FOUR FOR FRIDAY -- THE LATE EDITION

Q1 - Manufacturing: If you could manufacture and sell anything, what would you make?

Q2 - Bias: When filling out an online form, do you expect "United States" to appear at the top of an otherwise alphabetically sorted "Country" list?

Q3 - Questions: Generally speaking, do you ask more questions than you answer or answer more questions than you ask?

Q4 - Image: Do you like to have your picture taken?

Comments:

1) I would build and sell a vehicle that runs on water or dirt. Whichever is most plentiful to the user. I love the idea of a vehicle running on garbage like the Back to the Future car too.

2) If a site is obviously directed to US citizens, such as my small-town paper, I don't think I should have to scroll past Chad and Moldova to select the US from a drop-down list.

3) Why do you ask?

4) I don't mind having my picture taken, as long as it is given back at some point.

1 - Flying cars.

2 - Generally speaking, yes. Its not that hard to read my IP and pretty much know where I'm coming from.

3 - I am the answer man.

4 - Depends who's taking it.

Q1 - Manufacturing: I would a device that magically pulls water out of the air. Clean, pure, non-disease carrying water for the world.

Q2 - Bias: Yes I do think that, and I think that's at the heart of what is wrong with America. Now I know you can do IP checks, etc. or if you only do things in the US, then it all makes sense. But in general, our attitude in this country is that we should come first, and to that I say, should we?

Q3 - Questions: I think both. I ask A LOT of questions when I'm looking to understand something new, but if someone asks me about something I know a bit about, you can't shut me up.

Q4 - Image: 50/50. Don't particularly like it, don't hate it either. I am one of the best looking dudes I know though, so that might have something to do with it.

Q1 - Manufacturing: The Starship Enterprise complete with hot robot chicks to run the ship. Can't you just imagine the greatness of a starship run by baby robot chickens? That would be sweet.

Q2 - Bias: No, I expect to automatically be taken to the U.S. site. I'm with Greg on this... read my IP and don't make me tell you where I'm from when you already know. You can always give me the option to change it in case I happen to be visiting the country of Tuvalu (all 9 square miles of it) but need access to the U.S. site.

Q3 - Questions: I used to be an answer machine, but ever since I discovered this FFF thing...

Q4 - Image: When I was younger, I hired my sister to follow me around and take pictures of me. Yeah, I'm pretty full of myself. But it feels so good to be so full!

1. Legos. There needs to be more of those in the world, if'n you ask me.

2. I don't expect it to be there, unless that particular site has most of their sales from the U.S. If that's the case, it had better be there, or I'll call the usability police on 'em.

3. I ask more questions than I answer. That's not to say that I don't talk about myself all the time; it's just that I rarely have any questions fired at me. So I "volunteer" a lot of information :). Hence, my nickname when I worked at Novell was TMI.

4. Heck no! I'm now officially a fattie, and I don't need any reminders of my not-so-subtle transformation into the Human Blob.

q1: Bikes...high quality mountain bikes.

q2: I do think that. Especially when I'm on US sites that are geared for a US audience. I expect it much less if I know I'm on an international site e.g. bbc.co.uk.

q3: Hmmm...I'd assume I ask more questions. Actually it would be really interesting to keep track for a few days and see what the results are.

q4: Once or twice, but when it's a lot it tends to irritate me a little.

Q1 - Baseball bats. I'd even cork 'em for a nominal fee.

Q2 - I actually hope for United States to be on top, and am pleased when it is, though I actually expect to have to scroll a bit for it. However, when I design this feature on the web, I add USA as first choice.

Q3 - I answer more than I ask, I'm not one to pry as much.

Q4 - Not usually, only with my family. I also still need to get this stupid chip on my front tooth fixed.

Posted by: GildedCage.net at May 19, 2008 7:48 AM

Q1: Hydrogen fuel.

Q2: On U.S. sites, yes. If I'm visiting a site in another country, I expect that country's name to be at the top. Nothing about bias - it has more to do with convenience.

Q3: I definitely ask more than I answer, because I'm constantly asking myself questions I can't answer. I'm also very curious.

Q4: Not only do I not like it, I dislike it. I also hate taking photos, although I like having them to look back at. Maybe it's just because I'm not very good at it.

1. liquid, or chewable joy, something from a willie wonka factory.

2. I would prefer not to enter anything. I'm not really caring about the convenience of selecting the U.S. in a drop down.

3. I ask. I am the dumb question person everyone wishes was there in the room so they don't have to ask.

4. Sure I'm not opposed to it. I'd prefer to be fully clothed when I do get the photo done, as well as aware of the photo being taken, and I'm not in the changing room at the Gap.

1) I would manufacture Wooden enclosures for keyboards to make them look like organs.

2) Yes I do, if it is a US product. By I recognize the arrogance as well.

3) What do you consider a question?

4) Yes Yes Yes Yes... though I seldom like the picture taken!

Posted by: J chrisman at May 19, 2008 2:53 PM

1. Purses and bags (I know, very much a woman thing), but I would love to be more creative and make something unique that others would love.

2. I always expect it to be at the top. Like the others have said, if it's a U.S. website, why shouldn't it be listed first?

3. I usually listen to other people who like to talk a lot, and can never really get a word in myself. I like asking questions of other people to get to know them better.

4. It depends on who is taking the photo, how I look when it's being taken, and what it will be used for.

Posted by: Vera at May 19, 2008 6:19 PM

Q1 - Manufacturing: Flying Cars or maybe a TDP Manufacturing Plant.

Q2 - Bias: Yes. I think all web forms should recognize your local based on the OS and put that at the top of the list.

Q3 - Questions: I tend to ask more questions than answer.

Q4 - Image: No really.

Posted by: Keith Hester at May 19, 2008 7:00 PM

A1. Would this be something I'm good at making, or something I like? It would probably have to be a cradle to cradle vehicle powered by a lifetime plasma power cell of some futuristic variety.

A2. Ok, you could look at this two ways - 1. the Internet is smart and you can determine where someone is coming from (country) by ip address. So forms should be "smart". 2. I don't really care all that much. It doesn't take much to scroll to the "end" of the list!

A3. Hmmm... never thought of that before. Perhaps 50/50?

A4. Can't stand to have my photograph taken! Don't mind taking ohters though.

Q1 - Ok, serious or flippant here? On one hand, I'd love to be able to actually make jewelry or knit handmade pieces to sell. On the other hand, it would be kind of cool to have an empire of sex toys to make humankind more happy and content.

Q2 - Nah, I just go along with it. It's nice if it comes up first, but if not, I understand the alphabet and can play along.

Q3 - Both. I have a background in journalism so I always say I was trained to be nosy. lol But I also tend to answer a lot of questions and divulge way too much information.

Q4 - I don't mind them. I like the way I look, and I want pictures of myself around for my kids for posterity!

Posted by: Marjorie at May 19, 2008 7:32 PM

Q1- I would manufacture money and sell it for cheap.

Q2- I don't expect it, but it would be nice to not have to scroll down or take the extra 2.7 seconds to find it.

Q3- This question kinda hurts...I have now realized that I ask more questions than I answer. Come on guys...do you not think I am smart enough to answer your questions? Do you not care about what I might have to say?...rude.

Q4- I won't necessarily run from a camera, and most of the pictures you see me in I will be pulling a face or something "unnatural". But, I don't wake up each morning with a wish to have my picture taken.
