FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1 - Life: Earlier this week, European astronomers announced that they had discovered the first potentially habitable Earth-like planet outside of our solar system, where they say conditions are so ideal that oceans, and thus life, may be possible. Do you believe intelligent life currently exists on other planets?

Q2 - Clothes: A co-worker came to work today sporting a new short-sleeved shirt from The North Face. This got me thinking... did he plan to wear that shirt today or was it a choice he made just this morning. Hmmm. Do you know before you go to sleep what you'll be wearing to work the next day, or do you choose your wears on-the-fly the morning of?

Q3 ñ Music: Do you listen to music at work, and if so, do you use an iPod (or similar device), play them through your office computer, or do you just listen to them via a separate radio you keep nearby?

Q4 - Wall Street: The Dow Jones industrial average rose on Thursday as a fresh wave of better-than-expected profits from publicly-held companies propelled the index to its second straight close above 13,000 points (a new record for the blue-chip indicator). Two questions here: 1. Do you even know what that means (that the index hit 13,000 points), and 2. Do you care?

A1) I totally belive. God is amazing like that I know that there are other worlds that he has created. Space is so HUGE we have only discovered 00000000.1% of it.

A2) I mostly choose what I am going to wear 5 min before I am suppose to be at work. I guess that I could put more thought into my outfits. If there is a planned occasion I will plan ahead to be dressed appropriatly.

A3) I always listen to some kind of music at work, mostly thru my itunes. When I get bored with my music sometimes I will listen to the radio thru the internet. I like 96.3 and 97.1. SOmtimes Elwons techno music is so loud I have teo listen to somethin with my ear buds. It works Well. Haha!

A4) No, and I probaly should because I know that in some way it affects me, but I dont have a clue so I dont pay attention. I did however see that the because of wal-mat (the EVIL empire) circut city's shares went down 12% or soemthing.

A4)

1. Of course I believe that there is life on other planets. It would be a huge waste of space if Earth was the only inhabited planet in the universe.

2. If you know me, you'll know the answer to that question. I plan my outfit every night before I go to bed. It helps me sleep better-seriously. Last night, I was particularly excited to plan my outfit for my new True Religion cropped jeans! I love them!

3. I would NEVER be able to get through the day without music. I use my ipod, and yes, I listen to them through my computer. Currently, I am listening to Josh Groban's moving performance from American Idol. I just downloaded it from itunes.

4. To be honest, I don't know what that means and I don't care. I should, but I don't. The only time I ever paid attention to the stock market was in business school, and that was because I had to.

Mine are up :)

Q1. Sure, there's life out there, and as Calvin and Hobbes say, "and ther surest sign is that they haven't tried to contact us!"

Q2. I generally dress in the dark.

Q3. I use my computer, generally listening to my own music only occasionally going for streaming audio.

Q4. I think its great the DOW is high, as it generally signals a strong economy. The trouble is that entire sectors can really go south without the DOW being effected. So yes I care, but I care more about the technology indicators, as my portfolio tends to have a stronger tie to those stocks.

1: Yes there is. I think it's incredibly presumptuous of us to think otherwise.
2: I decide when I open my closet to get dressed for the day.
3: Yes. Mostly my own library on my computer.
4: Yes I know what it means (at least to a reasonable extent). Yes I care, somewhat.

Q1 - Life: There has to be life outside our solar system. Otherwise the rest of the universe is one gigantic waste of space.

Q2 - Clothes: Whatever's clean. I usually wear things in about the same order after doing my laundry, though.

Q3 - Music: Working at my college's bookstore, I'm the only guy who'll take the initiative to put music on. We have a stereo system that I'll play a certain rotation of trusty CD's on.

Q4 - Wall Street: I don't understand it, and thus am less inclined to care about it, wven though I know I should.

1 - Of course it exists. It would be ethnocentric to think otherwise. Besides, probabilities alone show there should be. God, I wish they would take me away....

2 - I choose whatever is laying on top of my dirty cloth's pile. That way I know they are the freshest cloths I have.

3 - For the most part I stream my music via pandora.com. I also listen to my iPod and what I have stored on my computer.

4 - Unfortunately I do and I don't really care about the DOW movement because its a lagging indicator. I get more excited to see the Russell 3000 move since its a more comprehensive index.

My answers are up. Again.

Posted by: Cat. at April 27, 2007 5:36 PM

A1) The universe is an awfully large "space", and it seems plausible, if not almost certain that there is some other form of existent life.

A2) On the fly! I'm a man, what do you expect!!

A3) iPod and Sirius satellite radio in the office, on the trail, in the car, and at home.

A4) Yes, I know what that means, but I don't care. It will rise and fall, but economics is an incredibly complex beast, and the interdependencies greater than any one person can realize.

1. I wouldn't be surprised. God is so awesome he may have many 'worlds' out there we don't know about.

2. I tend to plan it out so I have some variety. If I don't plan then I will get stuck in a rut.

3. Wish I had an iPod. Since I am not working and my mother lives with me, I find it hard to listen to music because she doesn't like it. That's right, she doesn't like music can you believe.

4. I understand but I don't care. I prefer to keep an eye on multiple indicators but must admit that I do that only occasionally.

Q1 - Yes

Q2 - Nope

Q3 ñ Music plays in my head, daily. I used to listen to music a lot. I have hundreds of CDs. When I work I find music distracting. Graphic Design is intensive.

Q4 - 1. Yes 2. Kind of... The Dow affects the cost of living. I witch the numbers. Yippee inflation and plastic money.

1. Life: There is a Mormon scripture, one that almost nobody knows about (and one which only slightly more Mormons are aware of, or at least it seems that way to me) where this comes up. God appears to Moses and reveals several things to him. Among them:

Moses 1:33,35
And worlds without number have I created... But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you... there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man...

In a later chapter it seems to indicate that at least 2 million (it just says "millions") of earths (like unto this one) were created before this one that we live on.

So anyway, long answer short, yes I believe in life on other planets. I would even if not for the religious references. I'm a big sci-fi fan and, as Mulder says, "I WANT to believe!"

2. Clothes: Generally speaking, I just grab whatever's at the top of my pile.

3. Music: I listen to music on my computer at work fairly regularly. I mostly use an iPod in my car or while playing cards.

4. Wall Street: I barely understand what it means. I care only because I know it has an affect on the economy.

Posted by: Stuart at April 29, 2007 11:19 AM

1. It is possible, but I don't think we'll ever really know for sure. There may be people on another planet like ours in another glaxy wondering the same thing...is there life on other planets?

2. I have an idea of what I will wear before I go to sleep, but I don't usually lay it out for the next day. Sometimes I just choose depending on the weather. I have better clothing options in the summer so it's easier to choose an outfit.

3. Work? What is that?

4. I don't really know, but I probably should care.

Posted by: Vera at April 30, 2007 6:23 PM

Q1 - I don't know. I think the universe is so great in size that it is entirely possible and we don't know all that is out there.

Q2 - It depends on my mood. If I have something new or fun to wear, or if there is something special going on, I may plan in advance. Usually, though, it's whatever I can grab and put together that morning - I have to be careful not to forget pieces to put in my gym bag. I've gotten out of the shower at the gym only to find I didn't bring any clean pants with me - and had to get to work (requiring a stop at the store on the way). Not a good situation! If I did it the night before it might alleviate that issue, but since it doesn't happen too much, I"m not worried about it.)

Q3 - We have a radio in our business, but I usually just play songs on my laptop.

Q4 - I'm embarrassed to say I don't fully know what it means, although I do care to a small extent.
