Four For Friday - Test Taster Edition
Q1 - Haircut: When do you make an appointment for your next haircut... a day or two beforehand, before you leave the barbershop or salon, or never because walk-ins are always welcome where you get a haircut?
Q2 - Purchases: Do you believe where you buy something is just as important as what you buy?
Q3 - Tasting: If you could be a test taster of anything, what would it be?
Q4 - Black Box: In the fallout of Toyota's automotive recall, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is considering requiring black box data recorders for all new vehicles sold in the United States. Advocates of the idea say the black boxes, which are linked to the deployment of airbags, are able to note information like the speed of your car, whether you were applying the brakes, and other facts that can be downloaded and analyzed. Opponents say the measure is a violation of our privacy, and that black boxes would like be used for more than just accident analysis and investigation. What do you think?

1) appointment??? you get appointments from "stylists" man, LOL... Just kidding - I generally hit a decent barber "chain", which you can call ahead(same day) and get on a list, or jsut show up and wait... they have free internets and lots of cool magazines, so it's fun regardless!
2)I dont know if it's AS important as what you buy, but it certainly comes into consideration - kind of depends on the product under consideration. Say, a sweater by a "know designer" (lets say... uh, Polo) I'd probably jsut check around a little, and maybe buy it on sale at MAcy's vs. full (over)price at Nordstrom. A TV though - I'm going to go with quality name brand, and good consumer services - so I'd be much more apt to buy from say Best Buy, vs. Walmart for sure...
3) I'd love to say coffee.... but I know a taster of GOOD, Micro and craft beers would really, really suit me...
4) you know darn well that "the man" would want to start collecting black box data to use against you!!! in court, battleing a ticket maybe? or under consideration for accident claims? Yikes... no thanks!!!

1. I usually try to call a week in advance.
2. Yes. I try to shop locally when possible. If i have to shop a major retailer I try my best to patronize the ones who's policies are ones I support ie community giving, partner benefits, inclusiveness, etc.
3. coffee
4. Bad idea, and WAY too Big Brother-like. It won't take long before the information is used for other purposes. As it is, a poor credit score can get you disqualified for a job. A black box record showing speeding, jackrabbit starts and extreme braking could be used the same way to identify someone who would presumably be 'reckless' on the job.
1. I make my next appointment before I leave the salon - they take 15% off for prebooking.
2. Where is as important as what - I don't do traffic, parking garages, rude salespeople, crowds, or Walmart.
3. chocolate. I love coffee too but I don't want coffee that doesn't taste good and I've never had chocolate that tasted bad.
4. I don't think I'd be able to afford the insurance if there were a record of how often I drive over the speed limit. If the black box could get me good citizen discounts for reporting how often I let people merge or avoid blocking intersections or driveways that might be nice.
I just posted mine :) http://dreams.midheaven.org/2010/04/09/four-for-friday-test-taster-edition/
