FOUR FOR FRIDAY
Q1 - Faith: Nearly half of all Americans are not sure God exists, according to a poll that also found divisions among the public on whether God is male or female or whether God has a human form and has control over individual or worldly events. The survey conducted by Harris Poll found that 42 percent of U.S. adults are not "absolutely certain" there is a God compared to 34 percent who felt that way when asked the same question three years ago. What do you think? Does God exist, and if so, do you think God has control over events?
Q2 - Work: Do you socialize with co-workers outside of the office?
Q3 - Holiday Travel: Are you traveling for the upcoming holidays or are you expecting family and friends to come to your home for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas?
Q4 - You Choose: Which would you rather have...a personal assistant or a personal trainer?

1. I can see why people say they aren't absolutely sure. How could you be unless you saw Him yourself... even then, is he just a really powerful alien being or God himself? At any rate, yes I believe. Does he have control over events? Being that He is "all powerful" (as far as our limited understand is concerned) He can control whatever he wants, but has a general policy of non-interference. It's called free agency, and what we're judged by. Without free agency, there's no point to living.
2. I do socialize with a few here at my current job. Some of my best friends are ex-coworkers.
3. I'll be going out to Strawberry Bay Marina (which my sister co-runs) for my side, and heading out to a Cedar City drunk-fest for my wife's side.
4. Hmm... tough one. If I had the time, a trainer. But as things stand now, I'll take the assistant.
1. Not sure, but if god does exist, I feel that we're watched in teh same way that we watch Desperate Housewives. We're an interesting show, but there's not much actual involvement.
2. Not as much at this job as I have at others.
3. I'll drive home, but it's only 40 miles away and I usually make it there every month or already, so it's not that big of a deal.
4. Personal Trainer. I'm notoriously lazy when it comes to fitness.
Q1. I believe that God exists. I think if He wanted to have control events that it would be within His capability. As to whether He does, I don't know that I am certain one way or the other.
Q2. Yes, I do. And have a very good time of it. I am fortunate to have coworkers that I consider friends in any setting.
Q3. I think we're taking a break this year. Meaning, we're staying home. If anyone else would like to see us, they know where we are.
Q4. Personal assistant, hands down.
1) I believe He exists. The fact that He exists... and that He gets an upper case H in HE... leads me to believe he certainly COULD have control over the details of one's life.
But I don't imagine he does that too often. I think he leaves a great deal for us to figure out, screw up, and fix. All part of the process no doubt.
2) Yeah sometimes
3) Not sure yet
4) Personal Trainer for sure.
1. I choose to call love, in all its forms, expressions, and capacities, "God." I identify with the mainline American Baptist Protestant Christian tradition, but am not wed to anthropomorphic, sexist, or other limiting descriptions of God. I embrace all notions and concepts of God/god/G-d, creator, spirit, and Other. I also embrace those who choose no belief. As such, I do not believe a human-like or fantastic god has control over human events. "South Park" just did a great episode about this - evolution & atheism. Very pointed and informative as well as entertaining.
2. Yes. I always have and probably always will socialize with co-workers and colleagues. However, I don't necessarily socialize with everyone I work with; sometimes it's simply a "work" thing as a group.
3. I will spend Thanksgiving & Christmas with family and friends who live nearby.
4. I prefer to have a personal assistant. I don't know how I get by without one these days. I'll be looking to hire one again around/after the holidays.
1. Let me give you a little inside information about God. God likes to watch. He's a prankster. Think about it. He gives man instincts. He gives you this extraordinary gift, and then what does He do, I swear for His own amusement, his own private, cosmic gag reel, He sets the rules in opposition. It's the greatest prank of all time. Look but don't touch. Touch, but don't taste. Taste, don't swallow. And while you're jumping from one foot to the next, what is he doing? He's laughing, He's an absentee landlord..Worship that? nope not me...Plus, You sharpen the human appetite to the point where it can split atoms with its desire; you build egos the size of cathedrals; fiber-optically connect the world to every eager impulse; grease even the dullest dreams with these dollar-green, gold-plated fantasies, until every human becomes an aspiring emperor, becomes his own God... and where can you go from there?
2. I try to whenever I can...I love my co-workers, and several of them have been there for me when a terminal decent was approaching faster then I wanted.
3. No travels for me or the family, we had a rough death in the family, I believe the holidays are going to be really tough this year.
4. A personal trainer...Vanity, definitely my favorite sin.
1. Yes and yes (though there are distinctions between "sovereignty" and "control"óGod's sovereignty is much more than mere control, but it includes that idea).
2. Yes. It's a good thing.
3. Friends but not family somewhere near at Thanksgiving; hopefully travel to family at Christmastime.
4. I'd like a personal trainer with the disposition of a personal assistantóI could use the trainer more, but the motivational bent in that profession (among other idiosyncrasies) gets on my nerves.
Q1 - I more fraternize more than socialize :)
Q2 - Look around, you are surrounded by 'God' at every moment. 'It' may not exist in the easiest context for people to comprehend (i.e. humanly), but it's there.
Q3 - Traveling for both Thanksgiving and X-mas....tis' the season. Visiting family then bumming around in Central America.
Q4 - Personal assistant...then I could have him/her fill in for me with my personal trainer. I hate structured workouts!
1. I do believe in God, and free will. God is not responsible for wars, it is man who starts them - sometimes in the name of God. I believe there is a greater force that created the world and universe. How can you look at yourself in the mirror and not see how miraculous the human being is...we, all of this came from something greater than we are, something so huge we cannot fathom it. I won't get too deep into it here, but, yes, I am a believer.
2. I don't usually socialize with my co-workers unless they are really cool, fun people. I like to keep my work and home life separate.
3. No need to travel this year. I always spend the holidays with my family. Thanksgiving has been a toss up over the last 10 years, but this year I will be with my family enjoying dinner at my aunt & uncle's house. Christmas will be at home with my family. I have to admit, I'm not looking forward to the holidays with as much glee this year as I have in past years.
4. I'd rather have a personal trainer. I don't need no stinkin' assistant, but a trainer could whip me into shape.
Q1 - I do believe in G-d. I believe that G-d does have some amount of control over what happens, but our choices as humans also play a large part in what does happen. As for G-d being male or female, I always joke that G-d is a woman, but I think I really believe that G-d is neither male or female, and I don't think that there is a human form.
Q2 - Currently, our employees invite us to family events sometimes and we go, and we take them out or have them over sometimes. We are friendly with their families. In my last job, I sometimes got together with people outside the office - mostly those I had a friendly relationship with, or for holiday gatherings, special events, etc where there were social occassions away from the office. Went on a couple of weekends away with the company that were very fun. A lot of partiers work for Compaq! LOL
Q3 - My brother and his family are coming in for Thanksgiving, and we are going to Texas at Christmastime, although that is more because it's when my daughter is off from school and we can travel.......don't want to head down to that heat in the summer!
Q4 - A personal trainer hands down. I have been seriously working out for about the last year, and have lost 60 lbs. Now I still have a bit more to go and wouldn't mind a trainer's expertise to help me do the best exercises for getting toned where I want to get toned. Make the most out of my workouts.
1. I know there is a god. How can one look into the eyes of a child without seeing god's love. How can you watch a thunderstorm, or see a rainbow, or live through terrible car accidents, and not believe that there is someone out there watching over us, and taking care of us. Miracles happen everyday because of gods will. I am a firm believer that He knows on the day we are born, what is going to happen to us throughout our entire lives, he just allows us the freedom to choose wour own paths. Sometimes we choose the right paths, and well... sometimes we don't.
2. I use to socialize with my co-workers all of the time, but the older and wiser Iíve gotten, the more I realize what a bad idea it is. The closeness and bonding that happens from being together outside of a structured environment (especially if/when alcohol is involved) can lead to inappropriate feelings, and ultimately temptations and office romances. One of my best friends and lovers at one point was a co-worker of mine, but in the end, one or both parties ALWAYS, ALWAYS, get hurt, and it has ruined many a friendship and business relationship. So to answer that question, I use to think it was fun, and a good stress reliever at the end of a long work week, but not a good idea kids.
3. I always travel to see my family over the Thanksgiving holiday, and I am so looking forward to it this year (it's one of the family highlights...eat lots of turkey, then shop til we drop). Fortunately, Christmas festivities are all held in Indy, so no traveling required! Yay!
4. A personal trainer hands-down. Preferably a smart cute one. He can whip my butt back into shape, then help me around the office. :)
1. I don't believe in God. I just try to be a good person.
2. I don't really have co workers right now, but when I did, I only rarely socialized with them outside the office. I'm a bide-a-wee-home-heart.
3. I just went to Hawaii in Oct so we won't be doing any more traveling soon. We will join my sister and her kids at a local restaurant for Thanksgiving and Xmas we'll do at home. Maybe a short trip to Camarillo to see the in-laws.
4. I don't need a PA and I don't want a PT...
