Four For Friday for Aug 20
Q1 - Stop and Count: How many cosmetics or personal care products do you use over the course of an average day?
Q2 - Deeds: What percentage of good deeds do you feel you do out of generosity versus the ones you do out of the avoidance of guilt?
Q3 - Find Me: Facebook launched a location-based check-in tool this week called Places. Similar to Foursquare, Facebook Places allows you to share where you are, find out where your friends are and discover new places. Would you want your friends and others on Facebook to know where you are?
Q4 - Happiness: A couple of years ago I asked "How do you define happiness?" Mixing it up a bit, what do you believe is the secret to your happiness?

A1: That is a hard question for us women, and I dont wear make-up during the summer, so with that said...Shampoo, conditioner, fash wash, bodywash, deoderant, sunscreen, tooth paste and mouthwash and if I choose to blow my hair out then I add at least 3 more products. So I use 12 products on a low maintance day. For the days that I wear make-up...or my "high maintance" days you can add 10-15 more products....this is ridiculous. I sound ridiculous haha.
A2: I would say that majority of my good deeds are because I want to do them. I try not to let others emotions affect my decisions which has been hard. But I am a blue personality (a people pleaser) so I have to watch myself. The other day I had a homeless lady outside a market ask me for cash and I told her I didn't have any, which was true, but in the back of my head I was thinking that I would pick her up some fruit and bread or something....well she later comes into the store and finds me and asks me for $$, which annoyed I said I did not have any, then she said "well you have a debit card right?" I said of course, I was not paying with monopoly money. then she asked if I would buy her cheese and crackers. this made me feel like I had to buy her something rather then feeling like I was doing it because I chose to do it. I said I would see what I could do. A few minuets later she tracks me down and put about 15.00 worth of cheese and crackers in my cart and followed me around the entire store. This annoyed me even more, so I can say that this was a time I did not want to help this lady only because I felt like I had to versus I wanted to. It was a good lesson...I bought her the cheese and crackers, and the store manager did not charge me for the cheese. So I had a good deed done to me while I was doing it for this crazy lady.
A3: Sure, why not I have nothing to hide.
A4: For me happiness = peace. Peace comes within. All good things come from God. He has infinite abundance of everything. Everything good in my life...family, friends, and my health are gifts from him. Also I think that it is interesting that peace is the only feeling that can not be duplicated...you can duplicate love with lust, confidence with pride, happiness with instant gratification....but peace comes from God and God only.
1: Just the basic four on average: shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and toothpaste.
2: Most of the time my good deeds are out of generosity. I occasionally do some charity work that has been long-standing, and at times it's for avoidance of guilt (regular tasks I've been assigned), but I generally do things because I know it helps others and it feels good to do that.
3: I have no interest in that feature. I kind of miss the pre-cell phone days where you could go anywhere without a tether. This new Facebook feature is just another tether.
4: Living in the day. I try, each day, to just see the experience for what it is, good and bad, and to not really dwell on mistakes of the past, or the challenges of the future. I think you need to create your own happiness, and that, to me, is easiest when I focus on the good things that occur each day around me. There really is so much to be happy about on any given day, even with all the crap that life tosses in the mix.
Q1 - Stop and Count: Not counting soap, 5.
Q2 - Deeds: 90% generosity, 10% guilt
Q3 - Find Me: Depends on the circumstances. Not really into ignoring the people right in front of me to stare at my phone and "check-in" someplace virtually, it feels distant, cold and nonhuman.
Q4 - Happiness: Optimism and a good night's sleep.
1) Cosmetics and personal care...I'm goign the candid route here and showing it all baby: hmm...soap, shampoo, conditioner, (bubbles if I'm feeling luxurious that day), shaving cream, prescription lotion, deoderant, toothpaste, foot cream, scar cream, hair product...I think that concludes my morning...That should put me in for about 11...
2)Is it contradictory to publicly here announce what percentage of good deeds you do without expecting recognition? I'll simply offer the quote, "Nice guys finish last", courtesy of Stanley Ibcuss here.
3)Sure...let everyone know where I am! I'm so interesting! Follow me people! Follow me! (sarcasm noted?)
4) The secret to my hapiness is having the bravery to admitting to other what really makes you happy, despite what the world might otherwise ask you to do.

Q1) No idea on regular days, but on Sundays: NONE:) That's my rule... complete slacker on Sundays.
Q2)Since I was raised Catholic I sometimes think EVERY action I take is out of guilt... In all seriousness, I try to always operate in a collaborative - "giving" spirit in work. I have to draw the line with some annoying, overbearing customers, and I would DEFINITELY not have bought those cheese & crackers like Ruth did.
Q3)I absolutely do not want anyone to know where I am every second - why do they care anyway unless they want to break into my home or use my hottub on the deck??
Q4)I gave up aiming for "Happiness" a long time ago - because it appears to me to be either an unrealistic goal or so fleeting that it isn't worth working towards; I work towards contentment... if I can be 'happy' with where my life is, flaws, problems and all, I am content.

1. Maybe 8 or 9 when factoring in shaving cream, mouthwash and hand soap.
2. I very rarely do anything out of avoiding a sense of guilt.
3. Nothing against my friends but Heck No! besides the fact that it advertises to people that your residence is empty and fair game for burglars, I'm with Christian in that I miss the old days when it wasn't expected of you to be available to friends, work, and telemarketers every hour of every day.
4. Toughie, but I'd say it's at least partially dependent on eliminating jealousies and such. Being content with what you have and liking what you do goes a long way to establishing happiness.
q1: soap, shampoo, tooth paste, .... I'd say less than 10.
q2: Hmmm....60/40.
q3: I'm not a big fan of facebook because of all their privacy issues. Places didn't help me feel any better about those issues. Of course they assumed everyone want to share that info so you have to manually change your privacy settings if you don't want to broadcast that to a wide net.
q4: appreciating what you have, knowing who you are, laughing frequently, and getting some R&R.
1. About 8. I was thinking about this the other day. If I'm only using 8 things in my daily routine, why do I have a cabinet full of other junk that never gets used? I should just pare down and stick with what I use, it would give me more space too.
2. Who knows, at least I'm doing a good deed, right?
3. No thanks. I don't like too much personal info out there on the ol' internet.
4. Knowing I am loved, and being loving to others.
Q1 - Stop and Count: I'm pretty sure it's eight... Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Facial Soap, Deodorant, Toothpaste, Hand Soap, and Dental Floss.
Q2 - Deeds:Ninety percent out of generosity, 10 percent out of guilt.
Q3 - Find Me: In certain situations -- since I get to control when the information is shared -- sure, why not. For example, if I were hanging out at Starbucks just reading the paper or something like that, I'd be totally open to broadcasting that info, and because I get to say who sees it, there's no harm. Perhaps someone's near by and it'd be more to share a conversation than read the paper.
Q4 - Happiness: The secret to my happiness can be found in the fact that all there is in life is what happens and what I choose to believe about it.
1. STOP & COUNT: I probably use much fewer cosmetics & personal care items than other people. I'm a minimalist. I don't even use shaving cream. I *do* use hand & skin lotion frequently, though.
2. DEEDS: Typically, I do good deeds because it's the right thing to do and because I have the time and other resources to do so. From time to time, however, I do feel that I am not doing enough; these feelings seem to coincide with some guilt of various sorts.
3. FIND ME: I won't use the Places app. I do not want people to know where I am - or where I am NOT. I've curtailed greatly this type of posting on facebook.
4. HAPPINESS: What a terrific question. It's a quest, of sorts. One barometer is lack of regrets. Another is new adventures.
Q1 - Stop and Count: Hmm... I guess 5'ish? But by 2013 I'll have an entire crew that does nothing but make me look awesome. Probably bump things up to a few dozen I'm guessing. Hey, I'm kinda like Lincoln. People shudder when they see my true self in public. We don't want to start a war with the Chinese because I'm ugly now do we?
Q2 - Deeds: Zero percent on both counts. I do charitable work solely to improve my public image.
Q3 - Find Me: Will that thing work while I'm on Air Force One?
Q4 - Happiness: Very simple... don't take life seriously. Being too serious about anything just causes undue stress and makes you unhappy. Also, when I think about my plans to take over the world, it makes me happy!
