FOUR FOR FRIDAY
Q1 - Holiday Decorations: We have a lot of 'holidays' here in the U.S., including New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Do you ever decorate your home or office space for a holiday? If so, which ones, and how far do you go with your decorating?
Q2 - Birth: Were you born in a hospital or somewhere else?
Q3 - Shoes: Do you wear shoes inside your home?
Q4 - Congressional Pages: The United States Congress employs approximately 100 teenagers from around the country as pages who serve as messengers and who perform administrative tasks for members of Congress. Would you allow your teenage child to be a Congressional page?

1. I decorate both my home & office for various holidays, religious (Christian) & secular. As a manager & department head at work, I insist on openness and tolerance for diverse views and practices. Fortunately, I've had no problems. I find most public displays of religious/quasi-religious sentiment by governmental units to be unconstitutional, despite its ever-increasing frequency and approval by US courts. This week, I wore the Human Rights Campaign's equal sign (=) to denote the 19th anniversary of National Coming Out Day (the 14th for me!!).
2. I was born in a hospital in Kansas.
3. Yes, I wear shoes inside my home. From time to time, I wear them outside my home, too.
4. I do not have - and do not plan to have - any children. If I did, I certainly would allow them to be Congressional pages. It is an honor and a learning experience. I trust the page system generally & will not let an isolated abuse undermine the program as a whole. The Republican leadership has undermined its credibility and morality with its handling of the Mark Foley/page issue, though.

1. I decorate my ome for christmas with a tree and lights and other stuff--mostly my lovely wife does it.
2. I was born in a hospital on an air force base in Oklahoma, whence I was flown 6 hours later to another hospital in Texas for lung surgery. But I'm fine now (that is, Texas didn't seem to have any long lasting negative effect on me).
3. This depends. My home is where Megan is, and sometimes I wear shoes there, and sometimes not. But usually I don't wear shoes inside our house.
4. I would allow my daughters to serve as congressional pages, if they really wanted to. But I intend that by the time my daughters are old enough to do that, they will be fully competent in repelling the advances of perverts.
1. Halloween and Christmas. Lately I've gotten lazy though. I don't do much for Halloween outside of putting up somethign on my apt door and a couple of things inside like a jack o' lantern and some bobbleheads. My place is too small for a tree, so for christmas I usually just put up a wreath on my door, some lights and dig out some of my fave christmas ornaments to put around the living room.
2. Hospital. My mom just gave me the receipt for the hospital bill. $315.00 Amazing, eh?
3. Not usually, but I I don't take them off until I know that I'm gonna be inside for a while.
4. Yeah, but I think that I'd warn him/her that if they were using it as a way to start a political career, they'd be disowned.
Christmas the tree, lights, and wreaths go up. Halloween I get some pumpkins.
I was born in a hospital about five miles from home.
I usually take my shoes off as soon as I get home. I like to be barefoot in summer and wear slippers in winter.
If my child wanted to work for Congress for the experience I'd let him/her. But who really trusts most politicians and that whole scene anyway? I guess there are sick-o people in every profession.
1. I don't really decorate for any holiday. Except for Christmas.
2. In a hospital. But it doesn't exist any more.
3. No. Shoes track in dirt. And I hate vacuuming.
4. If I had a kid and he/she wanted to, probably although not before hearing a lecture from me.
1 - I decorate somewhat for Chanukah and Halloween. Not a lot, but I've been picking up more decorations and as the kids get older I've been doing more. We also put a flag outside for the 4th of July this year.
2 - I was born in a hospital.
3 - Nope! Shoes come off first thing when I get home. (I won't mention what comes off next. LOL)
4 - I think I would think twice about it but would ultimately let them. I remember being politically active in my more-innocent youth, and it was a wonderful experience. I still believe that no matter how many corrupt people there are up there, the majority of them at least have the decency to not molest children.
Mikal - great blog. We went to college together - do you remember Marjorie Goodman? lol. Good "seeing" you again!
