Four For Friday for July 23

Sandwiches.jpgQ1 - Checkout: When you're making your way to the checkout lanes, does the person working the cash register have any impact on your decision of which lane you choose?

Q2 - Sandwiches: Do you prefer yours cut in half or served whole? What about hamburgers or chicken sandwiches?

Q3 - Facebook: As of this week, 500 million people were actively using Facebook to "stay connected with their friends and the people around them." How has Facebook changed or impacted your life?

Q4 - Tweet: If you could send President Obama a Twitter message that's guaranteed to be personally read and responded to, what would send him (remember, tweets need to be 140 characters or less)?

1. Absolutely - I actually check each of the cashiers out - not how many groceries the customer in front of me has, but how "with it" the cashier looks.
2. Cut in half, but I went to a military type boarding school and this may be a remnant of the psychosis imposed upon us...
3. Renewed closeness with friends all over the world; easier to learn and learn and learn.
4. "Please, find your center of gravity again."

Posted by: Amy Tobin at July 23, 2010 5:41 AM

1. No, I cant say that I ever looked at the cashier, but now that you have brought it up I will probably check them out before they check me out. I always look for the shortest line and the people in front of me who look like they have it together.

2. Def cut in half!! I don't know why but food is always better when cut into pieces....like apples. Also I like to look at all the yummy stuff in the sandwich and then if I am full and I can pass the other half (minus teeth marks) to someone else or wrap it up and take it home.

3. I can not say that I am one of those people who could not live without facebook....I talk to most people who are closest to me on a regular basis. I can say that I can gotten in touch with old friends and living so far from my family I am able to post all my pictures and everything to keep everyone updated so that makes it easier to keep people updated without having to invest time into a million people. Sounds selfish I know! But there are those people who you see at church or at the store who you say hello to but nothing further then that, not like your besties...you know? So it is way to remain involved with people who your don't invest a lot of face time with.

4. (assuming that he would tell the truth) What, if anything have you lied to the American people about?

Posted by: Ruthy at July 23, 2010 6:34 AM

1. Definitely. I pretty much know who is unfriendly or a dumbass at my local Grocery Ranch and won't go through their lanes unless there's no other choice.

2. Cut in half--diagonally. It's a presentation thing. Not so much for burgers or tenderloins unless they're really oversized though.

3. It's made it easier to reconnect with old friends and keep in touch. Not an easy thing to do when you're a third shift worker in a first shift world.

4. Try to find that guy who impressed me so much that I braved the cold and rain to attend your campaign rally.

Posted by: mike at July 23, 2010 7:37 AM

1. Um, yes. If they look like they are currently having issues ringing up their current customers, I bail. If they all had no customers, it wouldnt make a difference to me. I am not judging by their looks, age, or race. I am purely judging on their skills as a cashier.
2. Sandwiches, cut in half please, preferably at a diagonal. Burgers and Chicken sandwiches, no, I want them all as one large entity.
3. Honestly it only helps me stay connected with those I dont care about. If I really care about you we are able to have some way to communicate other then Facebook. I can go weeks without facebook and I am okay, as well as I dont set my status to something like... "I'm BaaaAAAaaack!" like so many of the addicts do.
4. Since becoming Pres. what do you wish you could go back in time and have another crack at?
4.

Posted by: Rachelle at July 23, 2010 7:46 AM

1. Most definitely. Judging has never been more fun or critical. I'm not sure what my requirements are in choosing one cashier over another, but I do scope it out.

2. I like it the same as I did when I was a kid, a diagonal cut from corner to corner for sandwiches, but I just eat my cheeseburger and chicken sandwiches in 1 piece. I only cut them in half if they are too large to handle.

3. It's a great way to see how people are doing, how much weight they've gained, and what they are up to without actually having to talk with them. I also use it to share photos and information with my family easily and effectively with having to call them or email them individually.

4. Can you give me a Bachelors Degree without me actually going to school?

Q1- Shopping for me is all about efficiency (grocery chains deliberately make shopping inefficient by putting so many of the essential items at the back of the store in hopes that you will buy more as you go find what you actually need) and I make a judgment call based purely on the route and cashier I think will get me out the store the fastest.

Q2- If I am making the sandwich myself, I never cut it in half. Sandwich chains more often than not cut your sandwiches in half, but I prefer to eat mine (sandwich, hamburger, chicken sandwiches) whole.

Q3- Facebook has helped me to streamline my communication to more people at a time, especially those who you wouldn't want to spend a ridiculous amount of time on the phone with. Beyond that, it has little impact on my day to day life.

Q4- What does it feel like to spend other people's money constantly?

Posted by: Jason at July 23, 2010 8:04 AM

Q1 - Most definitely. I know the fastest register people at Target, Home Depot and Dan's now. Who tries to chat, who is a sloth-like bagger, etc.

Q2 - Whole! I'm a man! (actually, just too lazy to cut them in half)

Q3 - The only way it's changed my life is that I get people asking constantly: "Why aren't you on facebook?!"

Q4 - Are you worried about how distant the 2 sides of the country are getting? It seems like they are reaching extremes of opposite views.

Posted by: Josh at July 23, 2010 8:08 AM

Q1 - Of course. I don't mind waiting an extra few minutes if she's hot.

Q2 - Sandwiches cut in half make the meal more enjoyable for me and my tiny little troll hands.

Q3 - I'm now able to stay more in touch with my immediately family without increasing the phone calls. Win - win. And I'm still wondering why the hell Josh isn't on Facebook!

Q4 - Slash and burn Delay style!

Posted by: Tyson at July 23, 2010 9:32 AM

1- For sure! It's usually to break the tie between two lines that are the same length, which one looks to be moving faster and I'll say it, age discrimination sometimes too. If they are older they are more likely to chat up their customers and take longer to ring it up. Some days that's what I like, other days not so much.

2- I keep them whole unless they are big, then in half. Though for my grilled cheese, I like to rip it up to dip it in my tomato soup :)

3- I like that it's easy to stay in touch, I've found people I haven't spoken to in years and I can see all their pics. It's fun.

4- Is it what you expected?

Posted by: Meadow at July 23, 2010 9:50 AM

Q1 - Checkout: Depends on my mood. If I'm in no hurry, I'll look for the hottie.

Q2 - Sandwiches: Whole, of course. Eat your sandwich like a man, man! I also prefer it to smell like Old Spice.

Q3 - Facebook: Facebook has made me realize just how much I can't stand other people, and I just wanna punch everybody in the face sometimes. KAPOW!

Q4 - Tweet: Hey. Wazzup? Ima gonna let you finish, BUT I'D MAKE THE GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER! 2012. End of the world... FOR YOU!

Posted by: Stu 4 Prez at July 23, 2010 1:35 PM

Q1- If person at checkout is completely crazy I'll leave. If not - doesn't really impact me much.

Q2 - Eat my sandwich as a whole, it seems bigger that way. :)

Q3 - FB is all right. Nice to keep in touch with those people who you don't regularly call up. Nice to see pics from people sometimes. I'm not obsessed with it. Gets annoying if u use it to much.

Q4 - If you could only focus on one problem with the world/US, what would it be?

Posted by: Dmitry at July 26, 2010 3:53 PM

1. Yes, I want the one who seems most efficient or entertaining depending on how much time I have to spare.

2. Halves for sandwiches makes it more enjoyable the same way albums and cassettes with Side A and B made music better to listen to with a little break in the middle. As for burgers - they must be devoured in their entirety

3. It definitely keeps me in touch with people from all different walks of lives that I've come in contact with over the years as well as shed light on the quiet person's innerself. Admittedly, it's also given the loudmouth a noose to hang themselves when their sandcastle soapbox washes away.

4. @O-bama U need 2 take the US in2 the y3k & replace politicians w/ a website where u can directly tap in2 the peoples voice, holla ;)-

::: Checkout: When youre making your way to the checkout lanes, does the person working the cash register have any impact on your decision of which lane you choose? ::: Yes sometimes, I try to look if shes fast or not especially when I am in a hurry and the lines are long on almost any other lanes.

::: Sandwiches: Do you prefer yours cut in half or served whole? What about hamburgers or chicken sandwiches? ::: I prefer hamburgers to be served whole while for sandwiches, I am fine when it is cut in half.

::: Facebook: As of this week, 500 million people were actively using Facebook to stay connected with their friends and the people around them. How has Facebook changed or impacted your life? ::: It wasted my time particularly the games before. But am happy that it has been a means to reconnect with old friends way back in college, high school and even in grade school. Also, FB was the means of communication to make our recent high school reunion a reality at last.

::: Tweet: If you could send President Obama a Twitter message thats guaranteed to be personally read and responded to, what would send him (remember, tweets need to be 140 characters or less)? ::: I wish you could help our president in terms of giving more job opportunities and more investments into our country.

1. Sometimes. If I go to the same store I kind of get a vibe from some of the checkers. I know which ones are pleasant and which ones are unfocused. But if the line is short, I'll go to any checker.

2. Cut in half on the diagonal. I don't cut hamburgers.

3. It hasn't really impacted or changed my life. I only log on about once a week. I don't spend a lot of time on FB anyway.

4. Not a Tweeter, but...Mr. President, what are you doing to help people find jobs and work again, so they can feed their families?

Posted by: Vera at August 2, 2010 4:11 PM

1. No, I look at the people in line and quantity of their items

2. In half, diagonal, and I cut burgers in half, too! You have to anymore; they are huge with stuff falling out everywhere. (hey, overweight America)

3. Now that I'm an entrepreneur and need to be prospecting new business all the time, I feel the need to connect with people regularly, so I am on Facebook every day. Before owning my business, I could take it or leave it.

4. What prevents you from making faster progress on your goals?

Posted by: Jen at August 3, 2010 5:08 AM

Checkout: Up until very recently, when I noticed that I had a bias, I would choose the checkout lane according to the cashier I thought I stood the best chance of connecting with. Now, I simply hop into the shortest lane, unless of course I'm Whole Foods in Laguna Beach, where Arsenio -- if he's working -- always gets to experience my smiling face (Arsenio is one wicked cashier).

Sandwiches: It really depends. If it's a 'pig-out' sandwich (something out of the ordinary), I prefer to eat it whole, but if it's a regular old Ham & Cheese or Tuna sandwich, cutting it in half is preferred. PB&J however... whole, always. Burgers, always whole (so much in fact that I'm often dismayed when a burger is served sliced in half, and one of these days I worry that I might actually send one back).

Facebook: Well, I co-authored the recently published "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Facebook" with Joe Kraynak, so I'd say Facebook has had a major impact on my life :-)

Tweet: "Stop with the politics and worrying about your legacy. Do what needs to be done, period."

Q1: You bet I do. I shop at the same store every week, so I know which cashiers are with it and friendly, and which ones are... sluggish misanthropes.

Q2: Sandwiches have to be cut in half (for me - I don't care what you do with yours), but on the diagonal. I do not know why this is. I leave burgers in one piece unless they're just too large, in which case I'll cut it in half. Chicken sandwiches: one piece.

Q3: I do not use Facebook. Don't judge me! ;-)

Q4: Could u POSSIBLY cut some expenses now so we have a HOPE of retaining ownership of our nation? I voted for you, but... unimpressed so far.

Posted by: Kathleen Jaffe at August 13, 2010 5:34 AM

Q1 -

Yes, it does. I shop with coupons at a store which doubles coupons, and buy the items during their buy-one-get-one-free sales. I usually get $300 worth of food and pay less than $5 for it. There are some cashiers which growl and rave and rant and slam the food around denting cans, if they see a stack of coupons. I avoid these cashiers. They should not be working in customer service careers.

Q2 -

Depends on the sandwich. SubWay's foot longs and Amatos Italians need to be cut in half. Grilled cheese are cut in quarters, and the rest are not usually cut.

The vegetarian so there are no hamburger or chicken sandwiches in my life.

Q3 -

I joined FB in April 2007. Today I am listed as the #1 most active user in the state of Maine, and am in the top 10 list of the most active users world wide. And it also says I am one of the top 3,000 most read profiles in the world. 500 million people and I'm in the top 10? I find that interesting.

Q4 -

People with Autism deserve health care too. If EVERYBODY is REQUIRED to get health care than the OPTION to get health care should be there for EVERY BODY!
