Four For Friday

Q1 - Television: In case you've missed the public service announcements in recent months, the federal government here in the United States has set February 17, 2009, as the date by which all television stations must discontinue broadcasting an analog signal. Are you prepared for the switchover? Are any of the televisions in your home currently unable to accept a digital signal?

Q2 - R.S.V.P.: According to The Emily Post Institute, your most important obligation as an invited wedding guest is to respond to the invitation immediately, especially if you are unable to attend. Generally speaking, how long does it take for you to R.S.V.P. to a wedding, dinner party, birthday party, etc? Do you R.S.V.P. right away or do you tend to wait till the last possible moment?

Q3 - Hug it Out: How do you feel about hugging? Do enjoy being hugged or does it make you feel uncomfortable?

Q4 - Stunt: Pick a celebrity, any celebrity. Got one? Good. Now, picture yourself in charge of their next publicity stunt. Do tell... who is your celebrity and what would you have them do?

Comments:

1. I have no idea. Probably.

2. I always respond promptly because I know I'd want the same from my guests. I think it's rude not to respond because it leaves the hosts guessing as to whether or not you're coming. It's just common courtesy.

3. I don't mind hugging someone I am close to, but some people are just too huggy for my taste. Especially if I don't know them. Overall, it feels good to get hugged. I always give hugs to my nieces and nephews when I see them. They are quite huggable. It would be nice to receive a hug everyday.

4. I don't like celebrities. Maybe I'd get Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears to be seen coming out of church together or something. Who cares about what celebrities do anyway, they are just people.

1. I deffer to Elwon.

2. It's long been a joke that people in Utah don't RSVP. Having hosted a party or two, I know that this is true. That being said, I'm terrible at RSVPing and thank you notes!

3. Call me Princess HuggieFace. I LOVE hugs, love hugging, I wish I were in Europe so I could kiss everyone as well! (the very person Vera must have been talking about)

4. I would choose Collin Firth... no wait... George Clooney... no, maybe Antonio Banderas - well one of those and the stunt would be that we spread a nasty rumor about him having a sleazy affair with 32 year old, married, Mormon, mother of 5 from Utah...just a rumor...

1. My TVs are ready and willing.

2. I usually try to grab a stamp and turn in around next day. If I don't - it may not get done.

3. I like getting them and giving them. I think the world would be a better place if people weren't so hung up and uncomfortable.

4. I think I would have Elvis come out of hiding and do a free concert in New Orleans.

Posted by: Steve L. at July 18, 2008 7:33 PM

1. All of my tv's are analog, but two of them have digital to analog converter boxes attached. The 42 inch I only use for dvd, so it's left out in the cold.

2. Somewhere in the middle. I work second shift so most invites are issued for hours when I may be scheduled to work so I sometimes have to trade shifts and that takes time. I won't give a definitive reply until I know I have the time off since it's just as rude to say 'no,' and show up as it is to say 'yes,' and not attend.

3. Until Pop got sick, my family wasn't big on hugs, but I'm fine with them unless it's obviously insincere.

4. Justin Timberlake. In Drag. Singing Marlene Dietrich's "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets"

A1) Already switched over...
A2) I try to RSVP within two weeks of receiving the invitation, unless their are mitigating circumstances
A3) Hugs are good...
A4) Haven't got a clue! I'm not coherent enough to even think about it tonight.

Q1: I'm ready. I live in the boonies, where it's almost impossible to pick up TV signals on the ol' rabbit ears.

Q2: I wait. You never know what's going to come up at the last minute. My mom tells me, however, that if you say you can't make it, and then you can, you should come anyway, because almost always at least a few people who say they're coming don't. (My family was in the catering business for over 20 years.)

Q3: Depends. I hug my wife and occasionally my kids, but it feels uncomfortable with anyone else.

Q4: I would have Leonardo DiCaprio being struck full frontal by a Hummer driving 80 miles an hour. (DiCaprio has ruined a lot of good movies for me. What could Scorcese possibly see in this guy?)

Q1 - Television: You'd think I wouldn't have a clue about this (what with my head in the sand and all. What can I say? It's nice and cool down there!) But I'm actually normally an early adopter... when I can afford it. Had to put off buying an HDTV until just a couple months ago. Now I'm ready to rock! My favorite part though is that despite being rated as "energy efficient," it actually uses about 3x as much energy as my old TV. But at least it doesn't come with a nasty case of pelvic inflammatory disease.

Q2 - R.S.V.P.: My wife usually handles these for me. If it's just me, it's likely to get ignored.

Q3 - Hug it Out: Aside from my wife and kids, I like my personal space and I'm kind of stand-offish, so I only let very close friends get near me. Hugs are more like close-bodied pats on the back.

Q4 - Stunt: John Glen announces that NASA is sending Stu into space to study the effects of playing video games with one arm in a weightlessness environment.

Q1: I'm married to an electronics junky, of course we are ready :P.

Q2: I usually wait a bit just in case something comes up, I don't like to cancel if I don't have to. Of course we are usually only invited to b-day parties, which needs less planning. If I know it's going to be more expensive, catered or whatever, I'll give more notice.

Q3: I love hugs, I'm a very touchy feely person, but have learned to control myself pretty well as I have gotten older. I give hugs whenever possible :).

Q4: I'd just like to see Will Smith do more pull-ups, ie. I am Legend, mmm.... And I know many other women would as well, so I think we'd just put him up there on stage and have him workout sans shirt!

Hello FBs, posting on a delayed Four for Friday!

Hey, it looks like you have some advertisers posting on your blog. Cool.

Q1: We are prepared and ready. My husband patiently waited until the tax refund and then spent the $$ on 2 TVs in one weekend. Glad we have a mileage credit card!

Q2: Depends on the wedding. It seems like most times we are speaking with our family/friends who sent the invite (about our attendance) before we send the RSVP. The actual RSVP is follow up paperwork.

Q3: Hugs are great. My husband and I, our families and most of our friends hug. For new friends, you have to gauge the hug receptiveness. Kinda awkward when you move in on an unwilling recipient!

Q4: Obama. I would counsel him to quietly make his trip to the middle east, soak in the experience and turn off the liberal press groupies for a change.

Q1: The real question is... should you let the Government pay for your TV upgrade? http://exitcavehere.com/2008/01/government-subsidized-television/

Posted by: Matt at July 20, 2008 9:15 PM

1- Been getting screwed by cable for years... its about time I got a benefit from it.

2- I tend to be quick, pretty much right away.

3- I'm a hugger with people I know pretty well.

4- Um... could I just have French Stewart glue his eyelids open?

Posted by: Greg at July 21, 2008 6:31 AM

1. I think if I got a cable connection that would mean I'm viewing the digital feed, so no worries. I haven't used antenna for years. Kinda miss the old bunny ears and foil...er actually no I don't.

2. I haven't been invited to a RSVP thing in a while. I think I'm good at at least calling and saying I won't be there - because chances are it's usually totally out of the way.(Brad and Cindy are getting married in Guatemala, we'd love you to be there...)

3. Hugs are good for any time. Hate it when it gets awkward and you end up colliding arms, like okay you go low and I go high.

4. condoleeza Rice pregnant with the Iranian pres Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's love child. And that uh..leads to peace talks and stuff..okay that sucks I got nothing.

Posted by: Aaron V at July 21, 2008 9:13 AM

q1: analog tv but I'm using cable for reception so no changes necessary for me
q2: never do...probably should. i will from now on.
q3: i hug family and close friends
q4: celebrities...bah!

Posted by: Ryan R at July 21, 2008 9:34 AM

1 - I have cable...
2 - I try to RSVP within a couple days. To not RSVP shows no class.
3 - Viva La Hugs!
4 - I would enlist Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan in a cliff jumping contest. The first one down wins! Nelson ratings would be through the roof.

Posted by: Tyson at July 21, 2008 9:50 AM

1. No problem. Swith over.
2. Always RSVP right away.
3. HUG!!!! But I hate a wimpy hug. My daughter is a wimpy hugger. I'm working on that!
5. Britney Spears MTV VMA awards, to redeem her last fiasco.
