Four For Friday

Q1 - Sniff & Smell: With so many choices in the shampoo, laundry detergent, deodorant, and soap isles/sections of the grocery store, do you sniff or smell items before buying them, or do you base your purchasing decisions entirely off the name of scent as printed on the packaging?

Q2 - Waiting in Line: A friend recently chose to camp out overnight for a shot at being one of the first patrons at a new In-N-Out Burger near his home in Utah. What store or restaurant opening, sporting event, speech, etc. would you deem worthy enough to camp out overnight for?

Q3 - Purchase: What's the most recent item you purchased online?

Q4 - Place: If I told you that a recent CNN online headline proclaimed "Right-wing activists storm TV station over 'bias,'" in which city and state would you guess this took place? Related: If you saw this same headline and learned -- by clicking through and reading the opening paragraph of the story -- that the report was out of New Delhi, India, would you feel mislead by CNN?

Q1 - I buy what Janet tells me to buy. She goes by name and experience entirely.

Q2 - I wouldn't camp-out overnight for much; maybe for front row tickets to a Jimmy Buffett concert, maybe James Taylor. I would get to the opening of a White Castle pretty early if they would build one here in FL.

Q3 - I haven't bought anything on-line for a while, but the last thing was a woodworking book.

Q4 - You seem to be under the impression that I don't feel misled by the media on a daily basis.

Q1 - Sniff & Smell: I can't stand scented stuff, so the only scented item I buy specifically for the scent is deodorant. I originally smelled it when trying out a new brand, but since that time have not and just trust that if I buy the one labeled with the same scent, it will be the same.

Q2 - Waiting in Line: I can't think of anything I'd camp out for. If I were to ever do that, it would be for the fun of hanging out with my friends rather than to get whatever it is we're in line for. Although, I might wait in line to be one of the first to take a trip into space or to another planet.

Q3 - Purchase: Umm... I think it was computer parts for my last custom computer build. I've been shopping GPS units and camcorders though, and plan on purchasing those online in the near future.

Q4 - Place: I might have thought it was a Southern state, but I don't think I would have felt mislead. I'd probably have just felt dumb for assuming it was in the states.

1. I usually do sniff the shampoos.

2. Off hand, I cannot think of anything that I would camp out or even wait in long, long, lines for.

3. My last on line purchase was a book from mazon

4. No

Q1 - Sniff & Smell: I'm a total sniffer and have been for years (since back in the day when cracking open a seal for sniffing and smelling wasn't acceptable.

Q2 - Waiting in Line: I would wait in line for just about anything I was really determined to be first for. In high school, when Burger King came to my town, I was the first paying customer, and I've experienced a few other firsts as well. Like others have said though, the experience is what it's all about, and if a good friend was doing what my friend in Utah did at In-N-Out Burger, I woulda done the same just for the experience.

Q3 - Purchase: A new set of sheets.

Q4 - Place: When I read the headline, I thought it was Virginia, Ohio, or South Carolina or Alabama. When I clicked in and saw it was from India, I felt significantly mislead by CNN and their headline writer. Fact is, if it had read "Right-wing activists storm India TV station over 'bias'" I would not have opened it.

A1) Sniff and Smell: I only purchase the no- dyes, perfumes, additives, enzymes, or preservatives detergent!

A2) Waiting in Line: A presidential speech or protest that I was committed to or perhaps a really special (and I mean special - 80% off) sale at REI or similar retail store.

A3) Recent Online Purchase: A case study for my students! I know, boring...

A4) Place: I generally feel misled by the media as it is - what would make this any different?

1. Sniff and smell for SURE! I'm a bit neurotic about the way things smell...

2. There are quite a few concerts I'd camp out for if I knew it could guarantee me a fantastic seat: Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Sting, Robert Plant...to name a few. Other than that, I can wait.

3. Recent online purchase: Disneyland Annual Passport.

4. That headline sounds totally overstated anyway, so I would have tried to find out or skipped it altogether.
