Four For Friday
Q1 - 180 Degrees: If you could suddenly proclaim that any one work of fiction (be it a movie, novel/book, short story, fable, fairy tale, play, etc.) was actually true, what would you choose?
Q2 - Airline Safety: According to a recent report, approximately 96% of people involved in airplane accidents survive the accident itself and, aside from a fear of flying, experience no long-term health problems. When flying, do you take certain precautions or care to increase your chance of survival in event of a crash (i.e., choosing a certain seat in a specific part of the airplane or counting the number of seats between yourself and exit) or do you not like to think about such things?
Q3 - Citizenship: Have you heard about this one? The latest effort to rewrite the election of 2008... an accusation that that President-elect Barack Obama is not a legitimate natural-born American, and therefore cannot be sworn into office. The argument, which is being taken all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, goes something like this: When Barack Obama was born in 1961, Kenya was still a British colony. Obama's father was from Kenya, and therefore a British citizen. That British citizenship automatically passed onto his son (President-elect Obama), and that means that President-elect Obama--who was born in the U.S.--was born with dual citizenship and should not be allowed to hold the Office of the Presidency. What do you think this? Should the President of the United States be allowed to hold dual citizenship? (By the way, for the record, President-elect Obama's dual citizenship expired when he turned 21.)
Q4 - Overrated: Who do you think is the most overrated (you choose... actor, politician, professional athlete, or musician)?

1. Princess Bride. I would love to master the fire swamp, take on ROUS', and duel with swords on a daily basis.
2. I don't give this even a fleeting thought. I think when you are crazy fearful of things like this in life, you attract it and make it come true.
3. This is crazy. This should not affect his election. However, I don't think the President should hold dual citizenship for potential conflict of interest reasons. If candidates are elected they should have to give up their citizenship to other countries.
4. Reality TV is way overrated.
Q1 - Dawn of the Dead. Zombie-pocalypse!!
Q2 - I don't take any special precautions. I feel pretty safe flying. and not because of the TSA.
Q3 - I think it's a big pile of BS that the government is wasting time and money on. People are just trying to find a chink in the armor.
Q4 - Prince. Bob Dylan. KISS. Chad Ocho Cinco Johnson.
1. Okay, I'm ashamed to admit I've even seen this movie, but I have to say Clockstoppers. It's a terrible movie, but in it a scientist invents a device that allows the holder to stop time for everything but himself and anyone/anything he's touching. I want that device! I just don't have enough time in the day to do everything I want.
2. I don't really even think about it.
3. I think it's lame. I've even heard it taken so far as he wasn't born in the U.S., but in Kenya. He's the president. Accept it and get behind him. I didn't vote for him, but now that he's got the job, he's got my support.
4. Um... I think Kevin Costner is pretty over rated. With the exception of Silverado, he's acted exactly the same in everything I've ever seen him in.
Q1) Air Force 1. I just want Harrison Ford to be the president.
Q2) I think I'm subconsciously cautious. I always check for the closest exit, and never have my tray table down unless I need it (so I can tuck my head between my legs in case we start to go down.) But I don't consider seat assignment for anything other than comfort.
Q3) I don't see how having dual-citizenship would in anyway change the way Obama would govern. I think that if a person is born in the US and is a citizen, they have all the patriotism and nationalism they need to be president.
Q4) Overrated: Harry Potter/JK Rowling. Those books aren't actually well-written. Also, 24.
1- The semi-autobiographical novel "If I was king of the world" by yours truly.
2- Never thought about it. Its statistically safer than driving, so what's to worry about.
3- As far as I know, he's never not been a US citizen or done anything to jeopardize that citizenship. If he's been an American all his life, to the point of sacrificing (or at least giving up) another countries citizenship, then I see no issue. And no, I didn't vote for him.
4- I think all politicians are overrated. I think every professional athlete except for NFL linemen are overpaid, hence overrated. I don't understand why there are so many people who like Keanu Reeves, he's awful. And while I'm at it, let's say... the Beatles, Elvis, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, JFK, the Yankees, the Patriots, Al Gore, and the Middle Ages in general.
OK, my (pedantic) answers are posted at the link.
1. The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Not so much for the Vogon's destroying Earth, but it'd be a great adventure.
2. I wear leather soled shoes natural fabrics and glasses instead of contacts, but that's more for comfort than anything else. Besides, while it's true that most passengers survive the crash is true, what isn't mentioned is that most crash related deaths occur as a result of post-crash fire and smoke inhalation. Personally, I'd rather die in the crash.
3. It's a pathetic last-ditch effort to deny the results of the election by a group of wingnuts. As to the dual citizenship? That's a tough one. If there's no law that specifically excludes dual citizenship, there should be, for the reasons that Ford mentioned.
4. Kim Kardashian and her family. As much as it pains me to say it, even Paris Hilton is more substantial simply because she knows what she is.
1. Don't know why, but the first thing to pop into my mind was "The Wizard of Oz."
2. I like to think I have certain rituals, which I won't tell, and I also try not to think about it too much. Just get in and go.
3. Well, he was born in the U.S., so that automatically makes him a citizen. If his dual citizenship has expired, then I see no problem.
4. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Yes, they are attractive, but so are a lot of other people in the world. I'm sick of the entire Hollywood scene and how actors have become so important in the world.
1.Strange Brew. It's true to me anyway...But can't think of a cooler one.
2. I am usually giggling about Strange Brew on planes so no worries.
3. I don't give a rip. Sounds like a lame attempt made by lame-os.
4. Martha Stewart. And I have to give a rebuttal and say Greg is a wussy for saying the Beatles are overrated.
Q1 - 180 Degrees: Starship Troopers (the book, not the movie). Military runs the government and we get to kill giant bugs. Sweet!
Q2 - Airline Safety: I've figured out the way Death works. He just needs a body when time is due. So before flying I always sneak one out of the local college's anatomy class and take it with me. That way, if something happens, I can sneak out of the wreckage and Death won't be any the wiser. But just in case I also conduct a satanic ritual involving the sacrifice of 5 skunks, 3 rabbits, and an elephant.
Q3 - Citizenship: Sounds silly to me. Always love to hear about how useful my tax dollars are being used.
Q4 - Overrated: Keanu Reeves. That anybody refers to him as an actor, even a bad one, puts his overratedness way over the top.
Rather than post here, I used my own blog. :)
Q1 - 180 Degrees: The Bible
Q2 - Airline Safety: I’m all about the extreme! If I am going down in a plane I’m basically gonna put my hands in the air and scream at the top of my lungs until I have to use the doggy bag. Going down in a plane sounds freakin awesome, and If I die I got that whole life after death experience to enjoy. So basically the metric report should be more like: “in the event of a plane crash you have a 100% chance of something awesome happening to you” I think they should use that for marketing.
Q3 - Citizenship: I heard he’s black too!!!
Q4 - Overrated: Well Athletes do one thing…play sports. Musicians do one thing…play music, both of them usually love what they get to do. Politicians are mostly trapped in a web of lies and live a fabrication which basically is a life of hell and should deserve some compensation. Actors do all of the above for the right price. Non of them deserve more than $200,000/year…all of them are overrated.
