's a Cure" which I wear almost every day. I've had it for about ten years.
2. It is still a rich kid world there. College is what you make of it yourself, I guess.
3. Fast Food Nation--I loved the book.
4. Last download was a bunch of Georgia Satellite's old stuff. Last CD purchased was Patterson Hood's "Killers and Stars" album.
I'm terribly late at answering these questions, but here I go:
1) I wear two pairs of silver earrings all the time. I do not change them often--mostly because I forget.
2) I think it depends on the student. Are you willing to work hard enough at an elite college to make your education there worth it? I have gone to elite schools, but it was really less about where I got my degree than in what lab I worked in and what work I did.
3) What movies? I'm currently totally out of the loop of popular culture.
4) I last borrowed Philip Glass's Symphony No.2 from the library. Some parts of it are totally wack. When he's attempting some happy melodies, it just sounds like he's been composing while on ritalin.
