FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1 - God's Toys: Starting next month, more than 400 Wal-Mart stores will start stocking their shelves with faith-based toys. The toys will feature figures from biblical stories such as Samson, Goliath and Daniel. There is also a 12-inch-tall talking Jesus. The idea behind the line is to give children a faith alternative to action figures that have been so popular for many years. Would you buy these toys for your children?

Q2 - Bones: How do you feel about eating meat off of a bone, i.e., chicken wings, turkey drumstick, ribs, etc.? Does eating meat directly off a bone gross you out or are you down with the bone?

Q3 - Iraq: While U.S. Senators on Wednesday blocked a bid to force a vote on U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq, a CBS News/New York Times poll finds 61 percent of Americans think Congress should not continue to fund the situation in Iraq unless a timetable for withdrawal is put in place. Twenty-eight percent say funding should be continued without a timetable, while eight percent think all funding for the conflict should be blocked, no matter what. What do you think?

Q4 - Take 'em Off: Do you wear your shoes in your own house? How do you feel when someone else asks you to take your shoes off before entering theirs?

Comments:

1. I don't have kids, but if I did I seriously doubt that I would buy them. I'm rather areligious and, living in Indiana, kids are awash in a tidal wave of religion anyway. Besides, I fail to see how the further commercialization of bible with tacky plastic crap is much of an alternative to the other commercialized plastic crap.

2. I love ribs, wings, etc

3. Funding certainly needs to be contingent on a timetable for withdrawal, no later than the end of 2008.

4. I don't generally wear shoes in my house. Nor do I mind removing them in other's. The only exception is parties. Nobody wants to deal with a mountain of shoes by the door, or with picking through them to find one's own pair.

1) Bible Heroes - I think if people want to teach their kids the bible, they should read it to them. Making dolls out of bible characters seems disrespectful and cartoonish.

2) Bones - Eating directly from the bone is fine with me, but kinda seems barbaric. Especially when all those bones get stacked on a plate on the table.

I've always wondered what aliens (from outer-space, not Mexico) would think of some of our rituals.
I think they'd also be fascinated by our practice of slapping our hands together in rapid succession when we're all in agreement or pleased with something.

3) Funding - Not mentioned were the three percent who voted for better cots for members of Congress.

4) I do wear shoes at home occasionally. There's no rule against it, and I don't feel comfortable asking guests to remove them. Here in California the weather is generally nice, and there's simply no need to remove them as a general rule.

When I'm asked to remove my shoes at someone's home, I do so. But it makes me feel silly.

I have actually shown up without shoes at those homes. What should I do then? Put shoes on? I'm not sure.

1. It doesn't bother me and if I had kids, I would probably buy them. After all, they are just plastic figures, and it wouldn't hurt a child to have one. Probably better than a GI Joe with a gun.

2. NO. I DON'T! That is one of the reasons I turned vegetarian. Eating meat off a bone totally grosses me out. You end up with rubbery veins and other weird things, and the smell makes me sick. Wings? Forget about it.

3. It's time to end this and hopefully our troops can come home soon. Maybe once old Georgie Boy gets out of office we'll see a change, but nobody wants to wait that much longer.

4. Only in the kitchen and basement. I don't like wearing shoes in the bedroom or bathroom or livingroom. If you think about all the places your shoes go on an average day...the gas station, public bathroom, street, gym...and all those germs that would be brought inside, it's gross. Especially if you have little kids and you have rugs and people are stomping all over the rugs with dirty shoes and then your child is crawling on the same rug - ick! Take off your shoes. And no, it wouldn't bother me if someone asked, sometimes I take them off voluntarily because I don't want to walk across the carpet with dirty shoes.

1. I figure I'll wind up buying whichever toys my kids show the most interest in, because there's no point in a toy a child doesn't want. So if they want a Moses doll that has a pull string for him to say the 10 commandments, fine by me.

2. I'm not a juge chich fan, but eating down to the bone on a steak or with ribs is great! The marrow is usually really good tasting too.

3. There's way too much involved for a wholesale withdrawal. The way I read it, we'd basically be leaving the country to let it be completely ripped apart by a civil war which we precipitated. I'm of the opinion that the real solution is to put in more troops, enough to really finish the job. I'd say our current force is taking so long to reach any objectives because there isn't enough invested in the effort, largely because our general populace is unsupportive of using our full military arsenal. The way to win wars is not to lilyfoot around, but to deliver a decisive, overwhelming blow to the enemy.

4. Considering all the dirt that's available in the world, a little on my floor doesn't bother me at all. The only reason I would want to remoce the shoes, just because of the dirt is if I had a very light colored carpet, which I personally think looks bad. Taking my shoes off is more of a personal comfort thing. In other people's houses, its up to them, but generally, I find that the people I want to hang out with enough to go to their house aren't the kind of people who get uptight about shoes on the carpet.

1. God's Toys: Would I buy them? If my kids wanted them and they were cheap, sure. However, I am in partial agreement with Steve on this. Being that Jesus is Christianity's most sacred figure, I'm not so sure my son having Jesus getting eaten by his dinosaurs or destroying his Transformers is very respectful.

2. Bones: Are you kidding? That's the best part!

3. Iraq: Well, I've been accused of being a war monger. But I figure if you invade a place, then don't be a wuss about it. Let's finish the job. Now if the timetable says to pull out "when the job is done", then fine, let's have a timetable. Otherwise, forget it.

If my mother sent me in to clean my room and I made a bigger mess of it than it was, then she didn't just let me out because I screwed it up. Although, she might say, "You've got 10 minutes to have your room clean or get a whippin'!" I usually got the job done in 10 minutes after that.

4. Take 'em Off: I do wear shoes in my own home. However, I have no problem taking them off in anybody else's home if that is their custom.

As a general rule, when people come into my home I expect them to abide by my rules. When I'm in somebody else's home, I'm bound by their rules... unless I'm worried about embarrassing foot odor. Then I just run off like I've lost my mind or something.

Q1 - I would not buy these for my kids - it's just another way for someone to make money.

Q2 - I really don't like eating chicken off the bone, ribs are fine, and steaks are awesome. LOL.

Q3 - We have to have a good plan of action. To just withdrawal will leave more conflict than is there currently, and could have serious repercussions. Not to mention negating the valor of those lives already lost.

Q4 - I take my shoes off when I walk in the door, but mainly because I prefer being barefoot. I wouldn't mind taking my shoes off in someone else's house, same reason.

1. I would buy them if I had kids because I'm sure they would wont them after hearing about them in SUnday School.

2. I do not eat meat off the bone. I have problems with eating meat so what little I eat has to either be ground beef or boneless chicken.

3. Set a time table based on what we hear from Gen. Patreas and the ground guys in Sept or Oct.

4. I wear shoes because my feet hurt without my arch supports. If I didn't have that reason I would go without. I don't mind taking them off at someones home but I want socks then.

Q1 - Funny that you have this question. My wife went out an bought some of these toys for my kids. They don't play with them.

Q2 - Love boned meat. I love ribs the most... mmmm.... Now I'm hungry.

Q3 - After world war II, Asia was a very hot region of the world. All the world powers were clamoring for something. At the time there was a leader in China named Chiang Kai-shek. Anyway, that guy was a great leader and a proponent of democracy and capitalism. He was also great friends with some high people in America. At the time Communism was really spreading fast. So he pleaded with America and asked them if they would only stick with him and protect him from the Russians and communists from there, he could build a great free state in China just like America. Well, lack of forsight on Americans side ended up with us abandoning him and so he lost to the Russians and had to flee to Taiwan. So now we have a communist state in China and some day their male population will outnumber their female population by so much that they will send all of their "extra" males to war. Maybe against us or our allies. Their is a saying that history replays itself. Watch it play out again in Iraq.

Q4 - We take them off. I am so used to taking my shoes off in my own house that I don't mind taking them off in other peoples house. I usually take them off by habit if they don't ask.
