Four For Friday

Q1 - Airport: When you pick someone up at the airport, do you park in short-term parking and meet them inside the airport, or do you do the drive-by until you can pick them up from the passenger pick-up area outside of baggage claim?

Q2 - Foreign Affairs: If you found yourself in a foreign country, would you rather speak the language or have a pocket full of the local currency?

Q3 - Thievery: Sans money, if you could steal any one thing and not get caught, what would you take and what would you do with it?

Q4 - Delivery: If you could have one thing delivered to your home on a consistent basis that just isn't available for delivery, what would you have delivered?

Q1 - It depends on what arrangements have been made, but generally speaking I'd say I park in short-term parking and meet them inside.

Q2 - I'd rather speak the language, know what's going on around me instead of feeling lost in a sense.

Q3 - I'll have to think about this one. I can't come up with anything, for the only things I would really want that I can't buy are things I can't buy - time, past time, future time, etc.

Q4 - Mexican food! (I know, in some places it's available, but not here and I'm jonesing!!!) Nowadays, almost anything is available for delivery from somewhere.......(although I suppose I could have some shipped from Texas on dry ice)

Q1: Some airports have a cell phone lot where you can wait until the person lands, claims their baggage, and then calls you on your cell phone. That's usually my MO. Now, if I really can't wait to see the person, I'll park and go inside to wait.

Q2: Speak the language, so I could freely pursue my options. I suppose I could find someone to translate for me (and pay them with the money), but I think it would be a whole lot easier to get the money if I knew the language.

Q3: I wouldn't steal even if I knew I wouldn't be caught.

Q4: Pizza from just about any hole-in-the-wall pizza joint in Chicago. Short of that, groceries would be nice.

1- I park in the cell phone lots and wait for the person to call me from the curb. Barring that, I'll drive the loop repeatedly.

2- Language all the way. If you flash money for help, people will just take your money; if you can actually speak with them, they are more likely to respect you for caring about their culture.

3- Um... a big diamond or something that I could sell for a lot of money?

4- Well, I think groceries are now available by delivery from some places for a pretty steep price, so I'd take groceries with no delivery charge.

1. I use the short-term parking. Why deal with the hassle of driving around and around until they come outside? Plus, I like to greet the person I'm picking up, in a relaxed manner.

2. I'd love to be able to speak the language of the foreign country I am visiting, but alas, it would take a while to learn all those languages. Guess I'll just have to settle with a pocket full of phrases, or a fellow traveler who knows the local tongue.

3. A Porche. I'd drive it!

4. Single men? Single men who drive Porches? Uh, wait...I mean fresh organic produce from a farm - available through a CSA, which can be expensive, but supports local agriculture and farmers.

Q1 - Airport: I'm a parker.

Q2 - Foreign Affairs: Ooh, wow. Well, let's say I found myself on Chronos. I think I'd be better off being able to speak Klingonese. Qa'Plah! On the other hand, if I found myself in Ireland I think I'd take the pocketful of euros.

Q3 - Thievery: Money not being allowed, I'll work on the assumption that I am also not allowed to steal with the intent of selling my trophy. That being the case, I think I'd go for a house. Then I'd sell my current house and move in. Booyah!

Q4 - Delivery: First thing that came to my mind was groceries (even though, as Greg pointed out, that has actually been available in most markets for quite some time) -- but that's what everybody else is saying. So I'm gonna say... hmmmm... gold bars? Nah, hardly realistic. I'll go with auto maintenance. Either that or Klingon battle uniforms complete with the head pieces. Qa'Plah!

Q1- I use the park and wait, and wait for a phone call from the person I am picking up and then meet them at the curb. I don't think I have ever gone inside to get someone from the airport ever.

Q2- I would definitely rather know the language. That way I could have a reason for beating up someone if I "think" they are talking trash about me. And, with a pocket full of the local currency and not knowing the language, you are a prime candidate for getting ripped off.

Q3- Hmmm, tough one. I immediately think of a house, but it seems like it would be a tough thing to steal since you can't necessarily take it anywhere. So, my answer is a million dollars, or a Nissan GTR. With a million dollars, I could buy a Nissan GTR and still have some pocket change to get the things I need.

Q4- Wow, great questions. Like others, I would say groceries. But, second thoughts bring me to home delivery clothing. I never really feel like going shopping at a mall or store for clothes, but hate to buy them online without trying them on first. Some rich people and famous people have personal assistants that go do their shopping for them. Example, Will-I-Am from the Blackeyed Peas has an assistant that buys him shoes/clothes and then has them try them and to give the thumbs up or down. I could be happy with that.
