Average payout by the Federal Victim Compensation Fund to relatives of those killed in the 9/11 terror attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.
$12,000
Amount of money approved by Congress as the death benefit payment to relatives of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
That IS a shame! How do you value life... by a dollar amount?
The victims of 9/11 were in the right "wrong place" at the wrong time. It was their time to die. Fate in it's cruelest definition. Most I believe, died instantly with no thought to their peril. We (The People of The United States of America) are paying for security errors and admitting to that fact with that great sum quoted per victim family.
The men and women of our collective Armed Forces choose their walk (or run for your life situations). The sacrifice they make daily on my/your behalf is much more than any monetary figure I can think of.
I am SAD!

Posted by: Lori at February 10, 2004 3:46 PMThe men and women who defend this country get the scraps from the table. You have congressmen and congresswomen who are making 5-7 times what servicemen do and bitch every time a raise for the military is mentioned. Many bases have base housing that is not fit to live in, built in the 1940s and 1950s. For whatever reason men and women join the military they are required to do their respective jobs in addition to being combat ready and have the courage and dedication to hold themselves to a higher standard of conduct 24 hours a day. This death benefit is disgraceful and is comparable to spitting on fallen soldiers graves. What a sham our government policies are and we are the fools who live in complacentcy
