FOUR FOR FRIDAY

Q1 - Can We?: There's a lot of talk these days about ending worldwide hunger and homelessness within the next 10 years. Do you think this can or will happen?

Q2 - I Got It!: Barry Bonds hit his 756th career home run earlier this week, surpassing Hank Aaron and landing himself in the Major League baseball record books for hitting the most homeruns in the history of professional baseball here in the U.S. As for the ball itself, it wound up in the hands of 22-year-old college student Matt Murphy of Queens, N.Y. If you were Murphy, what would you have done / do with the ball... toss it back onto the field, give it to Bonds, sell it to the highest bidder, donate it to Major League baseball's Hall of Fame, keep it on your mantel, throw it away, or something else?

Q3 - Yummy: What is your favorite non-breakfast food to eat for breakfast?

Q4 ñ Missing Children: Nearly 800,000 children are reported missing each year in the U.S., and while most of them are found and returned to their loved ones, not all of them are. With this in mind, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) has developed a new tool for engaging the public in the search for missing children. The ìMissing Kid Saverî is a screensaver that displays important images and information about missing children (downloadable at http://www.missingkidsaver.com). Now that you know about it, how likely are you to install the NCMECís screen saver or your home or office computer?

Q1- I hate to be a negative in a world of posotives, but no. There may be a chance of ending hunger, but I believe that some people prefer to be homeless. Call me crazy, but there was a second gunman on the grassy knoll.

Q2-I would sell it no doubt. Why wouldn't you take an opportunity given to you by someone who took steroids? Even if I had to pay taxes on it, I would sell it for sure. Well, sell it or play baseball with it. Or see if it would blend at www.willitblend.com

Q3-Cold Pizza, had it this morning

Q4-With my attention span, I couldn't even pick out my boss in a business meeting, so I don't know how well I would remember the faces of the missing children on the screensaver. But, I guess it wouldn't hurt to download it.

1. Can We?: Can we? Yes, anytime the world so chooses. Will we? Never. Getting enough people in the world to care is one thing. Getting enough people in the world to care enough to actually do something about it is another. Getting ruthless warlords and dictators in countries filled with starving and homeless people to allow their citizens to be fed and sheltered, impossible.

Also, not everybody is homeless for reasons that we can help them with. But we could certainly put a dent in it.

2. I Got It!: I would hold a "Burning Ball" event and charge admission. Then I would burn the ball to a crisp and hold an auction for it.

3. Yummy: Graham crackers and milk. If that counts as breakfast, then I'd have to say M&M's.

4. Missing Children: I won't download or install it. I did try the scrolling Amber Alert thingermajig on one of my websites for a bit though. Didn't like it either. Although, if I had the money, I would implant GPS trackers in each of my own kids without hesitation.

Q1 - Can We?: I don't think we can. I've read a lot in the last while about this and the problem with Africa and the aid everyone sends there. If we don't find a better way to help people help themselves rather than just giving them money and/or food, the problem will actually get worse over time. So I say not only will we not be able to do it, the way we're all trying to help is making it worse.

Q2 - I Got It!: This is an opportunity for that guy. He has BUZZ and airtime on his side. I'd hold the biggest press conference the world has seen, and give the ball back to Bonds and his family. There would be smiles. There would be tears. And then I'd leverage that exposure, as the guy who gave the ball back, and do book deals, speaking opportunities, etc. And in the end, I'd have far more money than selling that ball ever would bring.

Q3 - Yummy: 2nd Stu, cold pizza. Better than when it's hot.

Q4 ñ Missing Children: Great cause the NCMEC. Really bad idea. Screen savers turn on when people AREN'T at their computers. No one will ever see any of those kids.

1. I haven't really heard all the talk, but I don't think we can do it.
2. I would probably sell it on eBay; however, I would be sure to mention that I'm not keeping it because the steroids thing.
3. Honestly, I don't really venture out of the breakfast foods for breakfast that much. Maybe Red Vines? I had those for breakfast a few times.
4. I won't download it.

Posted by: Clark at August 10, 2007 8:59 AM

1. It will never happen
2. After the beating he took holding onto that ball after catching it....he should sell it just to cover his medical expenses.
3. COLD pizza and a half empty bottle of beer!
4. Not going to download it. Period.

Q1 - No. I don't think that we can ever do something like that unless the world would come under the same government. Say like the united states of the world. Since I don't think that will ever happen either will worldwide hunger and homelessness.

Q2 - Sit on it until it inflated in value and then auction it.

Q3 - Cold Pizza!!!

Q4 - Not likely. Heartless I know. Just being truthful.

1. No way. There might be enough resources in the world, but between bad leaders, corrupt governments, and the fact that giving out food doesn't solve the underlying issues, it just can't happen.

2. I case you all missed the story, the guy was on his way to meet up with his buddy in Queensland Australia when he caught the ball. Why Queensland? because this particular buddy is Ryan Bresin, the brother of Abigail Breslin star of Little Miss Sunshine, and Ryan invited him to go on location to the movie she's currently shooting. The dude's already on the inside track for easy money if he wants it, so I think Jer's PR track is the way to go.

3. Cold Pizza.

4. How depressing would that be, to see missing kids every time you come back to your computer? Good message, very poor medium; no way I download it.

q1: there seems to be a consensus here...though a sad one. i'm afraid i agree with it. 10 years just doesn't seem realistic without some serious, SERIOUS changes.
q2: i'd throw it in a dumpster...stupid steroid punk. then i'd climb back in and get it to probably sell because they says it's worth half a million dollars...i'd be the really stupid one if i just threw it in the dumpster.
q3: cold pizza.
q4: jer is exactly right...people aren't at their computers if the screen saver is on...no I wont download it.

Yeah well its physically possible because we probably over eat here in the U.S. to cover all of the starving people globally. But I think there is too much money involved in keeping those poverty stricken countries from becoming economically able and noncorrupt (U.S. not ommitted). So no : (

If Bonds wanted it I guess I would give it back, it would be cool to get the 15 minutes of fame; be on Good Morning America. Or I would just sit on it for a while and sell it off during my retirement.

Beer

Can't even white lie this one off, I wouldn't use it. Should be a better way to get their faces out there.

On question 4 I notice it is only men who say they wont load the screen saver, go figure.

I know that no matter what the means, doing something is better than doing nothing. But I guess you can turn a blind eye thats what we americans do anyway isn't it? Now if it was about Barry bonds all the men would be on to the d/l

Unless your computer is in a cave then someone is bound to notice a picture at some point.

1) I sincerely doubt it, if only because food (or the lack thereof) is a potent political weapon. Some governments have no qualms about creating artificial famines to keep their own populance subdued. as to homelessness? While I agree that some may prefer to be that way, it also depends on the standard you use to gauge someone's living situation.

2) Sell it, of course.

3) Grilled cheese sandwiches!

4) Though it's a worthy project, I'd have to say it'd be very unlikely, mostly because I have my pc's monitor go to sleep after three minutes of non-use and turn it off when I know I won't be using it in order to conserve energy.

1. These days, anything is possible. I believe it takes a collective consciousness to make it happen.

2. If I caught it I would keep it and wait awhile to see what the value is and possibly sell it. I could put the money to good use.

3. Cold pizza

4. I probably won't intall the screen saver, but it doesn't mean I don't care about the missing children.

Q1_ It can happen. Will it is another question? There is definitely enough wealth and resources around the world to provide food for those in dire need, but those most capable of helping or alleviating the hunger aren't always the ones involved with the solution.

Q2_ I'd sell the ball, which is what Matt Murphy is being forced to do because of the tax associated with the item. Would I give it back to Bondsónope! That fat head has amassed enough collectibles in recent years. He retires each entire uniform (from helmet down to the shoes) that he hits a home run in and archives it in a box labeled for that particular home run. If he hits a homer in the early innings of a game, he switches mid-game so that each home run can have a separate uniform associated with it. He is smart, but I don't like him. I'd sell that ball asap.

Q3_ String cheese. Also Powerbars.

Q4_ Not likely. Good idea however.
