FOUR FOR FRIDAY
Q1 - Pictures : How do you feel about having your picture taken without your permission? For instance, if you were in a public settingósay a park or restaurantóand you noticed a stranger taking your picture, would you say something?
Q2 - Conservation: Do you follow municipal requests to conserve water during dry periods?
Q3 - Birthdays: According to the latest figures I could find, there are approximately 6,717,024,080 people living on planet Earth today (give or take a few hundred thousand). [Taking into consideration that there are 365 days in a year] approximately 18 million people share your birthday (I know, statistically speaking, not the best way of calculating the frequency of birthdays, but you get the point). How many people do you know who share your birthday?
Q4 - Kevorkian Schmavorkian?: Jack Kevorkian will be released from jail today after serving more than eight years of a 10- to 25-year sentence in the assisted death of a Michigan man. The only U.S. state that allows physician-assisted suicide is Oregon, where the law allows only terminally ill and mentally competent adults who can self-administer medication to ask a physician to prescribe life-ending drugs. Do you think physician-assisted suicide should be allowed, or did Michigan get it right back in 1999 when they found Kevorkian guilty of second-degree homicide?

A1) Well it would all depend. If a person was just taking general pictures at a "park" then I would probably ask for a copy. If soome guy was sitting there watching my every move and taking pictures, then I would probably throw dirt in his eye steal his camera and run like the wind. haha!
2) yes, mostly. I have not watered my lawn (aka: weed patch) all spring, and it is unruly.
3) jennifer Aniston, high school freind Brandy, an old boyfriend, and a girl in CA. So 4 people.
4) No, I do not feel that it should be allowed. Whether one murders some one else, or themself, it is still murder. I feel that the only one who as a right to take a life is the one who created us. And suicide is an "easy" way out from life's problems, instead of sticking it thru and being accountable for our actions, where in most cases we probably created the bad situation ourselves. Life happens and there are consequences to everything that we do. So we get to choose wisely and be accountbale. Go Michigan!
Q1 - Pictures : How do you feel about having your picture taken without your permission? For instance, if you were in a public settingósay a park or restaurantóand you noticed a stranger taking your picture, would you say something?
I really don't care if someone takes my picture. I would ask myself why someone was taking my picture but I definitely wouldn't care enough to say something. If they were taking multiple pictures and focusing on just me, I might ask them why.
Q2 - Conservation: Do you follow municipal requests to conserve water during dry periods?
Honestly I don't try and change my lifestyle around conserving water, but I try and help out where I can. I turn down my sprinklers and what not.
I only know 1 person who has my same birthday. I knew him in grade school.
I definitely believe that Michigan got it right. If someone wants to kill him/herself, they can do it, but they shouldn't ask someone else to do it for them or even help them. I know there are a lot of other people that believe differently but I think that suicide is a VERY personal thing and should be self-inflicted. Suicide by definition is, "the intentional taking of one's OWN life".
1. Not that I'm usually that observant, but if it was an attractive individual taking the shots, I'd probably try a pickup line; otherwise, just flip 'em the bird.
2. I have in the past, but if we didn't have people trying to grow kentucky bluegrass lawns in the MIDDLE OF THE FREAKING DESERT, then we probably wouldn't have to worry so much about that kind of shortage.
3. Only one that I can think of... she was in my high school biology class. I'm convinced I've met more, but she would definitely win an award for 'sexiest individual born on my birthday.'
4. Since the debate is all about whether the 'patient' is mentally sound enough to make the call... it seems to me that by the time someone is hurting bad enough to want to die, that its got to be pretty near impossible to still be sane. I suppose I really think that a person has all the rights pertaining to their own life, but its too hard to prove or disprove malicious intent, making a good, safe legalization pretty much impossible.
So I had to check on the birthday thing, and it looks like there are some good ones: Levi Strauss, Victor Hugo, Buffalo Bill, Jackie Gleason, Fats Domino, and Johnny Cash.
Up here: qotd.blogspot.pk/2007/06/01/sorry/
1. Yes, I'd assume they thought I was extremely good looking and therefore picture worthy :)
2. Heck yes!
3. I only know one person that shares my birthday. I do know a few people whose birthdays are right before or after mine, but they missed the mark and weren't born on May 4th.
4. Tough question. My thought is that if the adult is of sound mind and it's their wish then we should let them do what they feel is best for them.
1. Pictures: I'd probably pose for them, or maybe give them the "Doba wave."
2. Conservation: I don't change my habits. I conserve in order to save money whether the gov asks me to or not. If I was rich, I don't think I'd care. If we all conserved enough though, the city would have to raise its rates, so I am actually thankful for the water wasters who keep prices down ;)
3. Birthdays: My sister-in-law and a former coworker. My son missed it by just two days.
4. Kevorkian: I like Oregon's stance. The problem with a lot of these people is they are completely incapacitated and can't kill themselves without assistance. Furthermore, suicide is generally illegal, and even in Oregon a physician has to first declare you mentally competent and terminally ill so you can't legally kill yourself without a physician. Weird but true.
If I had to choose between death and 2 years straight of inconceivable pain, you can bet I'd take the easy way out and would hope that I could get the help I needed. Job I am not.
1. I would say something to the person, I don't like strangers taking my picture without my permission.
2. There isn't much of a drought where I live, but I do conserve regularly. When I brush my teeth I turn the tap off until I need the water. Conservation of natural resources is key.
3. I know of four people who share my birthday: One kid I knew in Jr. High, one of my sister's friends, one of my friends, and my sister's friend's son.
4. I don't think anyone has the right to take anyone else's life, nor do I believe anyone should take his or her own life, but it's a tough decision if someone is suffering or in great pain...still. Huge topic.
I forgot. Jay Leno shares my birthday. When I first discovered that, I was disappointed because Jay Leno was only known as Johnny Carson's backup. But nowadays, he's a bit more well known.
Q1: I am not exactly comfortable getting my picture taken anyway, so I wouldn't necessarily like to have a stranger taking my picture. I probably wouldn't say anything, or tell the person to stop. But I would defiantly hide behind someone to block the photographers view. Hehe...
Q2: Not necessarily. I have always made an effort to turn off the water when not using it. For example, I never leave the water running while brushing my teeth.
Q3: Although I can't imagine every being in a position I do not think that physican should ever preform assisted suicided.
Q1 - Pictures : No, I wouldn't say anything. I would just keep moving.
Q2 - Conservation: No, I don't water my yard at all. I moved from Florida to Georgia, and left my water hose behind. I haven't bothered to get a new one.
Q3 - Birthdays: I grew up with a friend who has the same birthday as mine. Usually, I meet people with anniversaries on my birthday.
Q4 - Kevorkian Schmavorkian?: This is a really heartbreaking topic. I believe suicide is wrong, no matter what form, or for what reason. But can't help but feel for someone who is suffering and in great pain. My answer is to pray for their suffering to end, and lend my faith to that person that they may feel peace and rest. America is a country of diverse opinions, religions, cultures, and I think each community has to make their own decision about what is best.
Q1 - Pictures: I consider myself a fairly good photographer and do take candid pictures of people out in public. If they see me taking the picture, I always ask if they mind. I don't take it without asking first. Some of the best photographs I have ever taken are candid shots of people unaware. I would never use a picture of someone professionally without permission.
Q2 - Conservation: Yes. ..and I cut my grass high so it stays green longer.
Q3 - Birthdays: Only one. He was a very good friend in High School and I have not seen him for many years.
Q4 - Kevorkian Schmavorkian?: I don't know how I feel about this topic. Doctors in hospitals DNR{do not resuscitate} or a regular basis. I also know that doctors assist patients that are on death;s doorstep each and every day.
1. I would feel honored that someone would want to take a picture of me with my clothes still on.
2. I don't feel I use water enough in my regular day life to stop and think if I need to change my habbits.
3. One comes right to mind PAMELA ANDERSON baby!
4. Nope, if people want to die, they need to take care of it themselves.
I forgot...there was this chick I made out with and met at a water park (Wisconsin Dells) that had the same birthday as me...I was younger by actual time. I dig the older chicks!
Q1 - First off, I hate having my photo taken. If I saw somebody I didn't know taking my photo, I would either cover my face or turn away quickly. If I was alone, I would just leave the area. If another person was with me, I would politely confront the person taking my photo.
Q2 - I admit it - I'm a really bad environmentalist. However, if my city requested the preservation of water, I would try to abide. During that huge blackout a few years back, I cut back on my water use. I didn't know how long my home would be without power, so it was the smart action to take.
Q3 - Actually, I'm quite surprised when I find another individual who shares by birthday. I was born March 21st, and it seems like an odd day to be born. At my place of employment, I know two patients who share my birthday though. And I know of some celebrities too - Johann Sebastian Bach, Florenz Ziegfeld, Gary Oldman, Matthew Broderick, and Rosie O'Donnell! Overall, I think it's a shock when I find an individual born in the month of March! It seems likes a less popular month to be born in!
Q4 - Regardless of my personal feeling on this controversial issue, I believe overall that the law must be upheld. When Kevorkian helped a man die, he was breaking Michigan law. Therefore, he should have been sent to jail.
1. I tend to take pictures in public places and it's almost impossible to get a shot free of people, but if I noticed someone specifically taking shots of me, I'd certainly ask them why they're being taken and what they're going to be used for.
2. Most of my water usage is for cooking and bathing. The balance is laundry, which I put off till I have lots of wash and my garden, which I deep-water rather than just dump water on the surface where it evaporates.
3. Just one. My Great niece Ollie, who was born last year.
4. Technically they got it right because of the terms of the existing law, but I believe it should be allowed. What puzzles me is that we put animals out of their suffering due to our love for them, but our own kind is denied the same kindness out of a truly twisted religio-moral logic. I've never, ever understood where the "respect for life" or "human dignity" is in forcing someone to linger as their body and/or mind is consumed by often horrendously painful diseases-- or being hooked up to machines because the doctor or your family refuses to unplug them.
Q1 - I think I would question someone taking my picture whom I did not know. Nowadays, you don't know what kind of kooks and perverts are out there and what they might be doing...
Q2 - Yes, to the best of my ability. Fortunately, I live near the beach and this doesn't happen regularly.
Q3 - I am good friends with a man who has my same birthday, same year, and he teases me that I'm an old lady because I have like 3 hours on him! LMAO I also have a nephew with my birthday. I have known one or two others in my life who shared my birthday.
Q4 - I personally think physician assisted suicide should be legal. As Mike said above, you put animals out of their misery when they're suffering. I have watched two parents and other relatives die slow, agonizingly painful deaths from cancer, and feel certain that once it gets to a certain point, and they know that there is nothing more they can do except keep the patient "comfortable" - why they say that I have no idea because at some point, there is no possible physical comfort from what I've seen - it should be legal to help them out of their pain. At that point, the patient is not strong enough or able enough physically to even get their own pills if that were to be their method of choice.
I don't care, but if I was a celebrity and couldn't go anywhere without getting the poparazees all over my stuff, I think I would start getting irritated and be one of those pissed celebrities you see yelling at them to get a life. I just read that Hugh Grant threw a container of baked beans at those pesky poparotzees (spell check didn't catch that)and got arrested. I hope they (the beans) were rancid from sitting in the fridge too long.
Yeah, kind of.. I water when there is shade cover or its in the morning or evening. The grass is yellow though so I think i'm going to be even more conservative because its beginning to look like a lost cause.
I thought I was born a prince and that no one could share my day ever! I actually have no clue, I've forgot my birthday off an on the past 5 years.
I do agree with assistance. As long as family and the doc can discuss the mind state of the patient and come to a conclusion that they are lucid enough, I think a little help to end the misery or pain they don't want to deal with is appropriate. Easier said than done I suppose.
1. I am a camera whore, (just see my myspace pages!!), so I actually LOOK for people to take my picture, whether in public or private places.
2. I generally observe all local ordinances, especially since becoming a homeowner.
3. I don't know personally of anyone who shares my Feb. 15th birthday. I *am* looking for someone to share a wedding date with me. Any takers???
4.Dr. K never should have been prosecuted. His arrest, trial, and subsequent incarceration are a travesty of justice not only for him, but for all his patients and for the American citizenry at large. Assisted suicide, whether or not by physician, should be, and I believe is, a basic inalienable human right. Dr. K should move to Oregon and practice medicine there. God, I hate the actions of this country and its various states from time to time.
